"club is delighted with the work Ole has done in midfield and up front and doesn't see the need to search for additions in those areas."
But we're going to get a new Goalkeeper right ? RIGHT !!?

Anyway,we just need to relax.I'm sure the Glaziers and Ed will have us well prepared for the new season with the right adjustments to the first team squad.

*End of the 2019 summer transfer window*
Well,that could've gone better.

Mourinho wanted a new CB last summer but Woodward was happy with our current options and only wanted a superstar like Varane. At the moment I think it will be the same situation this summer.

If Bailly leaves then yes we will buy a new centre back. However that's conditional. You seem to believe we are 100% buying a new centre back no matter what and I'm trying to say we might but it will depend on our sales and if there is a player out there that both Woodward and whoever our manager is can agree on. I'm not trying to pick an argument with you, just don't get your hopes up basically :)

Oh yeah, sorry, I'm not either! I just thought originally you were trying to say because we resigned Jones - that's it. I still think Plan A is to get a new CB in, that could even be Koulibaly, but if we can do something financially viable with regards to players coming in or leaving, you're probably right. I shouldn't get my hopes up! I just think there is much more flexibility in the market than last year.

Inter demanded 76 million for Skriniar, so why did we not aquire him ? He's one of the best center half's in serie A.

Barcelona have a brilliant midfield, and brilliant centre backs, with strength in depth in both areas, and they still signed De Jong and they still want De Ligt.

We need to have that sort of ambition. We have a couple of elite players, and a handful of good players; but that's it. No depth and too much dross. Big changes are needed this summer.

No one is panicking. The article is a mere suppliment to the mountain of ineptitude Woodward shows. The concern is real and won't be solved until a proper structure is put in place. Not surprising that we havent really made a breakthrough on that side either.

This is exactly what I mean. Because the Daily Mail reports we aren't signing a CB it's suddenly true? And it's immediately Woodwards fault? We have no idea what's going on behind the scenes but some people here jump to conclusions based on unreliable articles.

This is fair, but obviously a lot of the reaction comes from past experiences. We've seen all this before, we know what the club is like lately. It's not going to take much to make plenty of us nervous and worried that we're in for another mess of a summer.

I don't think it's to do with ambition. Realistically we need a starting ST (replace Lukaku), RW, CM, CDM, CB & RB. When we some how manage to sign all those positions then we can look at adding depth.

Of course we're defensively playing well. Under Solskjær we're operating under counter-attacking principles and sitting deep in many games. Any defensive record will improve when you're not playing expansive. As soon as we start to play a little more proactively and on the front foot the current defensive weaknesses will appear again. Contemporary results only mask existent issues for so long. We'd be foolish not to invest imminently in a top class CB and RB.

Never thought Koulibaly was going to happen, but I'm still holding out hope for Alderweireld. Of course, self-appointed football expert Woodward basically sh*t on him in one of his press briefings last year, calling him no better than the CBs we already have, so maybe I should prepare myself for disappointment.

Alderweireld is fine as a short term solution, but I think we should be focusing on building a team who can start peaking in 2 or 3 years time. Going all out for De Ligt would make a lot of sense.

That said £25m for an experienced head could be worthwhile if the wages are sensible.

If Ed was reluctant to buy a CB last summer and only wanted to sign Varane however that realistic has been who's to say he'll want to buy a CB this time. Not to mention him being in charge of the signings is another potential disaster.

He'll hang on until he can sign Varane, which will be when he is about 35.

No one is taking Daily Mail as BBC, but given how shit Woodward has been its more likely to be true than not.

This is a positive tweet in amongst the doom and gloom. I'm not surprised at the CB situation as beyond de Ligt and Koulibaly the options aren't great.

Alderwierald, whilst not at his best would be a great squad addition for £25m.

I'm sorry, but surely this isn't true. Don't we have scouts? Aren't we meant to be looking at the entire globe? I can't believe in world football there are only two options. I'm finding it bonkers of the assessment I keep seeing that if we don't go for [insert two well known defenders names here] we might as well not bother.

We have to do better than that, surely.

I think we are avoiding 30 year olds who are past their best on huge wages from now on, and I think it's the right policy.

Well those scouts then have to weigh these other options up against the quartet we have and how well they feel Axel is developing, truth is you can probably get a CB of Jones or Bailly's level that is fitter and more reliable, but the club should be looking for big upgrades not sideways moves.

We' looking to make the step up to challenge for the title. A top level CB is more likely to provide the solidity and consistency required for mounting such a challenge. If we buy outside the well known pool of players, more often than not the player needs time to settle (eg Lindelof and Fred) or turns out to be a bad investment.

At times there are very few elite level players in particular positions. For example there aren't many elite level RW or RF in the game at the moment. The RW/RF pool is even smaller than the pool of elite level CBs. We are lucky this year to have choices like Alderweireld, Koulibaly, Skrinar , deLigt, Umtiti etc that are gettable for the right amount of money.

I'd rather get Toby on the cheap and free up cash for big money FB, RW and goal-scoring midfielder signings. We need a lot more fire-power in attack.

Hope Luckhurst's article is true.

Good, late-career signings should only be made as cheap stop-gaps (Zlatan) or to put a contending team over the top (RvP). Signing big money big wages 29+ y/o players for a team so far from contention really doesn't make much sense.

"Herrera would like to remain at United but so far the club, who also want him to stay, have refused to meet his demands and a compromise is yet to be found.
Talks with Juan Mata are also ongoing. The 30-year-old will also be available on a free transfer in June if a new contract is not agreed in the next three months."

Woodward going briefing again. Just covering up for the fact that we aren't getting a technical director? And seems to be fixated on Varane and 100 million for some reason.
