With a 30-40M buy back as well he looks to have real talent, just a shame he's behind Shaw and not on the other flank.

He didn’t really catch my attention on tour, but does seem to be highly rated after coming off a good loan, playing 42 games last season.

Buy back to protect us in future makes sense.

Armrabat's people doing the right thing after we gave him the nod and proceeded to stand him in the corner.

It's kinda strange - in theory we could sell players for over £150 million without even weakening our team more than slightly in terms of the squad

Henderson £20 million
Maguire £30 million
Fred £12-15 million
McTominay £30 million
Fernandez £10 million
Pellistri £15 million
Diallo £15 million
Martial £10 million
Hannibal £15 million

Of course we would need a buy back clause for the youngsters - but if we sell these and buy a proven goalscorer and a world-class midfielder - we could fight for the title this season. Of course we wont be able to sell all these players, but the majority of them - we probably could sell.

We’re not getting a proven premier league goal scorer and a world class midfielder for £150m. One or the other.

And if you sell Maguire, Fred, Mctominay and Martial they most definitely all need replacing in our squad.

Wonder how much under £40m they bid.

Well they posted listings for 7 positions on a transfer forum (yes actually), saying their spending limit for each was £20m, and reports are that they didn't want to go beyond £25m for Ward-Prowse, but that seemed to be an issue of valuation. But I'm guessing their bid for McTominay would be in that ballpark, so maybe 25m. I think we can get them to bid above 30, but it'd be surprising if we get 40m from them for a single player.

Didn't they get 45M rejected for Gallagher?

Zion Suzuki, the GK linked to us, got signed by Belgian team STVV on loan + purchase option (can't post tweets yet).

Zion Suzuki soon on the holy grass: athletic goalkeeper prefers STVV to Man Utd

Translation from the article:
"In recent weeks, Suzuki's name has been buzzing around at Stayen. But the goalkeeper was also quoted by transfer specialist Fabrizo Romano at Manchester United, as a double for Onana. In the end, Suzuki chose STVV with conviction, says technical director Andre Pinto: “Zion is an athletic goalkeeper (ed. 1m90 & 91kg) with a lot of growth potential. We are therefore happy to have him on our team and look forward to his further development.”

I think your youngsters' estimations are a bit optimistic, probably influenced by the fees that City/Chelsea keep receiving for their kids but your academies are not on the same level.
When it comes to Henderson/Maguire/Fred/Martial, the main problem is their wages. I'm sure Henderson would get a lot of suitors if he didnt make €500K per month, only top clubs outside of the PL can pay those salaries. Same with Fred. Martial could land a decent fee if he didnt have such huge wages, nobody is paying a fee for a guy who makes €15M a year and is always injured. If you want to get rid of your older deadweigths on big wages you cant be too demanding on the fees.
Also I dont get why you want to get rid of both Fred and McT and not consider a replacement for both of them, while they might not be good enough for a club like yours, you also need depth, especially defensive minded midfielders. If you sell them you need to replace them so the money you'll get cant go towards those 2 players you're mentioning.

I wouldn't contemplate selling Diallo or Hannibal especially at those prices. Amad was very good last season and deserves a chance with the first team and Hannibal has shown some promise.

Even if we kept them for a season and it doesn't work out I think we would make at least 15 million each next season.

I never said proven P.L goalscorer - but yes of course you can sign a goalscorer for £70 million and a world class midfielder for £80 million. We got Casemiro for a lot less than £80 million, Nkunku cost Chelsea a lot less than £70 million.
So of course it could be done.

If we sell Martial and replace him with a proven goalscorer - we sort of have replaced him. Same with Fred and McTominay - as we have already signed Mount and with a new midfielder - we have replaced them.
Maguire - would only cost us £30-35 million to replace - that money we have.

In theory this isn’t football manager

It isn't ? But we can still sell the majority of those players at the prices I quoted.

Not really.

The older and more experienced ones you listed are proving very difficult to shift due to a lack of offers, with high wages seeming to be a significant obstacle.

Meanwhile some of the highly rated younger ones were only acquired relatively recently and at considerable expense so that we have some young talent coming through to help supplement the main squad. Selling them defeats the purpose if we then have to source replacements, who in the current market would likely cost more than we recoup.

It maybe makes sense to sell one or two with buy back clauses if Ten Hag doesn’t think they’ll make it (like we have with Elanga) but there’s no way we’re selling Pellestri and Amad just to fund first team signings.

