I loved Pavard in Stuttgart and wished we bought him before Bayern. My only concern is his discipline and character - drunk driving plus public disagreement with managers - both Deschamps in the national team and Jacquet at Lille.

The good thing is he was unhappy with the coaches because they did not play him as CB (which is what we need him for).

And his positioning in defence when he's doesn't have to make tackles? It's not mistakes, he's just bad at defending and relies on tackling to get him out of trouble but he can't do that under a high ball. If he hasn't learned to be defensively disciplined by now I'm not sure he ever will.
What right-back doesn't have to make tackles? Tackling is part of defending.

Would rather we used the Maguire money to sign another midfielder. We have enough cover at CB.

You don’t need a world class player at every position, nor an attacking fullback to be successful. City won trophies with Kyle Walker, and AWB is not below average.
This comparing Walker with AWB needs to stop. Walker is an excellent full back and has been for years. AWB isn't close to the same level.

Well if you ignore everything else I wrote, I'm not surprised you're confused.
No confusion. It just doesn't make sense to say a player is bad defender but a great tackler. Sure his defensive awareness can improve but he isn't running around like a headless chicken. Thankfully, an actual football manager understands his worth.

Of course any defender has to make tackles, but AWB makes lots of last ditch tackles (which he's very good at) in part because he gets caught out of position wise more than he should

We won multiple titles with OShea, Phil Neville etc. sometimes the sum of all parts is better than the individual parts
With all due respect, what's expected of a full back in modern football isn't remotely comparable to what was expected of full backs at that time. Modern fullbacks are expected to contribute far more going forward, whether that's providing the width, tucking in to become an extra progressive midfielder or providing killer passes from the half spaces.

Awb makes so many tackles because he knows he can pull it off successfully. He usually give forwards a bit of space intentionally before sliding in. I'll rather a more proactive style but its his thing.

you mean because he has to bail out his central defenders ?

We need both but CB is definitely priority, who do we have after Varane, Martinez and Lindelof?

It quite literally does make sense. He can tackle but a defender's job involves a lot more involved than that. He's regularly caught out of position, gets sucked inside and loses his man or gets lost under the high ball.

My concern is that he's 25. Can he really improve his awareness and positioning that much? He's surely been told what he's doing wrong thousands of times by now.

The fact that ten Hag hasn't gotten rid of him yet means very little. You can only make so many changes in one window and he's not the main cause for concern but I highly doubt he's anywhere near the first team in 2/3 season's time.

Yeah its kinda ridiculous and I don't have the energy to argue on such an absurd premise.

Is selling players before buying a good strategy from a negotiation point of view, especially when you know there are suitors for your players that are going to come out of the bushes late in the window? Leaves you in a bad negotiating position.

Hopefully we don’t end up paying high for players on their last year like Amrabat and Pavard just because clubs know it’s the priority position we’ll need to fill

Teden Mengi and Will Fish
Seriously?

Neither are anywhere near the quality, but more importantly one is on loan and the other is going out on loan.

It is a good idea when you've issues with FFP and will only buy the players as replacements.

I have a feeling we wont be able to get rid of Henderson and McTominay, which means we wont be buying a backup GK and backup DM. Which is fine, not the end of the world, but we will be fecked everytime Casemiro is unavailable.

If we're selling Fred we'll get a midfielder in.

You do realise that Amrabat hinges on selling Fred & Donny not those two or don't you see him as someone capable of covering

What I really love about the Pavard option is that he would not just fill a hole in the CB depth chart, but also quite possibly provide a much-needed upgrade on RB. Also, he seems the right sort of player for ETHs style - strong on the ball, positionally flexible, tactically astute. Don't know enough about Todibo to judge to what extent he brings the same elements.

Mount , Onana , Hojlund and Pavard is a great transfer window if we can box this off. Makes us far stronger . RB and CB versatility, Keeper who can play out from the back , another player who is creative and can help our transition in the middle of the park and create opportunities, and an Actual striker ( albeit young and mostly potential at this stage ). Bring on the season . I'm excited by all of that
