How on earth has Darmian still a valid contract with you? It has been expiring for a decade now.

I don't see why that isn't fair. You paid 12m, he's in his last year of his contract and he's barely played for you. His valuation has greatly depreciated at United.

Agree take it and move on

We only have to pay Inter €5m to take him away? How is this not done yet?

This is where Woodward is foolish, if he sold him last year he would have got a higher fee.

I said it in another thread. We've seen it all before year after year, we go into the summer saying we'll get rid of the deadwood and by September they're still here eating up the wage bill cos we hold out for daft fees.

People will blame Ole when we see Young, Smalling and Jones playing for us next year. However, people need to realise its the club's failure to free up the wage bill that's stopping us from getting better players.

"Has made his critics eat their words. Fast, good touch, eye for goal and versatile – he offers so much to United’s attack and is only likely to get better."
This is quote from ES about why we must keep Lingard. They lost all credentials for me:)

Because he is still young and still learning..

Well the have been full of shite for a while now so that's hardly surprising.

He might have the highest ceiling when it comes to his footy ability but he is hardly setting the right example when it comes to attitude or anything off the pitch really. Just like Tuchel won't give it to Neymar despite him being their best technical player. What message does it send if we give a player who is agitating for a move every summer (through his agent or otherwise) the captaincy?
It’s not a great one sure, but it still might be better than giving it to a guy who’d struggle to get games pretty far down the table. The captain has to be able to perform to the highest standard at least. Young is an embarrassing captain, it has to be said.

I agree, we've had two good opportunities to sell him for good money and we've let it pass us by.

Whoever has been involved in value estimation of our players is at fault ultimately. I don't know who that is at the club.

We could have got 10mil for him last summer which would have been good business but we declined.

So Woody then.

Do we actually know that? Feel free to link me with details i'm curious as I always assumed a club of our size would have someone dedicated to working out valuations of players at the club and ones we're interested in rather than having just one guy do everything from football deals to club marketing.

That's an odd one, hasn't even played for Everton right?
They haven't been able to get a work permit as he hasn't played enough for Nigeria. He was injured for the World Cup last year which was a blow.

Another season of holding onto Darmian then...

Yep we could have had double that last year which was apparently not enough for United to sell him. I'd say he will be staying, taking a decent wage and leaving for free next year.

I can actually just see Valencia and Herrera going.

At the time there would have been loads of complaints about how we don't get decent money when we sell our players and plenty, including yourself, said that the €20M asking price was fine.

They need to get real, they should just offer 15mil plus 5mil in add ons. Mind you if we sold him last year we probably would have had no problems with the asking fee.

Once it was clear we couldn't get what we wanted we should have lowered the asking price. So £10mil plus add ons would have been good business.

Weirdly, sounds like it is Newcastle trying to sell him rather than us trying to buy him. I know he just signed a contract but maybe its a financial balancing of books thing.

I wonder how much he'd cost. Anything below 25/30 and I'd be ok with it.

Starting to get worried that these are our main targets though rather than supplementary squad options.

I still don't get why the down playing of bright young english players. I'm certain if they were foreign, people would be gushing over them.

Why can't Lingard get any better? Vardy was 28 when he started in the Prem and only scored 5 Goals - A season later 24 goals.

Really don't understand how so many United fans dislike so many of their own players?!

I'd love to have seen this site if we had players like O'Shea and Wes Brown playing under Moyes, Van Gaal and Mourinho - they'd be ushered out the door!

I’d post the Sean Bean meme but would probably get in trouble  He’s like the same players as Mctominay. What a pointless transfer imo

Except he isn't, he is more like Garner than McTom
