But still. He’s a starter for the Brazilian national team at least.

Bayern paid less than £30 mill for Mane a year ago. Same age, same contract situation, but better and higher profile. (I guess that Bayern went for Mane while Fulham is the one interested in Fred tells you what you need to know.)

Stop being such a pessimist. Last year we got 6 deals done, 4 transfer (Martinez, Casemiro, Antony and Malacia), a free transfer (Eriksen) and a loan (Dubravka).

A similar strategy this year could see us signing Onana, Min Jae, Rice, Kane, Rabiot (free) and Neymar (loan). I think everyone should stop moaning and put some trust in ETH to get the deals done. Even a more realistic Costa, Timber, Mount, Rabiot and Hojlund would be a good window.

There's no way we're signing Onana, Min Jae, Rice and Kane. That's probably 3 times our budget. Not too sure about Rabiot but Neymar is a hard pass. He doesn't try in France, he wouldn't have a hope in the PL.

I feel like any sale of Fred should be later in the window as there are quite a few players I would rather move on first.

Maybe Fred has expressed a desire to leave and maybe we want confidence on a fee for him before we commit to a price for Mount.

Kim
??
Mount
Rice
Kane
Onana

300m should do it.

Sell Maguire, Henderson, DvB, McT/Fred, Martial, Telles, Bailly, Williams for whatever we can get.

Football is easy.
Go back to football manager

Its basically free with a sell on clause.. I dont even think Utrecht are a good selling club..

A little surprising, but probably didn't do enough.

Wonder how Charlie Savage does.. I thought Iqbal looked better in preseason..

Not counting the last two friendlies, where he wasn't available, in Brazil's last eleven matches, Fred came on as a sub three times, was an unused sub twice, and was a starter six times.
Huh, you're right... I must've blocked those out of my memory. Mental trauma I guess. In more recent competitive matches Tite preferred a 4-2-3-1 with Paquetá and Casemiro in midfield.

I’d say £20m is our starting position and Fulham probably at £10m. We’ll meet somewhere around £15m.

Seems pretty fair to me.

We have Kovar on the books who just won the Czech title with Sparta Prague so we’re not necessarily in a position where we have to use up transfer funds on two keepers.

He has stated his preference to continue his loan next season though.

And if our first-choice goalkeeper gets injured, would you trust us to use Kovar for 3 months ? I certainly wouldn't

Its infuriating that academy players are going for 30m and we cant sell an experienced PL and International player for 20

Would you have trusted Heaton, Dubravka or Butland for 3 months last season? Is Kovar below that level?

If he is then we picked up the 3 mentioned for free or on loan so I’m sure we can find a solution.

What the hell, Liverpool, Chelsea and City be getting 15 million plus for their academy players, we get 1 million...
We got 15m for Garner last summer. This guy probably just isn't very good.

Looks like mctominay is going to survive another season as a united player on the technicality that fred has only one year left on contract
2 out of McT, Fred and DvB were likely to leave with us looking to sign 2 midfielders..

The market is based as much on potential as anything else. £30m on a promising young player who could be worth £70-100m is a gamble. It’s also a player you could use for 10 years.

Fred is 30. Has a game built on energy and work rate which won’t last as long as technical ability. He’s got a year left on his deal. Lots of reasons why he’s cheaper.

It does tbf. Just thought he’d be better. I did like him in pre season.
Agreed, I thought he'd kick on from there, but I think I read in the reserve forum PNE weren't even interested on taking him on loan in Jan when he had a trial.

Hopefully he has a good career in the game.

You wouldn’t know the names of the academy players those teams quietly sell of for a minimal fee. The likes of Jordan Ibe or whoever are the rare exceptions not the rule.

He will probably go too, Fletcher opening up the path for his kids

Every academy can produce players that can transition at their club or elsewhere. All football players literally came from an academy somewhere. Were not better than anyone at that realistically.

Last u21 squad not a single United player whereas city have them in the squad across every position. How could you possibly argue we have a better academy when former players would rather their kids went there?

Having an academy and being able to transition a player from the academy to first team are two entirely different skills for a club imo. The fact that Fletcher is trying to bring his kids over to United at this age is proof of that really.

They can, but do they? From my perspective United are better at producing professionals than most.

Your last two paragraphs are a bit contradictory. I suppose you're arguing they'll get a better technical education elsewhere but at United they'll be have a better chance at turning pro? If so then there's clearly something United do better than most. What's the point in making kids good at football if they end up in careers outside of football?

I’ve no idea, but this process is going to take 3 months through relevant checks (PL) before it’s completed.
It’s not going to be a case of an announcement next week and the Glazers are gone the following week
Yes but financial accounts would likely be analysed on a pro-forma basis until the takeover is technically complete.

I don't think it's like we'd physically need the cash in our accounts post takeover to do business.

Up to €1m. Awesome. Fair play we are outstanding entertainment in the transfer window year after year.
