These type of stories make me laugh.
We haven't bid 25m yet, but are going too
The papers know before we make this bid, it's going to be rejected.
So why are we going to make this bid anyway?

Nothing has actually happened yet, but the papers know both sides of the outcome!

Whilst I agree that it will likely be paper nonsense, it doesn't make it wrong. I want to be clear that I don't believe they know but one could know this and it isn't that ludicrous to even guess at. Just two of the ways this is possible could be:

If someone had a legitimate source in the club they could have said we are going in with a 25 million bid and whilst we expect this to be rejected, it opens negotiations.

Perfectly plausible. It also isn't difficult to just make up. You only need to have the idea we are interested in the player and you can easily create this story based on a plausible set of circumstances.

Regarding why we would make this bid, it's fairly simple. Just like buying a house, for example. I know many people who have put an offer in that they expect to be rejected but it sets a foundation for negotiations at a lower point. You don't go in high, you go in low and look to meet in the middle. If you go in with 25 there's a chance you can meet at 50 but if you go in with 35, you may end up meeting at 60. If you are to barter for anything, be it a holiday souvenir or a car, would you not go in as low as possible and look to work up from there?

If we were to end up with 35 million plus 15 in addons, that's much better than just going in with 50 for the sake of getting it done earlier to appease fans.

This is good. By taking away good players from the teams below us we're eliminating our opponents one by one.

They have a Limitless amount of oil money and will probably outspend everyone again.
They also continue to buy and develop good players. They can sell Jesus (maybe) and Sane at a profit this year, which will give them the funds to spend big again. We literally struggle to get 10M for players we need to sell.

James Robson is the biggest guesser out there. Has he ever got anything right?

No. He works for the Standard. His stuff is just mildy entertaining nonsense for bored London commuters. He won't have the faintest idea what's going on at Manchester United.

Nothing is ever straight forward with us.

Always seem to take an age in these things whilst other clubs just don't muck about and get the deal done pronto.

This is purely because you are fixated on our deals.

Other clubs probably have tweets and extended periods just we don't really take notice cause we don't care.

Or they are a much better team and have bought much better players. Yes they have unlimited money whilst we dont but the millions spent by both clubs is huge but their signings are 8/10 hit rate whilst ours is 2/10.

Yeah, we’re probably the only club in the league who haven’t got the excuse that we can’t compete with City financially. Clubs like Liverpool have had to be smarter and maybe sell before they buy, and they are embarrassing us.

Another season of holding onto Darmian then...

This is why we never sell him. He literally only needs to rock up to a few games as a backup backup and the money offered becomes worth just holding on to him.

Literally offering chubby change in today's world

So they sold Pulisic, and bought Hazard and Brandt. Good business.

So this is either United saving face as Sancho doesn't want to move here for Europa league / turmoil or its posturing to try force Dortmund to lower their price (2 recent signings for the wings in Hazard and Brandt might mean they need to balance the books).

Otherwise i hope we're not balking at the price given his age and potential. 80 million isn't that much for a player of his potential abilities.

Brandt isn't a winger anymore

Particularly since we've barely spent anything compared to Manchester City over the last several years. Sancho is the type of player who can take us to the next level, and 80m should be nothing for a club of our wealth and stature.

Doesn't say who these alternative targets are, but if the article is true then there's nothing in the Joao Felix stuff as he'll cost more than the fee touted for Sancho and is just as inexperienced.

Great bit of business, Bayern will still win the league but Brandt has been impressive this season, for the price it's a shame we weren't interested.

Headline and article paint different pictures. Article says Dortmund have refused to negotiate.

They already balanced the books with the Pulisic deal, both purchases covered by his fee.

Fair points! Still hopefully it is a negotiation stance rather than not being interested. I think Dortmund are always open to a good transfer deal and surely we have some good standing with them since Kagawa and Mhiki deals.

Its an odd one, headline says we're not interested, the text says Dortmund aren't interested in selling then it mentions that they would only talk if a fee of £80 million is offered. All angles covered no matter the outcome and Ogden can say I told you so no matter what happens!

Makes even less sense when you know he's only going to cost more next season.

Is the asking price from Dortmund a non negotianable 80 million or just they refused to even consider selling?

£80m is just a number plucked out of the air, Odgen doesn't know shit. Sancho would cost £100m easily.

I go even 135M. Dortmund dont want to sell and second they will ask dembele money. 80M is pure fantasy

£80 million? Isn't that about the same we paid for Lukaku?
That's what I thought. Would 100% be worth it. Although like the fella above has pointed out, I wouldn't trust Ogden whatsoever.

If he was truly available for £80m, a lot of clubs would be interested. Pulisic cost £60m from the same club and he's not had a season close to what Sancho just put out.

Journalists either know shite all or we are leaking stuff in preparation for another bad window and doing the at least we tried bit. Obviously super early but I doubt we pay big for any top player.

We should pay 20million quid for James?
Then you’d all be here slagging him off but paying over the odds.

The idea that United can only concencrate on one signing at a time is amusing though.

United will negotiate like any fecking normal club and the price rightfully won’t be more than 14m quid. There’s no god damn rush except in the witless minds of some of our fans.
You only have to look at how Woody signed Fellaini to know he can't be trusted, all it will take is another club to come into the mix and Woody will pee he's pants and probably pay £30m.

I know we can do multiple deals but this one is getting more publicity then any other and if this ain't in the bag already then expect to pay £20m+.

Think it's more a case of the bolded. I think we've tried bringing in/enquiring about the likes of De Ligt, Sancho, Felix etc and been told where to go because we're in such a sorry state at the moment, on and off the pitch. These youngsters probably won't want to put their faith in a club like ours to not only hone their current abilities but also further them, with how we are.
