If we are letting Fellaini go, then it's important to get in a replacement, I might be boring people with this but Paredes is gettable, and would be an asset both short and long term (Matic replacement)
Doubt we're making any signing's in January and I reckon Solskjaer will be more inclined to play a reserve player. Mostly for the crowd but also to show his willingness to invest in youth, all things you do when you're having a job interview.

We managed to get £22M for Schneiderlin, and Everton gave him wages of £120k. Yeah, we've been bad at selling previously but I doubt other clubs would have been able to get what we got for Schneiderlin after his performances here.
We're not a selling club though are we? We let players go when we're done with them, wages are also a hurdle for any team taking our castoffs. You're right though, we did alright with Schneiderlin considering how underwhelming he's been.

If and it is IF, Periera, Fred and McTomminay had shown any signs of stepping up I would agree about playing reserves, but none of them have impressed, I think we will make a couple of signings this window but as most will agree we need to sell players first, I can see Fellaini leaving and getting in a midfielder, and I suspect we may still sell 2, maybe 3 defenders to bring 1 in.
Paredes for Fellaini is an easy decision.
Koulibally for Valencia, Jones and Rojo is a bit more pie in the sky, but to me another easy decision.

David McDonnell: "Marouane Fellaini is set to become the first casualty of Ole Gunnar Solskajer's reign – with Manchester United ready to listen to offers for the midfielder.... AC Milan, Porto and Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande have all identified Fellaini as a transfer target, with United said to want in the region of £15million for the versatile 31-year-old."

What are they doing in the picture

Agree with those names you mentioned but I think Chong, Gomes and McTomminay will get more time if we move on Fellani. Can't see the quality of midfielder we'll be looking to bring in will be available in this window. I'm expecting us to start sounding players out for permanent moves in the summer. Also, you'd have to be fecking mental to be a player and sign for a club without knowing who the next manager is going to be yet. You'd want to know that the full time manager wanted you at the club and has plans for you.

I see the point but at the same time I’ve no time for using him as a tactic if we need a goal. It becomes too tempting and takes away from the good work we would have been doing. Get rid.

5 mins to go against PSG and we need a goal it would be daft not to stick Fellaini on. We can still sell him for 15 mill in the summer anyway.

Yes. Fellaini should not be sold now. He can be useful sometimes

I get your point but let's say you are Lionel Messi, then you know you will play every week whoever the manager is, I guess it depends on your standing in world football but if I was a professional footballer and had the chance to play for United, I would weigh up the competion for a starting place rather than whether the manager rates me, I always believe that the cream rises to the top, Pogba v José being a case in point.

I'd personally walk to Old Trafford barefoot if it meant I got to play for United but I think footballers perhaps see things differently. I'd love it if we brought in some quality during this window, I just can't see it and after being burnt by Sanchez last season I think we'll be extra cautious. I hope you're right though!

"Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly is a leading target, but while United would seek to bring him in this month if the opportunity rose, the Italian club have shown little appetite to negotiate in mid-season so far and an approach is likely to have to wait until the summer.'

A year too late for Rojo.

Fellaini and Rojo out in January would be great, they arent needed. Deadwood needs to get shipped out ASAP

People seem desperate to get rid of Fellaini - well - he is no Pogba, but if 2 of our central midfielders get injured we are stuck with Fred and Andreas Pereira, and that scares me a lot more than Fellaini
Solskjaer's all about quick passing in offensive transition to break as effectively as possible. As much as I like him and think he can be vital in certain game situations, Fellaini doesn't offer much in that department.

Who would you rather have to replace injured Matic in a CL semi final? McTominay?

Personally i would put Ander to replace Matic and Fred or Perreira for Ander's position. Actually i would like to see that now. Gives Matic time to rest and we would see how it works.

I like Fellaini but for me he isn't the type of player we should play. Ever.

If he pulls this off, we should sign him up permanently.

Casualty?

Are they going to take him out and shoot him?

Swap deal and £50m should do the job.

Get the impression that anyone sold under a caretaker manager must be because they're a negative influence on the squad. Can't see us bringing anyone in this window unless someone amazing becomes available so shipping people out must be for squad harmony reasons.

We can't lose both Rojo and Fellaini without getting replacements in - our squad isn't that big and it's still a bit too early for Chong, Gomes and Garner.

Actually, they're the two people we can lose without bringing anyone in. Solskjaer seems to prefer McTominay, Fred and Pereira to Fellaini. We still have 6 players for 3 positions in midfield and then there's Garner as well who can play there if need be so we don't really need Fellaini. What we need is someone to provide competition to Matic. But Fellaini can't do that so he can go. Rojo has been injured all season so what does it matter if he's injured here or somewhere else? We need to get them off the wage bill ASAP so we have more room for new contracts for the likes of Martial and De Gea and so we can bring in some quality additions.

:wenger:. Fellaini I get what you mean, he's not played much under Ole. We have been playing without Rojo all season.

Rojo has barely played.....for Utd. He's always been in and out with injuries. I forget he exists all the time, the idea we couldn't sell him this month is nonsense seeing as we've survived without him the majority of his time here.

Imagine not keeping Fellaini when we have knockout football coming up. Get rid of him in the summer if we have to, no point in shrinking the squad in January.

Yep this sounds the most sensible option to me.

So regarding Fellaini, I defended Jose's decision to re-sign him because he was a player Mou utilised and had scored important goals when our front line was misfiring (regularly). I think with Ole getting more out of Pogba, Martial, & Rashford he slips from a Plan B to a Plan D and if he doesn't plan to use him much then he should go.

Not sure why we're in such a hurry to get rid of Fellaini. He may still be useful. In fact, even on Sunday, he probably should have been an option to defend from set pieces given Tottenham's ability from crosses/corners. Moreover, he could have been an out option when we were trapped in our half for thirty fecking minutes.

Are you Mourinho in disguise?

We played a LOT of long ball against Tottenham. In that particular instance, it was to make use of Rashford's pace in behind. But against a faster set of defenders, maybe Fellaini would have been a better option.

It would be a mistake to get rid of one of the best aerial presences in the world unless we can find an alternative. A greater number of tactical options is always better than fewer.

Thats right. Even the supposed superior Poch resorted to that tactic with the sub Llorente. Fellaini is a good player to have, but only as Plan B or C. Not the focal point for main tactics. As few have said, he maintained his 6~7 performances under all the managers before.

Fellaini can be a really good option if we're chasing a game or need help in the box for the last 15 mins. Could play a role in the CL games, latter stages of the league or with other players getting injured/suspended. He's scored some great last minute goals and he's a resilient character.

Sadly I don't rate his midfield passing, he's like a spare wheel when he starts. Pogba Herrera and Matic is our best midfield and totally see why Ole would not fancy him in there but lets keep him till the end of the season.
