Are IDK trolls even allowed in this thread now?
I'd say he has more weight behind him than 90% of the "press" right now.

The guy doesn't just bleat random things and hope they stick, so we shall see.

Well we might as well post IndyKaila then
I don't know how good his source at United is, but he definitely has one. He was bang on with the Daniel James transfer and was even correct about the time we'd officially announce the transfer as completed.

He is the one who is credible. He doesn't spout shite as often as the others and he has gotten things right, even the timings of the announcements.

That Simon bloke has proven to have gotten more right than most of the journos posted here yet because he doesn't have a blue tick or work for a media outlet people lose their minds. Amazing.

How many times is Lukaku going to agree to join Inter? It's been every other day since the season ended.

Are Inter like that jealous partner that keeps having to ask "do you still fancy me?"

One thing that may play to Ole's advantage, not that I think this is in design,is the fact that bringing in potential British talents does give him and the club some breathing space from the fans and media. They'll be a more benefit of the doubt situation if things go a tad Topsy turvy.

Good point and unfortunately I do think we will go a tad topsy turvy. If they were our only buys I don't see us finishing top 4 but not seeing Young and one of Jones or Smalling will bring a smile back to my face at least. My big worry is goals and creativity.

I don't get your point?

"Paying more for Van Dijk than we did for Rio" her der her?

If VVD was moving this season, he would be more than both fees.

Exactly VVD now would be 100m plus. It's not Leicesters fault we dont have the ability to take a punt on players like Maguire when at Hull and are stuck with mediocre overpaid CBs. If we do really want him we pay up or go elsewhere, pretty simple.

What a depressing mess this transfer window and this thread is becoming. All of the signing that could have made the difference next season now seem out of reach. We are potentially looking at a window of James, Longstaff, MaGuire and AWB. I'd feel physically sick at the direction of this great club if that transpires to be true.

Never heard of him, is he Brazilian at least?

:lol::lol:
its going to happen isnt it?.. The gift that keeps on giving for our fiercest rivals. Signing mid-table players for vastly inflated prices; we cant look further than the end of our nose when it comes to identifying targets.

25mil for a very promising young midfielder is "vastly inflated"?

25m for a central midfielder who has played 9 Premier League matches? Who has been injured - still is - since March?

I’d say so, yeah.

It could be far worse, like having to watch Ashley Young or Smalling/Jones start every game.

I'm the complete opposite. For the first time in a while we seem to have a plan when it comes to making transfers. Signing talented young footballers is exactly what the club should be doing. Our previous strategy of signing established players was a disaster and got us into this mess in the first place. Solksjaer said it would take a few seasons to rebuild and the players we're targeting are a sign of that.

It's the Fifa/football manager mentality that has gripped so many people these days.

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest of suggesting Maguire is only marginally better than Smalling is pretty much based on one being rated 82 and the other being rated 81 on Fifa.

I struggle to believe that many people have watched both players an equal amount and have then also watched AWB for the same as well as all the other players being discussed.

Basically, most people just talk for the sake of being in the discussion.

City paid £30m for a 19 year old Brazilian who never played in Europe let alone the Premier League.

Sometimes you have to take the risk on players who are seen to be high potential talents capable of playing for top clubs.

You have to consider all costs involved - transfer + wages. I prefer paying a bit more and have lower wages than doing a Sanchez.... No transfer fee and extremely high wage... Which triggered a revolt

Yeah the Longstaff one and Dan James are the kind of deals that make sense to me. Paying sub 30m prices for players with potential is a good idea in my book. Paying 80m for a half decent defender smacks of bad planning. If we buy Maguire for that much, are we saying we couldn't get Dayot Upemecano or Dan-Axel Zagadou for less than 80m? Because of those guys are 100% better than Maguire and 5 years younger.

My thoughts exactly. Also are we hiding behind this buy young British talent because we cant actually get the top class talent we want due to us being pretty shit. I would rather this honesty than some high moralistic approach we are going by now.

The reddit ITK has a twitter account... not just a personal account, but a reddit username /u/ account? feck me.

And why is that shit being posted here ?

So just because we've signed poorly in the past we should lump faith in entirely unproven players that no other big club have any interest in because 'it might work'?

I’m sure Liverpool had a plan in 2011 when they ‘went British’ And signed the likes of Downing, Charlie Adam, Andy Carroll etc all in one summer, that is exactly how I see this British players experiment going.

If he was called Longstaffio and was 25 million from Real Betis, many of the people who are objecting would have their dicks out over this transfer.

Weird mentality that it isn’t possible to pick up quality young players from lower mid table clubs.

Pretty much this. Suddenly so many people on the forum are trained accountants trying to analyse our transfer balance sheets and what not.

Debatable - Bailey, Fred, Lukaku, Martial, Darmian, Lindeloff were all young players we targetted.
Only difference being, they were not english.

This is a fair point. But this is NOT the time to start worrying about our wage bills. Yes, we overspent on Sanchez, Young's Jones, and particularly Martial's contracts. But we're still fine financially. I'd much rather we simply focus on buying quality rather than worrying about wage costs. If we're buying Maguire because his wages would be fairly low, that's an absolute Mike Dean of a decision.

Not this again

The most moronic post of the day goes to.. are you Sam Allardyce/Niel Warnock by any chance?

25m for a player entirely unproven, who will be one of out '5 or 6' signings when we have a squad screaming out for ready made quality. Suggesting longstaff is a good signing is blind faith and nothing more.

Feck me our fanbase is generally stupid.

British players, unless we pay way over the top on wages, will have good resale value..
There is a quota system and most premier league clubs have money.. Do we even know what the changes will be once the Brexit stuff is done?

If they are improving us in the short term, I am all for it.. Unless we are absolute mugs, we should have the option of making our money back if it doesnt work out for a player or two. (Not 50/90m players, but they are a more known entity)
