Alex Shaw was awful in terms of reliability before he went to ESPN. No idea what he's like now but I'd still take what he say with a huge pinch of salt.

Don't remember him ever breaking anything big, I think people put a bit more stock in what he says because he works for ESPN to be honest. I think Rabiot's really high salary might still be comparatively ok for United's wage structure. He was earning 60K at PSG and if we doubled it he'd be on par with the likes of Lingard and less than half of what the biggest stars earn. We could even consider it as Fellaini's money being reassigned.

I don't think he would get a better offer than that at many clubs so if its too low for him then let him go somewhere else.

Give him a higher signing on fee with reduced wages. Same cost, less impact on wage structure.

What Herrera brings to the team in terms of passion, work rate, tactical awareness and understanding of what it takes, and means to be a man united player is criminally underrated as a huge requirement to being a manchester united player by many on these forums.
