David McDonnell: "
United are continuing to hold talks with Rashford and his representatives over a new long-term deal that would see the forward’s wages double to £150,000-a-week. It is understood Rashford has no desire to leave his boyhood club, but United must agree an extension with him as quickly as possible, to keep Barca at bay."

I'm sure he'll ask for much more than 150k a week..

The only deals involving Sanchez will be loan deals where we eat at least half the cost of his wage bill.

Is it only me that is noticing a trend of big clubs buying players before the season has ended?

Why is this the case? How is it possible if the windows are not open?

I hope United don't dwindle until all the good players get sweeped up.

The windows are there for players to be registered. Business can be done outside of the windows but the players won't be able to play at the new club until the next window opens.

Bayern have done well signing versatile defenders (Pavard for RB and CB, Hernandez for LB and CB). Hell of a lot of money to spend but guess they'd point to the Laporte deal.

We bought Chicharito in April 2010. You can buy a player at any time, you just can't register them until the relevant window opens.

The German champs seem to really like their French fullbacks. Lizarazu, Sagnol, now this guy. He is decent, but that's absurd for someone who plays in that position.

This is a positive tweet in amongst the doom and gloom. I'm not surprised at the CB situation as beyond de Ligt and Koulibaly the options aren't great.
Go and get De Light o

Who the hell cares? Why do still talk about price?

Do City or their fans care they have £50m defenders all over their back line? Do Liverpool or their fans care VVD cost £75m?

You pay for quality, you get quality.

Has Alaba declined that much that they need to spend £68m on another LB? I mean Alaba is only 26. Don't watch much of Bayern outside of CL but I remember Alaba being one of their most talented and versatile players. Would he be worth buying to play CDM and LB if Shaw gets hurt?

"Herrera would like to remain at United but so far the club, who also want him to stay, have refused to meet his demands and a compromise is yet to be found.
Talks with Juan Mata are also ongoing. The 30-year-old will also be available on a free transfer in June if a new contract is not agreed in the next three months."

We'll probably lose Herrera and in desperation piss away a bunch of extra money to keep Mata who we don't need.

If Sanchez is still here next season that's us already a man down in attacking options as he's finished.

I believe like Pavard, Hernandez is a natural CB

We cannot afford to let both of them leave. No way are we signing two attacking players given that the midfield and the defense will need reinforcements.

We can afford to let Mata and Sanchez go, they both offer very little at this point.

Varane, Umtiti, Koubaliy, De Ligt, Ruben Dias and Skriniar?

Well you mentioned 2 I already said and Varane isn't a legit option, Skriniar is too flat footed and slow for the PL in my view and why fund Barca's de Ligt move by paying no doubt huge money for an injury prone CB they no longer deem good enough? As for Ruben Dias, he is the Benfica CB, right? Never seen him play but he's inexperienced and from a poor league, not sure he'd be usurping Smalling.

I think Alaba to Real and Marcelo to Juve.

With Boateng and Hummels on the decline, I think they're mainly bringing in replacements in Pavard and Hernandez. They may play a few games at full back but will mostly be playing at CB along with Sule. They like their versatile players with Alaba and Kimmich capable of playing in midfield as well as full back

68M for a leftback is a weird flex even if there's not many quality options around.

Showing faith in Shaw is looking more and more like an excellent decision.

I wouldn't want Alaba as a CDM and only backup LB. There is a reason he is one of the best LB and not a top CDM. I always see it in our internationals where he (IMO) nearly never has a outstanding CDM performance

Agreed. He's a versatile player no doubt but only really stands out at LB (from the limited number of times I've seen him).

Think he'd be an improvement on Shaw though for what it's worth.

No, we can't, we need numbers. Cannot enter a season with only 5 attacking players & some totally unproven kids.

It's the same difference when the players offer feck all to the team, and if we aren't buying a CB we might well buy 2 attackers, get Rabiot on a free for CM and buy a RB, job done.

That would be a good response if I ever said Shaw is better than Lucas Hernandez. I didn't.
Out of a cheaper, inferior footballer or a more expensive, better footballer, as a football fan remember, which is the "excellent decision"?

I can see that with both Boateng and Hummels being 30 and Bayerns talk of renewing the squad.

How much of that do you think could be attributed to the overall strength of the squad?
