Not sure why we're in such a hurry to get rid of Fellaini. He may still be useful. In fact, even on Sunday, he probably should have been an option to defend from set pieces given Tottenham's ability from crosses/corners. Moreover, he could have been an out option when we were trapped in our half for thirty fecking minutes.

Even though you'll be criticized for making this post, you raise a very valid point. Fellaini is still a very useful player in certain scenarios, including the one on Sunday. When they brought on Llorente, Fellaini should've been in. He brushed aside Jones with ease to win a header and created a great chance for Kane in 90th minute. It wasn't near the corner so it was saved but it could've been very well 1-1.

No one wants him starting in big matches, but it's fine to have an aerial presence of him in the reserve especially when we as a team suck at it. Sell him in the summer, when we sign defenders who can actually win headers and not be bullied by any decent striker but not now. People don't talk about it, but teams in Europe always struggle against Fellaini so he could also be an asset in CL this year.

Thats right. Even the supposed superior Poch resorted to that tactic with the sub Llorente. Fellaini is a good player to have, but only as Plan B or C. Not the focal point for main tactics. As few have said, he maintained his 6~7 performances under all the managers before.

Difference is Llorente was a free buy, and gets a third of the wages Fellaini picks up. Plus he is happy to sit on the bench. Fellaini also stands for Moyes and Jose pet to the fans. He wouldnt be here now without Jose anyway

- I was talking in terms of tactical point of view, not commercial one. Plus, that is up to the agents or board staff, at least Ed to determine the wages and whatnot. Not the manager or coach (I think).

- I think this where the problems/issues lie with most fans, that he is somehow associated with everything that were wrong with the last managers. In hindsight, he shouldn't be bought by Moyes but again, not Fellaini's fault. Not his fault that he was chosen by Jose to start almost every game as well. What Fellaini can do and did that he always follow instructions to a T, and maintain that consistent albeit nothing spectacular performances, plus bringing other type of tactical options that at the moment is not available besides him. Problem was he was used as Plan A by both Moyes and Jose, and again not Fellaini's fault. If fans want to "hate" anyone, it should be the managers not the players.

It’s about upgrading the standard of players relative to how Ole sees us playing. If we get rid of Fellaini that opens up a spot in midfield (in our squad). So instead of needing the aerial plan B we might get an upgrade for one of the other two (Matic or Herrera, hopefully Matic), elevating our usual game (Plan A) while keeping better options on the bench.

I hope we get to a point soon where our plan B isn’t just a tall player who wins headers and takes the ball down on his chest. If deemed necessary we won’t have problems replacing with a)a younger cheaper option b)someone who can play as well as fight c) b baby, all day long. Thanks for the effort, Marouane, next...

Sad that so talented young players go to one team leagues for money.

The fee will be interesting because he was supposed to be the third option behind the cheaper Weigl and one of Salzburg's DM. They reportedly looked at Doucouré and De Jong but didn't like the fees.

The United move completely destroyed his career yet he's still getting linked to big clubs. Italy would probably suit him now though.

Silly move, a financial doping club that is respected by no one and plays in one of the most uncompetitive leagues on planet earth. What's the point? Not like he won't get a decent wage anywhere else.

Turkish twitter is going mad about Fenerbache apparently making a bid for Juan Mata.

That'd be a huge surprise for me.

Fener are (or were) in the relegation zone last time I checked.

THought he was older than 30. I'd take a decent fee for him but that won't happen. His contract is up at the end of the season, right?

Our fans aren't that stupid.

Yep. French league is piss poor and the only time people will talk about him is when they play in the CL. Those are the only games where you will be really tested.

Guess Mbappe is also wasting away right?

Didn't Llorente cost them near €15m?

I get people being annoyed, and I get the negatives about going to France, but he's moving to a great city and will be paid big money. I don't blame him at all. Successful team that sooner or later will crack the CL, it's not exactly hard to work out why he'd go there.

Also he can go to a better league than the Dutch league and play for 4 or 5 seasons there then make the move to a big league when he runs down his contract. Maybe he doesn’t trust himself enough and thinks he needs another step in the ladder first.

PSG are building a great young side and it's annoying. Neymar, Mbappe, De Jong, Kimpembe, Marquinhos, and Verratti.

I don't think it's just about the money, Barcelona is a beautiful city and he'd get a lot of money there too. Maybe he just believes in the PSG project more than Barcelona's. I think it's a good move for him.

Real thing or wishful thinking? (Kieran Maguire is a lecturer in football finance at Uni of Liverpool.)

Sort of been touched upon in the responses to that tweet by the looks of it. It sounds like we're operating as we have been over the years.

I don't rate Ed for his football brain but I have no fear he'd feck up the financial side.
