I don't understand why we have not been able to extend Herrera's contract.
He has been among the most consistent performers in the post SAF era.
May be he demands higher wages? Whatever it is, he deserves a new contract.

Such a shame if he let him go for free while we extended contracts for players like Fellaini and Rojo.

We are trying to renew his contract but he demands more than 200K+.

Maybe he wants to leave. He's been at Man United for 5 years and this is his last change to get a move to another big club.

Fellaini was sold and Rojo is for sale. Think those were simply to preserve value.

The club are a shambles with contracts, they really are. I think Herrera is overrated but definitely deserved priority regarding contracts over the chuckle brothers and even Shaw. He'll not be easy replaced if he does leave. When Herrera is at it, he gets the tempo going and we can pull out a huge result. I think he's always been in and out of the team unfortunately. He's had some great days but never a solid season of performances.

He has responded to these links:

'It is logical when you have three months of contract and there are stop selections,' he told El Periodico.

'I already knew something was going to come out. I take it as normal, I focus on playing football in the month and a half that remains.

'The rest is left to my agent, both the possible renewal with United and if you talk to another club for my departure.'

'I enjoy being at the biggest club in England, the fans love me, they have treated me phenomenally and my duty is to listen to them, although I honestly do not know what is going to happen.

'What I see myself is trying to win at Watford next week. If things deserve it and if you are an honest and hardworking person, they arrive.'

If he's asking for too much then we are right to refuse.
I dont understand people saying this. Do you not realise that we overpay for absolutely everyone under Woodward?

Herrera definitely deserves a renewal when we can pay the chuckle brothers, Lingard & Young over 100k a week.

Herrera is twice the player of all of them.

We need all the character we can get, our squad is flaky as it is. God help us if Herrera goes.

It's a joke that we're even in this situation.

Dont think he is asking for 200k+. I think the length of the contract might be an issue. PSG give him 3 and i guess we give him 2+1, since he is turning 30 in August. We either give him a longer contract or more money, he is quite important to us at this stage

Contract length must be the issue as it was with Fellaini

As others have said, contract lenght is a very possible issue.

Slightly controversial here but I won’t blame the club if they are refusing to give him large wages on a long deal.

When Herrera’s legs go, there won’t be that much of a player left there.

Hope Ander stays with us.

A great little player with the right attitude who is vastly underrated in my opinion.

I won't have a big problem with it if we replace him adequately.

I'm unsure we do, based on recent history.

It's a butterfly effect. Instead of signing him on a new deal 1-2 seasons ago (worst case scenario you sell him if he's asking for crazy wages which he wouldnt have pre-Sanchez). Now he's asking for big wages because of Sanchez' wages and is 29 so won't get a maximum length contract. It's negligence.

I agree with this too mate.

I really like Herrera, but if his requested payrise puts him in the top tier of club earners then I understand our hesitancy.

Who knows, maybe Ole and the team see Garner and Scotty McT as part of the rotation and want to use the Ander wages to contribute towards someone like Rabiot or Fernandes.

Pogba, Matic, McTominay, Garner, Fred and either Fernandes/Rabiot seems like enough to me. We also have Perreira and young Gomes too.

What do you mean "United will not sell" If he wants to go there is nothing we could do. Did you say the same about Ronaldo when he was constantly linked away from the club?
He is under contract so United can say no. Pogba was linked constantly to everything and everywhere last year too and will be in the future too. I would not be too worried about it, but of course everything is possible.

Agreed. Shame we didn’t extend his contract a while ago but at some point we just need to stop giving big, long contracts to everyone. We’d be mad to give Herrera 200k as good a character and a useful player he is.

It's not controversial at all. At some time we have to take the hard route and stop players fecking us using Sanchez card.

If Sanchez is the reference for every deal then we should accept that we fecked up signing him, let go player like Herrera, Mata and also try to offload Sanchez even if we have to pay some percentage of wages.

Where did that 200k figure come out from?

Things is, what kind of salary we'll give to a new CM if we're going to buy one.

Depends on the quality of the player.

Overall cost will obviously be more than the renewal of Herrera but just like Sanchez contract, it will have domino effect. We have to take stand at some point.

Baffling that we're making a stand on Ander. Especially since Jones has renewed.

No one knows what we are paying Jones. We used the same sort of logic when we signed Sanchez, look at the mess we ended up in.

I'm a big fan of Herrera but the decision we make now, there is a good chance it will bite us big time in the future, especially with so many contract renewals coming soon.

This has nothing to do with renewing average players like Jones who will be on low wages. If the rumored 240K is true then we have no choice but to let him go.

Where is that 240 figure from. We shouldn't have renewed with Jones. I hope we're not haggling over some small figure with Ander. And I wouldnt be surprised if after letting him go we would overpay for somewhere else.

What kind of stand are we talking about here when we have average to shit players like Jones, who are not even fit and getting new contracts on 100k+ a week? I agree we need to put an end to it, but letting Herrera leave on a free isn't the way to do it.

That was reported before (think it was by Discomirro). Also don't think it's haggling over small figure, think Ducker reported that the difference is big.

I'm not saying we shouldn't renew him, I'm saying we shouldn't renew if the asking wages is very huge as it will have domino effect like Sanchez's deal had on other renewals.

Kind of stand City took when they didn't match wages for sanchez or Jorginho?

If 240K is true then there is a good chance he will be in top 5-7 top earners in PL, it's not healthy for the club.

What or who is Discomirro? :)

Mirror reporter who is decent with Manutd news. After that Ducker reported that the difference in what ManUtd offered and what Herrera wants is huge.

So going back to my initial point, it's not controversial to say we shouldn't give large wages on long deal. We have enough examples like Sanchez, Rooney.

It is not, same as giving a new contract to a useless Phil Jones who earns the same as our starting midfielder Herrera most probably. My point was that the problem goes dipper. Jones, Mata, Lingard and others, they are all overpaid for the service they give.

So you want us to repeat the same mistake and offer huge contract to Herrera which puts him in top 5-7 earners in the league? When exactly are we going to learn from past mistakes?

Before Jose left he was fourth option midfielder with Fellaini being ahead of him. He probably was also looking to go somewhere else for more game time. But since Ole has come in Ander has gotten the squad role he has always deserved. I think that's what has delayed the whole situation. Had he been a mainstay under Jose his contract would have probably been tied up earlier in the season.

I want to keep our best players and get rid of the useless ones. What I've seen from the rumors, Herrera supposedly agreed a 170k a week with PSG. Surely we can give him that, on a reasonable length that is.

It was McDonnell. The (only) guy who reported Mourinho will be sacked after the Newcastle game. He knows feck all. Mirror is generally hot garbage anyway.

Would be disappointing not to extend Herrera when we gave a lengthy deal to that clown Jones. Herrera is a key player and would take £40m+ to get a player of similar quality in this market (although that's what we spent on the inferior Fred).
