Ah, no wonder the Griezmann-Saúl transfer hit a snag.

Now that Griezmann's involved in the negotiations, the transfer will be more difficult to complete, particularly with the salary differences.

EDIT: Updated Tweet to include more info

EDIT 2: 2nd Tweet

Barca really are a piece of work. Griezmann is the biggest of bellends, but I hope he mugs them.

This is for those who check on the feed but don't enter the thread:

This is basically a nice, summed-up version of the 3 Tweets that Loïc Tanzi sent out.

A fee of around £18m will be required to prise him away from Atletico.

Both deals (Trips/Varane) are all but complete with announcements expected towards the end of next week.

  • Varane has decided he wants to join Manchester United.
  • Deal could be done in the coming days.
  • Minimum of €50 million for Madrid to let him leave.
  • United have offered him €12 million a year compared to Real Madrid's €8 million.
  • Madrid won't accept less, they'd rather risk keeping him and losing him for free next year. Meanwhile try to convince him to sign a new deal during the season.

That would be our purported £150 mil net spend all but reached (https://www.espn.com/soccer/soccer-...on-in-signingswill-have-to-prioritise-sources). I'd be happy with that as a window and I suppose we'd have to decide whether to cash in on Pogba (and Lingard and a couple of other players on the fringes) in case we want to improve central midfield. Then again if you're Pogba and you see the mess that Madrid and Barcelona are in and the quality of additions this summer then perhaps you're not going to be too hasty to jump ship.

Whether you're Ole in or Ole out in terms of being the manager to win us silverware you'd have to be impressed with the squad he's put together.

Giddy stuff. Makes you hope we can really quickly get these over the line, then spend the rest of the summer offloading where we need to (Dalot, Lingard, Matic, maybe James etc.) to try and free up a little more money for an actual midfielder. No point improving the side with 3 great additions but still ending up with McFredorism.

Sancho, Tripper, Varane and a young CDM would be incredible.

Bringing in winners from others clubs will always strengthen us.
Always? :smirk:
Seriously though, great experience with Varane and Trippier showed real leadership and character throughout the Euros.

1 of De Gea and Henderson will have to go too. Wouldn't surprise me if Tuanzebe left as well.

If we sold him for 15m or 10m I'm sure there is a young LB at the club that could sit on the bench, Telles won't play except maybe cup games.
The purpose of freeing up a squad place shouldn't be to let any youth play. It should be to allow a 1st team contender to play. Which current young players so you think can contend with Shaw or Telles for a 1st team place at left-back?

'Funds raised by sales'. Good one
Angelino+Harrison+Sancho sell-on clause generate £40m or so. Then more players like Ilic, Nmecha, Herrera and Braaf could follow so that's another £35-40m from sales.

The point is they don't actually need to 'raise funds' and if they do for the books they can always sponsor themselves some more.

Tuanzebe will probably go on loan I reckon. Long term he takes Bailly/Jones’ spot as the perennially injured CB who has talent but never comes together.

The ‘keeper situation is interesting. The signing of Heaton does open the door to one of them going. De Gea would make more sense to leave as at this point he’s the weaker keeper but he’s on so much money that it doesn’t seem possible. On the other hand, Henderson could command a nice fee (30m or so?) but he’s the better ‘keeper at this moment in time.
