It said FB, not RB. I don’t understand why more is not said of LB. We have one in the whole squad.
Think it's going to be a RB who can play at LB if needed because we are more lacking at RB right now as only we have a 19 year old and a 32 year old winger turned FB as opposed to a previously injury prone LB.
I agree that we need an oldish RB who can come in and be first choice and a backup LB but I don't think that's happening
Edit : we buy a first choice RB with Young and Dalot acting as backup, with both able to cover both LB & RB

This sounds more like a Don Balon story!

It's that time of the year when everybody pretends Madrid can buy who they want.
When they report that Madrid are backing away because of fees or if another board member isn't too sure about that signing it'll be Wimbledon time
They then sign cheaper alternatives or flat out say they have confidence in Benzema / Kroos which means Its time for The Open golf to tee off

I read here that players like De Light, Sancho, Koulibaly are our top priorities, and of course, NO ONE knows for sure what's gonna happen, which was the case for our last signings? Baily, Matic, Darmian, Basti, Zlatan, etc.. Were those players our first or second choice and what other names were also mentioned as choices before we signed them. I am asking just to try to figure out what will happen this summer. I am really excited about it and to see if the players are gonna trust in our new manager and come here instead of going to other big clubs.

Not sure about Darmian and Bailly, but pretty sure Matic, Schweinsteiger and Zlatan were players the managers trusted as they had played for them before.
Think Darmian and Bailly were our effort to unearth a gem

I don't know why we extended YoungsY contract if we knew we wanted a RB. We also need competition for Shaw.

I think he's different to Smalling, their strengths and weaknesses are ideally matched, but it took Lindelof a year to just settle here and he was already an international, is Dias? I just think he'd be an expensive and inexperienced risk, I mean he's the same age as our own Axel.

Speed is important to have in at least one CB which would be missing in a partnerrship with Lindelof, and he's also flat footed, that mobility issue can be exploited in the PL.

We should be going for de Ligt not funding them by buying Umtiti, Barca rarely make transfer mistakes, if they are getting rid of Umtiti chances are there's a good reason.

I just can't see Varane leaving now Zidane is back, especially not to come to a club that isn't even in the hunt right now.

While i dont agree with alot of this, i respect that its just differing views.

To answer the question, Ruben Dias is an international.

What i think has to be considered with Umtiti is that Barca like Madrid, enjoy a new toy. He has been hit woth injuries. If that is not an ongoing issue then i would put the rumors of a transfer down to Barca being reluctant to move on from Pique and wanting a new toy (De Ligt). Although, i do agree that De Ligt should be number one target for us. My original point is that options are out there that would improve our defence.

If we buy a RB this summer then Young would be a good cover for Shaw, not ideal as I personally prefer a left footed player to give us better width but we have higher priorities imo

He was a LB before he was a RB. He pretty much mostly played there last season. Dalot can also play on the left. That's the one piece of businesses we've made that makes sense.

Think he'd be a great addition, Matic isn't getting any younger and we're potentially losing Herrera. He's recently signed a six year contract though, hasn't he? Which would mean he'd cost an insane amount.

I was thinking the same - I think he would cost around £60mil I doubt he's on big money at west ham

Thanks, is Dias starting for the Portuguese senior team now then?

The thing with Umtiti is that there is a pattern setting in of him missing chunks of time each season, and to me Barca buying de Ligt to upgrade and then selling us an injury prone player for around the same price is why we are lagging behind the Spanish giants. Also on Skriniar, it looks like he's signing a new deal with Inter, so in truth we'd be down to Umtiti or Dias from the options we've discussed IMO.

Who’s that third guy mentioned in the CB targets? Joachim Andersen. Is he any good?

Would not want. Especially at the prices banded about. He's very good at getting the ball, be it through interceptions or tackling, but when he actually has it he's very basic. Just a more refined and slightly upgraded Eric Dier, IMO.
Except Dier is years older. In the right hands Rice will get better. Dier has regressed if anything.

At the age Rice is, you expect to see some glimpses of enterprising play by now. I just don't see it with him, at all.

If we were getting him as a CB, then I'd think he could be a good pick up but as we all know, we need someone with experience back there now as opposed to another project.

I Agree, I would prefer a DM who can pass.

Don't most people think he will be a CB? Think a lot of WHU fans think that is where he will end up. You would think which ever position he plays, playing with better players will help him.

We need more creativity in the middle, Rice would not help very much in that regard.

I agree. However we can only add creativity if we upgrade Matic. As long as we have a mediocre DM as a starter then we need another player doing his defensive work for him, as Herrera does.

Not seen enough of Rice to know if he is an upgrade on Matic or not, but getting a better, more mobile DM is fundamental to allowing more creative, attacking players into the team.

We have to take advantage of this window with Chelsea and maybe City having transfer bans. Very little competition for players like Rice, Sancho and Wan-Bissaka. Arsenal and Spurs cannot compete for these players financially and Liverpool probably don't need Sancho and Wan-Bissaka as much. Wouldn't be surprised if Rice is looked by Liverpool however.

https://www.intothecalderon.com/201...ez-signs-atletico-madrid-villarreal-transfers

Rodri has signed a five-year deal with a €100 million buyout clause. He will officially join the club July 1.

Marca is not the most reliable i think?
Not sure tbh, I don't see any other source quoting the 100 ml figures and Marca is Madrid based paper if I'm not wrong.
What is into the Calderon, are they reliable? It looks like a fan made site tbh, don't think they are that reliable

From that Marca article :

His release clause has yet to be made public by both parties, but MARCA has learned that this 70m euros figure has been part of the agreement reached months ago, specifically in November 2017.

It is understood, in that sense, that a low clause is a price Atleti will have to pay for a transfer that has been agreed at very reasonable fee.

Rice or Neves for around £60m or Rodri for £80m?

Not even a question.

I actually think they'd all be about the same price as Wolvesa are minted and Rice just signed a 6 year deal and is now an England International.

Whose Rodri? And why is his clause so high?

The clause is just the standard these days for young talents I think, they are hoping to ward off interest. .

Plays for Atletico Madrid, although I believe he only went there this season so doubt he'll be leaving.

He's as likely to leave as Rice who just signed a 6 year contract, I mean at least Rodri has a clause so it's easier than several of the other options mentioned as the price is set.

Put Skriniar next to Lindelov the guy is a brute, it's being reported Inter quoted us 76 million last summer I can't see why we didn't pursue that deal.

Does not make sense for Atletico to set his clause at £60m when they see him as the long term replacement for Gabi, and when they bought him for £20m.

Do not know how reliable they are, but Marca is not often reliable.

Thats fair, I don't have any opinions on Rice to be honest.
