Don't believe this. Probably an official line to stop clubs from massively over charging.

Offering Jones a 4+1 contract was just for fun I guess? What about when we deemed centre backs too expensive or not good enough last season? There's a lot of smoke here and many predicted it already. I surmise that if we get top 4, then we will haggle again in the market, if we miss out on top 4 we will spend really big.

Doesnt look very promising for the summer. I know some people will tell me it is only March, but we are getting linked with more players leaving then summer recruitments., We need to strengthen and not sell or keep only our players.

I would like to believe that but I wouldn't put it past Woodward.

I doubt that's true, our defence has major issues, we regularly only have 2 fit CBs with Jones, Bailly and Rojo always injured.

They might be injured but they're on the books. Lindelof, Rojo, Bailly, Jones, Smalling and Tuanzebe coming back. We need to get rid of 2 at least.

@sam147, did Jones get a 100% payrise?
He was on 50k and is now on 120k.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit. Very good run papered over our cracks and we will probably have another underwhelming summer window.

He's gone off the radar has Hamez Rodríguez recently but I'm quite intrigued to see where he could end up this summer.
As the tweet suggests Madrid/Zidane dont seem to rate him and Bayern will likely bring in players more adaptive to Kovacs' style.

I'm expecting a quiet one. The upturn in form since Ole's arrival will have them thinking they can make do and he doesn't seem the type to kick up a fuss re transfers.

I do think a big-name attacker will be sought, though. My money would be on Bale.

Dybala our for a nice fee and Hamez in for some laughably low fee. Sounds about right for Juve.

Unfortunately you could be right.Hopefully Ole steps his foot down this summer or the Glaziers will take full advantage of his ,shall we say, managerial inexperience at this level.

Transfer rumours have a lot of fluff to them. But the clubs actions are undeniable. We have signed both Smalling and Jones onto new contracts, with both being in their primes. With 3 other centre backs being on the books , I doubt we will get one in without selling.

Normally I wouldn't be concerned as it's the Mail reporting it but it's not the first time I've read that we won't be signing a CB this summer. Jones is actually going to start games next season. Total stupidity if it turns out to be true. With Herrera having one foot out the door that article makes sense - spend big on a CM rather than CB. I fear that this is going to be true unfortunately.

"United, for Umtiti" ."The French has caché/name and at Old Trafford they think that if De Ligt arrives it would be an affordable signing"

Mundo Deportivo are not very reliable if I recall correctly, am I right?

Wouldn't mind Umtiti here, if De Ligt is certain to go to Barca.

I love Barca's transfer strategy by the way. Just hoover up all the best talents in the world.

Must admit, when Ole handed Jones an extension along with Smalling signing one not too long before it, I started to worry. I thought given Lindelof looks like he's secured a slot, why would we then spend 100m on a CB?

MD has too many people working or collaborating to say outright that it is reliable or unreliable, like Marca or radios.
In this case, it seems that the news emerged in the Dailymail and they are repeating.
AS already quoted the Daily Mail this morning. are they reliable?
Yes, Barcelona's strategy is very good, they also work fast.
They also have the signing of Jovic well on track.
Today I read that De Jong will earn 16 million euros!, so it seems reasonable that they want to get rid of someone.

The lack of optimism in recent posts is odd, barely two weeks ago Ole said the club needs quality players and ones who fit the bill.

Just remember who pays the bill!
Club dampening down expectations of fans. Or making out they won’t pay obscene amounts for identified targets. Or just media stories with no basis. Make your mind up which one it is...... for me it’s all gravy right now, see what actually happens in the summer. I hope the Glazers back the new manager, otherwise he’ll be the one fans turn on yet again...

Yeah, and we've decided to sell Sanchez to a top club for a premium price to fund the money to buy Sancho instead. Also, we have allowed Real Madrid to talk to Phil Jones agent over a swap deal for Varane. Lucky bastards

"... the success of Solskjaer and his coaching team in tightening the defence means United are now more likely to invest in a new right back or central midfielder..."

Thats exactly what I think, we had the belief that we have the worst Cbs in the world when, eventhough they are not world class, they are quite good. Would I get a top CB if I could? Of course! but right now we are playing without a natural right winger, without practically any backup for the centerfield, with a converted winger as RB. So CB should not be into our priorities right now.

If we get Smalling or Lindelof injured we have Jones, Bailly and Rojo as back ups, best back ups in the world? of course not, but they are good enough to be back ups. But if we get one midfielder injured and we end up playing with Pereira...or McTominay....So lets get our priorities first.

We need RW, CM, CDM, RB, and then a CB.

This surely has to be bollocks. RB or CM - how about both along with a CB and RF if we have any ambition.

I do not even believe we will finish in top 4 and as much as we have improved under Ole we are still far behind City and Liverpool in terms of quality and no better than the other three in top six, in my opinion.

When we give Young another year, McT, Smalling and Jones new deals and I'm sure we will end up giving Mata and Herrera new ones also I can see a quiet summer ahead for us muppets. The usual linked to 76 players including Bale, Neymar...Gaitan etc but end up pretty disappointed come the end of the window like last year.

The only positive is we spend big if we miss out on CL football, but as of yet no change to our buying structure then I would imagine we might continue with our occasionally hit but most likely miss transfer strategy.

Never thought Koulibaly was going to happen, but I'm still holding out hope for Alderweireld. Of course, self-appointed football expert Woodward basically sh*t on him in one of his press briefings last year, calling him no better than the CBs we already have, so maybe I should prepare myself for disappointment.

If we dont bring in a new CB we have to bring in a good DM. We cannot go into next season with Matic starting.

Any expectations I have for next season, much like this season, would be so much lower if we don't bring in a CB. My brain hurts at the idea that we won't improve in that area.

Ole didn’t do shit. It was the board.

We might still sign a new CB however the chances of it happening went down considerably once the club decided to keep Jones on our books for the foreseeable future. A ridiculous decision but it's been made and we are stuck with it.

No it didn't. We've been linked with nearly 10 CBs, the club is clearly looking for a CB. Jones extending and this Chris wheeler scatter gunning has no effect on this, we will continue to look to buy a CB.
