"...Manchester United were previously interested in Alderweireld when Jose Mourinho was their manager, but under his successor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are looking for a back-up centre-back rather than the first-choice stopper the 30 year-old would be..."
I hope the club's assessment of Alderweireld changes after Smalling gets his ankles twisted into knots by Messi. We already have the perfect back-up centre-back in Smalling. We need a centre-back of Alderweireld's quality.

Can't believe the club are apparently happy to go into next season with Chris Smalling as first choice CB

How can we turn away from Alderweireld at 25 million when we have kept and handed contracts to players like Jones and Rojo. fecking baffling.

True, but i think Alderweireld would have been on bigger wages something like 200k if we signed him.

We'd go into meltdown if one day we were linked with Hazard, Mbappe, Pogba and Rabiot and the next day we were linked with Jovic and Pjanic.

Rojo and Jones are probably on that, or at least close to that if you combine the wages. They are never fit anyway so what are we even losing? We are also losing Darmian and Valencia from the wage bill.

I am a bit worried about this Pogba stuff. We need to show some real ambition in the transfer market to help convince him to stay.

I like him. I think I started a thread on before he signed a new contract with WH, and have kept an eye on him for a while. But he offers very little going forward. Too little for Man Utd.

Look like someone who could have become a world class defender.
He doesn't have to be spectacular on the ball. That's why we have 2 other mids. Hes there to win the ball and move it on quickly. Which he did here for example:

Lots of ball recovering and even attacking the space when it's there.

True, but we have to put our foot down at some point. No time to start like the present I guess.

Respect your opinion, but dont agree.

I’m not expecting him to be Paul Scholes, but players like Carrick and Keane (hugely underrated in this area) had great passing ability. That helped us move the ball quickly forward. When you look back our buildup from defence into final third was so much better under Ferguson. Even in his worst years. And the passing ability of the defenders and midfielders were crucial, in my opinion.

Matic and even Herrera is not at their level, and in my opinion it hurts our football a bit. And Rice is not as good as these two either, in terms of passing.

Pjanic is the best midfielder in that list . Unless you think goals are more important for a midfielder than controlling the game.

Depends on what you want from your midfielder doesn't it. If you want a deeper midfielder or a goal scoring one.

But that wasn't the point I made was it. Caf would meltdown if we went from Pogba to Pjanic.

I wouldn't. I rate Pjanic very highly. If we could get him + someone like Neves with the money we get for Pogba I'd be fine with that. Added bonus: less drama.

Who is it?

I'm sure there are tons of players who are 10x better than Herrera who we're keen on, doesn't mean for one second that they're gettable targets. Just nonsense reporting as usual

Pogba is a superstar, Madrid are going to have to splash £150m+ if they want him.

Won't hold it against him if he leaves but for that money we could get a new midfield. Mind you, I'd rather sell him to the less cnutish Spanish side of Barcelona. Just so they can own Madrid for another decade.

City are gonna be looking pretty thin in midfield if Gundogan goes. Maybe they'll actually give Foden a chance now?

Pjanjc has a grand total of 2 goal and 3 assist in the CL favorites team. If we didn't get at least two world superstars in attack it'll just be a massive downgrade on Paul.

I'd be pissed because I think Pjanic would be perfect next to Pogba, not to replace him.

I'd imagine Modric's stats are similar the past few seasons. They're different type of players, both have incredible strengths.

Sounds like cock teasing rubbish. If they had a strong rumour, why wouldn't they publish it?

Also agree with above poster - why replace Herrera if we can keep him and buy another midfielder? If PSG are only offering a 3 year contract, what are we waiting for? He's 29 FFS and a 1st team player. A 3 year contract would be perfect!

If we're not careful, we'll go into next season with Matic, McTominay and Fred in midfield.
