Nobody knows the details. We could have offered him ‘much less money’ last year and he wasn’t willing to sign it. Because he wants more, otherwise he’d sign it now if he didn’t want more.
There is absolutely no way if we'd offered him 150-200K last season he wouldn't have accepted. Especially if we'd done it before the Sanchez transfer. That would have doubled his wages. There is no forward thinking at this club, it's all reactive.

I didn't say it was. My point is we shouldn't be giving credit to Woodward for letting one our best performing players leave on a free at the age of 29. He obviously wasn't offered a new contract until recently, or we would have given him one. During the summer last season, he was 28. That would have been the perfect time to give him his last big contract, taking him to 32. He wouldn't have been able to talk to other clubs, so we wouldn't have to 'match' wages from PSG etc. That's common sense.
It's you who keep talking about Woodward.

You replied to a comment from pexbo about not holding it against the club if we don't offer Herrera a contract. I meant to reply to the original comment, but couldn't find it, so replied to yours. This has caused some confusion I think...
I agree that offering Herrera a long contract now isn't a great idea. But neither is losing him on a free.

Was about to write the same thing :)
Yeah, I don't think a long term deal is ok but hopefully we don't end up losing him either.

He's a big lump, that's for sure. I can not see us paying 30m for someone who's made 7 starts this season. Played RB last game as well.

How many starts did Martial or Dalot have? I can see us doing it, don't know if hes any good though

Madrid have this wonderful policy over the last six odd years of linking themselves with the best players to act big balls only to sign lesser players instead.
Oh we could have signed him, we just decided to go another way..

 Very true. I think the last “best of the best”
player they signed was Bale wasn’t it? I may be wrong of course. Still, they have been quite successful in this period, so you can’t knock the strategy during that time. It’s just run it’s course now I guess.

"United will rebuff any approaches for Marcus Rashford or Paul Pogba....Both players have been linked with Barcelona and Real Madrid but United are in talks with striker Rashford over a lucrative new long-term contract and midfielder Pogba - who claimed last week that it would be a “dream” to play for Real - has over two years left on his existing deal and an option on the club’s side to extend that by another 12 months.
Dortmund are adopting a hardline stance over Sancho, a leading target for United. The Bundesliga side are insistent the 19-year-old will not leave this summer and it could take an offer of around £100 million or more for them to even countenance selling."

Thought that's exactly what gambling is.....'risk'. Lottery is gambling right?

Not exactly. There is no judgment in a lottery, its random. Where as there is a high degree of judgement applied in taking a 'gamble' on a player.

"... the success of Solskjaer and his coaching team in tightening the defence means United are now more likely to invest in a new right back or central midfielder..."

This place. Im sure you are familiar with the term and not literally. My point is irrespective of whether there's a degree of judgement or attempts to predict the outcome, the outcome of transfers in not a science. The outcome of transfers is a lottery cause the outcome is completely unpredictable.

Instead of a buying a new CB we gave Jones a 100%+ payrise for being able to stay fit for 6 games. As soon as he signed he went missing again. This club is run like a joke. Woodward thinks he is protecting his assets when in reality his assets are dross who dont deserve to play for this club. If this summer is anything like the last then fans need to take action. A club like United shouldnt have to make do with what they have at CB so they can direct funds to sign a midfielder. They should sign both.

Its not a lottery although there are risks involved, I believe thats what the other poster was trying to say. Lottery is the wrong word, thats all, I agree with the overall point.
