Hot take alert: This won't be the same as the VVD signing, at least not in terms of how quickly he settles and improves us.

It would likely go well into next season before he is really settled and caught up to speed with the league. Signing defenders especially from other PL clubs has its advantages.

Okay Mystic Meg

Dunno where they can fit so many midfielders and I'm not that sure that they'll be okay with staying on the bench.

But, the big but, if they sign those two, wouldn't we want to take a 100mil punt on Kante?

Bakayoko Drinkwater and Fabregas on the way out. Kovacic is only a loan

They'll be well stocked. I think it would be a strange move for Paredes as he'll be behind Jorginho in the pecking order, but he did move to Russia for the $$$ so I guess he'll be happy to do so again. I wanted him when he was at Roma and we could have had a real bargain, but unfortunately we went for Matic.

Our dithering over a CB is letting us fall behind. OGS is currently a yes man and the next manager will be one as well. Woodward should have hired a DOF now. So they have preparation ahead of the new season on assessing the squad, new contracts and new signings. His uncertainty on OGS or a new manager will only prolong this. Parades and Barella will end up going to Chelsea while we chase Koulibaly all summer. If Edward Woodward had any footballing knowledge he would be able to see we need a new defence and a proper midfielder. Pereira, McTominay, Fellaini should not be near the starting lineup and Herrera is on his last legs.

Godin would be a disaster. I don't think he's all that anymore. Worries me we're chasing after him, hope it's untrue. But if it true, at least it means we're trying for a defender this month.

Really? Haven't watched much (or any) of Atletico Madrid this season but he was excellent in the World Cup for Uruguay.

I still think hes the best in the world even at 32 or whatever he is. That link is to BBC gossip, and the source is some Spanish website. Is a load of turd

not to get in the way of you going off, but hiring the right personnel takes time. also, most managers, due to the nature of their job, are "yes men". I'd hazard a guess that Woodward has more football knowledge than your entire family tree combined. Lastly, Herrera has been one of the outstanding performers since Ole took over, so what are you even on about him being on his last legs?

Disaster might have been a bit strong by me, but I do think he's in decline, which isn't a surprise given his age. I don't know how smart a move to the PL at this point would be, and I doubt he'd make the move. We do need a wise old head back there though clearly.

I thought he was great at the WC, but whenever I've seen him this season for Madrid I don't think he's as good as he was.

That's one of the reasons I think he would be a perfect signing this window if (big if) he was willing to make the move mid-season. I still rated him as one of the best CBs in the world at the beginning of this season so would be a shocking decline if he wasn't able to come into our team and instantly be our best defender (by some distance).

Extremely doubtful that Madrid would let him go mid season, and even if they were willing, then you'd have to ask the question why would they be.

According to reports we've been after a DOF for about 2 years now, exactly how long do you think it takes to bring one on board?

For that money he would be better than lingard surely is he?
I can't claim to have watched much of him but his reputation at youth levels and from what I've heard from other he probably is (or at least should be). I doubt Chelsea would be willing to sell him to a rival, plus I don't think any other top 6 team would want him as it's a big price tag and they're probably not willing to take a risk on such an inexperienced player.

Strange as they have hardly used him much this season as it is, hence why he wants to leave

Willian and Loftus Cheek just picked up injuries? They don't have many options

I want Koulibaly, but in the meantime I want De Ligt too. Realistically we need more Koulibaly, but De Ligt looks like too good to miss out if there’s a chance.

I don't like having a downer on us, but I can't for the life of me see De Ligt going to us ahead of other teams who will be interested at this point in time. Yeah we'd offer him big money, but so will PSG etc.

Well I think I remember reading somewhere that he's a fan of the EPL, maybe he's a United fan. Also with VDS there, I'm sure he'd be happy to deal with us
Then the most important thing IMO is that we are probably the only top club which can offer him a starting spot.

It's more likely that we're being linked with the portuguese targets as they were who Jose wanted and the media don't have a clue who our new targets would be so are just rehashing those.
