Sure he didn't mean it... Sounds like when Joleon Lescott didn't mean it

Barcelona refused to pay 12 million net (after tax) which he is going to get at Juventus according to Dimarzio.

12 m a year after tax (22.5 before tax) it means 430k euros per week before tax.

You have to admit, Raiola is an outstanding agent. What a deal he has done for his client, if this is true.

So somebody is being a tad greedy?

Would you sign for a team offering you €180k a week less? Bare in mind the teams are not that different in terms of stature? With the one offering a bigger wage slightly less so, while both teams have two of the best players ever?

It's a sensible decision, he's an established name regardless of his age, someone like Odegard moving to Real at 16 for €80k a week was greed (understandable as you never know what will happen in football) but not De Ligt.

He will need to be a success there because that is where he will be for a long time on those wages.

He will be a success there, he looks to be a generational talent, and going to a hugely prestigious club won't alter peoples opinions of him, it's not like he's gone to PSG? I'd be agreeing with you if he did, but choosing Juve over Barca when Barca wouldn't even come close to offering the shame wage is an entirely logical decision.

If a job offered you £X a year and another offered £X - 20% for the same position would you really take the lower paid job?

Have Juventus got a sugar daddy. Where's all the money coming from. They hadn't got the money to buy Pogba last week, without selling a few players. Crazy media.
Reports are we want £150m for Pogba. De Ligt is only going for around €75m.

While Juve will and have been spending money ever since Pogba left, no way can 430k a week before tax be true for de Ligt.

I know that it is common in Italy to list the net wages, but €12m AFTER taxes surely can’t be true for a 19 year old??

Not to mention the ridiculous wages Ramsey is purported to be getting as well as Ronaldo. They're only #11 in the football money league so unless the other players are getting peanuts in comparison, the figures aren't stacking up.

I suspect it's €12m gross and some Spanish sources have either mistakenly or deliberately turned it into net in their reporting.

City are prepared to exceed the £60m they paid Leicester for Riyad Mahrez last summer and could go beyond the £62.6m they are set to spend on Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodri. But they do have a ceiling, already making it clear to Leicester that they won’t go near the £80m mark. That could still see United have to pay closer to £70m or more to deliver him for Solskjaer.

It's €12m net plus bonus according to DiMarzio, €15m net (including bonus) according to Romeo Agresti. These are the two best sources for Juve news.

I’m sure left of a midfield three is his favourite position - but he can play from the right of the same midfield three or in a double pivot (either side) as a #8. Looking at it slightly differently, he can play as both the most advanced or least advanced #8 in the 4-3-3. He can’t play as the #6 or #10. Or to clarify, I’m sure he would love to be in the #10 position when his team is defending to absolve him of as much work and discipline as possible, but in possession he likes the play in front of him and is far less comfortable taking the ball with his back to goal in high, congested central areas.

Kante, specifically, is not the reason why he has shown he can play in a double pivot for France. He does need that kind of player next to him though - a defensively diligent holder who thrives on the physical aspects of defending, a destructive #6 in the mould of a Casemiro, Fernandinho, Rice, Ndidi, etc.

I actually had high hopes for Timothy Fosu-Mensah in that kind of role. He is so quick across the ground he could maybe be trained to be a ball winning midfielder.

Be interesting to see if De Ligt would still have chosen Juve had we not missed out on champions league.

We would have been able to rival their big money offer then, sadly we ran out of steam when it really mattered about.

In the past missing out on CL hasn't mattered as much, most likely because in general the club didn't seem to be in such a mess, but this time it has cost us big time.

Agree, it seems to be more significant this time around. We don't even have a top manager to convince players to join. Add to the fact that our 'star player' has said he wants to leave and we are in a bad situation.

If one was more prestigious than the other or i felt i could achieve more i would. Juve do seem to be intent on winning the cl though.

Personally if i was de ligt i would have tried to force a move to city. They'd have paid great wages and he would have the perfect coach.

I never seen it really, not for the holding role. ‘Ball-winning’ midfielder, maybe, but next to an anchoring player to allow him to press and get stuck in.
