Morata would be a good compliment to a top level striker in a two forward system. Playing alongside a Messi or a Griezmann where he's not being dependent on to carry the scoring load. His movement is excellent and he makes good runs into space. Those things would create a lot of space for the other forward.

Makes sense that these other big clubs want him. It's clear that he's not a lone #9.

Watched part of the Sporting v Porto game last week. He was solid from what I saw, but obviously less than 1 game is nowhere near enough to judge someone. Here's what I noticed though. Played as (right-footed) LCB which is what we need. Big, strong, good in the air, pretty good on the ball for a CB (better than Smalling for sure) but he's only 20 so might lack a little focus.
Thanks for the input. I've watched some clips and he looks alright. But, in the same time, all players look alright in clips.
I'd still like us to go for a well established CB, but that'll be expensive as feck.

Why would there be so much interest in an average striker?

All the hype came about with Morata because he did a good job off the bench for Madrid. Scored some goals.

Obviously not good enough to be a first choice at a team like Barcelona, but I guess they think he can score goals for them off the bench as a plan B. He'd probably be happier doing that than being plan B at Chelsea as well.

He could do better than Fenerbahce. I can see quite a few premier league clubs interested in him and there's also the option of going back to Valencia.

According to?

Valencia dont need more overrated attacking players. They need a regular goalscorer

Mata will do fine as a second striker in Spain. His goal scoring ability is probably still his best attribute now and he can produce goals if played centrally.

I will be extremely sad to see Mata go. He still has a lot to offer
He does to the right team and right system, unfortunately we've now changed to a pressing and fast counter attack system, which doesn't suit him and you can tell the drop in performance when he plays.

He is a fantastic footballer but sentiment won't help us get rid of the players who don't suit the system.

Mata still has a lot of offer and lot of clubs could offer him a key role in Germany/ Italy / Spain. He is not that kind of guy who will make a big fuss about wages either.

They dont need a 2nd striker.

They need the number 1 striker who will score regularly and make runs in behind the defense, or hold onto the ball. Someone to replace Alcacer and Soldado before him. They signed Gameiro and he did a poor job of it so he doesnt play. They had Batshuayi on loan and he did a poor job of it so they sent him back to Chelsea.

Rodrigo is inconsistent, he was their main goalscorer last season but has lost his nerve in front of goal this season. A lack of composure. But can still do a job on the ball and trying to find teammates in decent positions as he used to play as a winger. So Valencia have someone to play off the main striker.

Mina is young and not good enough yet, maybe never will be. But he's the type they need just a better version of him ready for the team to rely on.

Thats the opposite of Mata. He would only fit as a sub

If Valencia want someone off our training pitch the best fit is probably Rossi.

If we were able to sell Mata this month then we would have the space to get Malcom in on a six month loan + option to buy.

Its easy to resist when you play them.
I know Pogba got away but we still ended up playing 4 players from our acadamy in the Spurs game last week.
Chelsea and City will suffer from poaching if they don't change their ways but Utd seem to be signing highly rated 15/16 year olds every other season. It's because we play them and give them a chance.
No need to throw us all under the bus.

You would have thought they would learn by now, it could save them a fortune in transfers. The real question is why they are so scared to play them. I don’t see Foden ever living up to his hype unless he leaves City and gets regular games.

Pat Nevin was on Five Live preaching about how impossible it is for Chelsea to blood through youngsters when they're not as good as Hazard or William.
Those two clubs will never learn if they share Pats mindset. Anybody could play an 18 year old that's as good as Hazard, that's not the skill in it and its fecking impossible for that to to be the case.

I’d sell Mata in a heartbeat. Lovely guy but not good enough for Utd. Too slow.
