never believed it tbh it was unlikely the backbone of a title winning defence coming to us and fighting for a spot

Think it was very much on IF Maguire agreed to leave when window opened and we made it clear he would be a starter. Was an ideal opportunity for us to have managed Varane's minutes this season but too late now.

Could have signed for us (for better wages) and then agreed a loan out to the Belgium club...
He probably cares more about his long term career than his current wages. He made the better choice for his career.

I am convinced we could sell the majority of those 9 players - not all 9, I agree with that - and replace them with 3-4 players with a net spend of no more than an additional £50 million which we can afford because we will cust wagecosts quite a lot.

As for our squad - I dont even see a problem as the majority of those players don't even play.

The squad we will have left will be

Onana, Heaton + one of the youngsters

Malacia, Shaw, Lindelof, Varane, Martinez, AWB, Dalot

Bruno, Mount, Casemiro, Eriksen, Mainoo

Greenwood, Rashford, Sancho, Højlund, Garnacho, Antony

Add to that - Amrabat for £30 million, a world-class midfielder, a proven goalscorer and a defender as replacement for Maguire. Tidibo has been mentioned for about £30 million.

That will be an almost complete squad.....

As for "This doesn’t back up your case, it backs up our argument that selling them all for the numbers you’ve quoted is not going to happen" - let us wait until the end of august and see what offers come in

Yeah, you sound convinced. I still think you’re completely delusional if you think we can fund Amrabat, a world-class midfielder, a proven goalscorer and a defender with sales in the next three weeks. You genuinely seem to have no clue how complicated the negotiations for all those required sales and purchases would be. especially in the current market, and especially with the wages our players are on.

That’s what I mean by this isn’t football manager.

£60m for those two would be a great deal for us. McTom can be a decent player for a mid table side, so 30-40m is about right, but honestly Maguire is only going down in value.

When he's out on the pitch, Maguire looks like we've run out of players so we've asked Harry from accounting if he'd like a run-out for funsies. He's the least mobile, least athletic, most gormless looking guy on your local pub side, but somehow wearing a United shirt and earning hundreds of thousands of pounds per week. If someone pays £20m for him they will feel like they've had their trousers pulled down within six months.

£35m for Scott is going rate and £25m for Maguire is overpaying frankly

Would also get both Amrabat and Todibo/Branthwaite for about that amount.

Wouldn't do that tbh unless there was a fee - If he is fit I'd still use him, we shouldn't be using Mctom or Maguire
We'd definitely demand some kind of loan fee for Martial. Why wouldn't you , particularly with Hojlund settling in whereby moving any first team squad striker out means incurring some kind of risk/cost ( regardless of saving on the wages)?

£60m and they can have them really. It’s more important to get Maguire off the books than McTominay personally.

Edit: he's also coming into final contract year (though I think there's an extension option), so a loan fee as small partial-transfer fee makes sense.

Damn it Harry why did you cause us to miss out on the best around in Min-Jae. Just looking at his top percentiles in most areas makes me want to scream. His aerial ability is absolutely unbelievable and Bayern have got one over us.

Let’s just accept 60m and be done with them? We also need to accept anything above 1m for Bailly and anything above 13m for Fred

Yeah totally agree
Yeah, with exception of the 60m cut-off. 55 should be enough to have us sell, even if we're taking into the whole FFP/amortization value question for Maguire. Scott's homegrown academy developed status makes up for the merely 'breaking even' on Maguire's remaining value.

This really would be perfect. United would be really stupid to reject a bid like that, with that money you can buy Amrabat+Todibo and come off so much better.
Reading this, a wave of sinister smiles spread across the faces of United's board, "You underestimate the power of our stupidity."
