We don't really plan to buy any player do we? Chelsea are strengthening. We need to catch them and it will be difficult without reinforcements
We aren’t going to buy any players this January. We don’t even know who are next permanent manager is going to be. So I don’t see we why we would spend money on players the next manager might not want.

At this point, what's the point? Chelsea had this kid raring to go but they splashed a tonne on Pulisic instead, and if reports are to be believed tonight they are also chasing Leon Bailey, he's better off going to Bayern.

He would be stupid to take this.

He can easily make this money and more in future if he goes and does well at Bayern.

Imagine being offered that amount of money at his age. You cannot call him stupid.

I think he should take it. He's only 18 and has already played a decent amount. Just compare to Gomes who is the same age. I don't think I would say the same for other Chelsea youth products as Chelsea have not proven they give time to anyone else other than CHO.

He should get in his contract a clause like Thiago did, if he doesn't play a certain amount of minutes in a season he can leave for a set price.

He shouldn't take it if he wants to develop as a player. Chelsea will be happy to put him on the loan merry-go-round. That said, Bayern are probably too big a club for him too at this point. A team like Leipzig that can offer regular first team football to him would be best.

I hope he doesn't sign it. Imagine being the best played reserve player never to break through at Chelsea? Joke of a club, him and RLC should leave ASAP.
They definitely should, not the club any young plsyer should stay at if they want to develop and play.

It's the same at City. They've been talking for years about these great youth academies, light years ahead of the facilities available at United, all the best talent being snapped up. All the while, United have had a youth academy product in the team every week since the 60's and nothing ever comes out of these plastic clubs.

He'd have to compete with Coman, Gnabry and Davies. 2 of them usually pick up enough injuries to miss out on half a season. This is basically a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I hope we offer him guaranteed playing time in the contract and a release clause for a reasonable amount if not met. As a Chelsea fan I don't want to see him rotting on the bench, would rather we develop him but if we're not going to bother may as well let him go to a club who will.

He's an attacker. If he does well on his career he can up to 4 or 5 times that. This is just short term thinking.

At Bayern he is going to a proper club that promotes talent and protects them.. With good performances he could easily be making that money in two years. Probably much more. Being seduced by Chelsea's money would be very stupid imo..

He has seemingly been brought into the team largely due to this contract issue.

But it's more than just that for me.. Bayern are a great club. A great institution. As a youngster I'd rather be at Bayern than Chelsea.

Don't agree with him just being in Chelsea team due to his contract, Willian has been awful, good goal last week aside he's barely contributed in the last few months. I think it was the game before he was dreadful, miscontrolling simple passes and letting the ball run out of play on multiple occasions. I'd bite Barcelona's hand off to if they're really offering £40m and put CHO as a regular in his place for the rest of the season. Plus the triple H forward line has a nice ring to it if we get our targets in.

With the threat of missing out on the top 4 it's not likely your club change their whole thinking that quickly. They'll stick by the experience and hope it gets them over the line

Since you mention Veratti let's look at him as an example.

He was at Pescara, earning a tiny wage, and had never played a top flight game or been capped by Italy when PSG signed him. At PSG he became regarded as a top class midfielder, became established in his national team, won a large number of team and individual awards and earned more money than he could spend in several lifetimes. (If this is career stagnation then 99.9% of footballers are having disastrous careers). The possibility of leaving has been an option at times but he always turned it down by signing repeated contract extensions.

If I was de Jong I would look at Veratti's career as almost a dream path to follow rather than a warning not to sign for them.

PSG are no more dominant in France than Juventus are in Italy or Bayern in Germany but I never see posters getting upset or confused when players join those clubs.

I don't think Veratti has ever been up for the Ballon d'Or but tbf that award is heavily biased towards attackers and while he is a top class midfielder he's not one who stands out from his generation like Xavi for example. He has been on the shortlist for the FIFPro World XI three times since joining PSG which is not an insignificant achievement. I stand by what I said that his career has benefited massively from joining PSG and it's understandable why so many other top class players have joined them in the past and will continue to do so in the future.

Excellent posts

Xavi is a better/greater player of course. That said,

1) The French league - the league of farmers - is not very visible.
3) Some PSG coaches made some strange mistakes in the most critical games in the latest stages of the Champions League
2) Xavi was part of the Golden era of Spain (versus Squadra Azzurra in trouble) and Barcelona, and benefited from a better environment particularly in the following positions:

#6 = Prime Busquets versus Lo Celso against Madrid last season/Motta in his 30s
#8 = Prime Iniesta versus Matuidi or Rabiot
Right-wing = Prime Messi versus Ménez, Lucas Moura, Cavani, Di Maria, M'bappé the last season only

Yes his career has stagnated. PSG has to fight nobody to win those team honors and let me know about how many times he was nominated for b'dor/world XI etc. He is too good for the French league and hence his honors which is only on league level. Chopu moting is on his way to win some trophies in France.

From the bench or stadium stands

In terms of playmaking, keeping the ball and dictating the tempo, a Paredes, De Jong and Verratti midfield would be ridiculous, even if i doubt they will all start at the same time too often.

Wouldn't touch this with a 10 ft pole. Why would Porto be pushing for him to go now for E50m when his buyout increases to E75m in May? My thought would be that he isn't worth the E50m they want for him now and in another 6 months of playing he certainly wont be worth the E75m and probably not even the E50m. Didnt he join the club in the summer just gone? Definitely having a purple patch and Porto want to cash in.

Paredes, Verratti, Weigl and de Jong seems a bit much for one squad.
That's what I had said the other day on here. All of these players are kind of Deep Lying Playmakers (though De Jong could adapt his game to a different role) and having even 3 such players in their squad is a bit much, never mind 4. Makes me wonder, are they gonna be moving Verratti?

Parades for 35 will be one of the signings we will regret later(for not even trying) Good replacement for Matic.

DM is one position where we should absolutely not be making any signings without knowing who our manager will be.