The bolded would definitely weaken the squad. Regardless of your thoughts on those four players they played not insignificant minutes last season and would need replacing.

  • If Martial goes we would only have one recognized #9 who frankly is an unknown entity at United in the PL; we have players that can fill there but we can't keep relying on out of position players.
  • Maguire I don't rate, but he is still an experienced player at the back, and we'd be left with 3 center halves - yes Shaw is great there too but he's also great at LB and we want him there.
  • Fred and McTominay aren't consistently top level middle of the park players, but they've both contributed to us for the last few years and definitely have a purpose as squad players.

I'm for selling these four as long as we get not-insulting money, and have some form of squad replacement ready.

If we sell these 2 plus McTominay, i really hope we can bring in 2 midfielders.
I think we would be fine even with just one in Amrabat.
Bruno
Mount
Casemiro
Amrabat
Eriksen
Mainoo

6 midfielders for 3 positions is more than adequate. Last season we operated with just 5 and Eriksen was out for a good chunk of the season.

I would just want a very good one who can play deep though if we have funds from selling those. If we have a good amount of money, I am not sure if Amrabat would be good enough.

1. Martial is likely to miss half of the games anyway.
2. I’d rather play someone from the u21 than Maguire. He’s a donkey and doesn’t fit our style at all.
3. If we bring Amrabat that’s an upgrade on McFred and both Mainoo and Gore can fill up and I’d rather give them a chance and couple of games anyway.

plus if we sell all those most likely we will go for another CB/ST anyway till the end of the window.

Getting those three out and buying two deeper midfielders would be a dream. Would bring us closer to mounting a title challenge.

I personally can’t see it until next summer at the very least for another CB & ST unless one pops up in the January window in which I’d hope we would be making at least an attempt for.

I genuinely won’t be surprised if Amrabat is our final signing of the summer (if we can get McTominay & Fred off the wage bill). I think Evans is Maguire’s replacement. Give him the early stages of the cup games. Fill in when he needs too if either Martinez or Varane are unavailable. Having said that, I would like another striker as we are still sort in that area unless Greenwood is going to be given that opportunity if he returns? Which is why I don’t think we will sign another one in this window as got a feeling that the club is going to give Greenwood an opportunity to redeem himself.

Greenwood should be done here, I don't really like to see him in United shirt ever again. But even if he's given second chance he hasn't played for a long long time. Can't see him getting a game time this year.

Otherwise yes - even with Amrabat in I'd like what we did on the market. Selling Maguire, McFred, Martial and Hendo is just gravy on top.

I don’t want Greenwood back either but like I said, I think the club want to give him the chance to redeem himself hence why we haven’t really been strongly linked with any other striker during this window other than Højlund. Kolo-Muani was just a fallback option if we didn’t get Højlund and looks like he is heading to PSG anyways.

Yeah, truth is - if we're looking at more experienced striker, the value might be even bigger this Summer, compared to what we paid for Hojlund. Kolo-Muani seems like he was the backup option and the better forwards are either not for sale,(Kane) unlikely to come(Mbappe) or ridiculously overpriced(Osimhen).

Still if we could raise some money from sales, there are some like Jonathan David that might be a good option, but I don't think we have been linked lately with a new name after we got Hojlund.

We haven’t signed Amrabat yet, we haven’t really signed Evans and no matter how much we criticise Maguire current Evans is a step down, and Hojlund isn’t replacing Martial he’s filling an existing gap in the squad.

1 - This is true but it still stands to reason I’d want a second 9 in the squad. And Martial on his day can be very good. I’m not keen to keep him by any means, but I do want a main 9 and a secondary 9 rather than relying on Rashford/Sancho/Fernandes.

2 - Maguire may be a donkey that doesn’t fit but we don’t really have any youth CBs ready for first team football even as 4th/5th choice.

3 - I would definitely be fine with McFred being replaced by Mount, Amrabet and Mainoo.

I personally think we would have got one of Kane or Oshimen (not sure about Mbappe as clearly he’s had his heart set on Real Madrid) if we had been sold to new owners already as no doubt about it, they would have wanted a massive marquee signing in their first window to really appease the fans and gain their trust/backing very early in their tenure. Then again just like Greenwood, that’s another endless story, that will divide opinion’s, for another day! :D

Jonathan David is a good shout but like we have both said, we haven’t been strongly linked with any other striker other than Højlund and even more so lately after we finally signed Højlund.
