That is a bit harsh - Meirelles played a lot of Seasons in Portugal but was never spectacular in any way. I must admit I haven't seen enough of Fernandes to make a judgment, but his numbers are out of this world. Meirelles never did anything to raise any eyebrows. He was a good, solid player..and that was it.
In response to the pogba story surely if he goes Adidas just promote Jesse Lingard as their face for advertising?

He plays attacking midfielder or as a more attacking player in midfield 2. If he gets half the games Lingard plays will score and assist more. He is lethal with shots on goal and has got good accuracy with long rangers.
Fernandes would be a very good addition to our midfield if Pogba goes. But we need an Ndombele type player also.

Any team who wants to play good football cannot do that with a player who can't control a ball, run with it and pass it. He'll do well at Inter with his usual 10 in 10 then go missing for the next 10/15 games.
