Neves is playing in a deeply defensive and horrible little team though, I wonder if playing at a more attacking side he'd be better? I just don't know, I'm not convinced by him. There's something underwhelming about his overall game. But he is still young.

I think he is the right profile of midfielder we could do with but this season he hasn't looked all that good. At £35m, I'd take a punt on Neves though. A different type of midfielder but I have the similar thoughts about Bissouma at £30m.
Bissouma is a better high presser while Neves is much better passer and has a fecking bomb of a shot.
This season Neves has dropped of a cliff, but that's more to do with Nuno playing shit football and nobody actually performing at their expected levels. He'd do quite well here but his defensive attributes are a bit suspicious.

On the contrary his limitations like lack of mobility would be further exposed in more attacking and expansive team .

Neves is average. People got manipulated by a few 25-yard screamers.

Think that's to do with his mobility more than anything as he's quite slow. From when I've seen him, he does like to engage in tackles and interceptions. He's by no means a defensive rock but I think he does his bit.

It is a weird one — do Wolves have a lot of positive talented players who are/were being shackled by Nuno’s tactics (like Jota), or are we just overthinking it?

I never knew Jota was as good as he has been for Liverpool, maybe that's my own ignorance, but I never really saw it. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a few in that side who will benefit playing in more forward thinking sides. Neto for one has shown enough for them to make me think he'll be fantastic somewhere else.

Being better than Fred is the least I expect to be fair
I know, I know, but if you add in Fabinho and Fernandinho as the "gold standard" he stacks up pretty well also. For less that half the quoted price for Rice, I think it's a better deal. Would allow us to really spend on a CB/Sancho type signing.

Fair enough, I'm happy with our window if we sign either and it's a pretty spoilt argument, I just have a preference for Grealish I guess. His ball retention matched with positive play is something I haven't seen in a long time.

Ooh yeah, Grealish is a class, I would be happy with him joining as well

Same, he was also in and out of the side too. He looked a good player but nothing special in my opinion. In my limited viewing, I think Neto has looked better at Wolves than Jota did.

Next week it will be announced that Zidane doesn´t continue. Allegri will take his place

Smart. Allegri might be a bit boring, but he has some level of pedigree about him. Too many big clubs taking too many risks at the moment on managerial appointments which just aren't working.

What stands out to me from those numbers is how underwhelming Rice appears to be.
Maybe I'm not reading this right but what is he better than Fred at doing going by that link?

Apart from the 5 goals, they seem to be a much of a muchness except Neves' passing stats are worse.
Neves' medium and long passing stats are better, while Fred has better numbers for short passing. Neves is much more progressive with his passing. He's also playing a conservative, tired Wolves team so there might be room for improvement. I'm not entirely convinced by Rice or Neves, though.

He's better than Fred in most the defensive actions section as the poster was saying he's average.

His passing is more progressive in distance as well, but I'm not really full throttle with signing Neves. Just I think £35m seems like a very good deal.

@Harry Harries agreed, he is not a £70m+ player by a long way for me.

You all complain about matic with no pace. The forum would break with this guy. He makes matic look like Usain Bolt

Oh sorry. Highlighting he wasn't average is fair enough. 35m is a decent price but agree I don't think he's what we need.

Schneiderlin with a better shot on him. Bit harsh, but I just don't think he'd work here. I don't see it with him, even at that price.
That's talking like you've never seen this guy play. Schneiderlin was a 3 meter pass the ball to the nearest player available. Neves has a long range passing that we currently lack that deep in midfield.

Talent is there but he’s been very underwhelming in the Wolves side this year

I do literally say I know I'm being harsh. It's the more the fact I think he'd come in and disappoint people much like Morgan did. Of course Neves is a better passer.

I'd definitely take him for £35m

Weird story that. Reporting that he's leaving and the mooted price, without any talk of which clubs are interested/likely to sign him. Almost as though Wolves are looking for a buyer, but I find that hard to believe.

35mil is a very good price for pretty much any Champions League or even Europa League level club.

If you had an ndidi or someone of that ilk behind him he’d replace McT. But I’m not convinced by his mobility or lack of pace. I think someone hit on it earlier, Portuguese Darron Gibson

It doesn't have to go the same way as Schneidrlin, I think Neves could work for us in the right set up. Whether Ole finds the right formula is another things. But I guess that goes for every single player out there doesn't it? Technically he is a very cultured footballer, top passer and very intelligent player, I can't say the same for our current options there.

Wouldn't it be the same balance with Sancho, he is also competent in RW & LW

LW:
Rashford
(Sancho)
(Pogba)

CAM:
Fernandes
(Pogba)

RW:
Sancho
(Greenwood)
(Amad)

CF:
Cavani
(Greenwood)
(Rashford)
OP of this logic, @MyOnlySolskjaer, forgot to tell us, Greenwood played from the right this season because Martial, Rashford and James can't really. Greenwood is really a 2nd striker who can come in from the left or right. So can play RW, LW or CF; or, at least, he did in U21s.Sancho can play RW, LW, AM and adds better balance than Grealish.

I'd say Ramos at the moment, as he's actually out of contract at the end of June, whereas Varane still has a few years left.

The question was actually to the Madrid fan but cheers for your thoughts on the matter

Neto. Get him bought.

"United have held talks in the past few weeks but the deal now looks done and agreed"

Regardless if it's a FREE or a back up keeper, it's great to see Murtough and co getting deals done early. Promising signs.

Slate me all you want but you know this would have taken weeks a few summers ago.
