Koulibaly to OT seems to be gaining steam

Can't see Napoli selling this window though a few weeks after extending him. Although it would be preferable to get him in now before other clubs make their moves during the summer

France football being the only outlet running the story makes me question that link.

Looks like Bayern will get their man.

Without even playing much Chelsea are getting this kind of money for him. Our players never seem be be worth this much money and yet we keep overrating some of youth talents heavily.

Hot take alert: This won't be the same as the VVD signing, at least not in terms of how quickly he settles and improves us.

It would likely go well into next season before he is really settled and caught up to speed with the league. Signing defenders especially from other PL clubs has its advantages.

Correct. He may eventually end up being as important to us as VVD, but it won't be right away and its far from guaranteed. But at this point, why not go for it, we're desperate.

Liverpool fan in my office is saying that they are trying to hijack this move in this window while Madrid want him in the summer.

This deal will be about who pays the most. I'm sure if we stump up the cash we get him now.

If Liverpool got him it's the best centre back pairing in the world. Can't let it happen.

Literally no chance Liverpool are signing him.

He played in the same U17 World Cup that England won with Sancho (though he left early to return to Dortmund) in terms of other players that featured there is Foden (Man City), Gibbs-White (Wolves) and Sessegnon (Fulham). All these guys have had exposure in the PL and have started games in the PL, possibly apart from Foden.

It's a highly rated group and given how well Sancho has done in the Bundesliga, they probably think someone who was classed in the same tier of talent as Sancho can replicate it for them.

None of the guys heavily involved in these youth teams have been from United unfortunately.

Suppose he is getting playing time at Villa, but Wolves wouldn't have been a bad move.

Think Wolves are happy with Jimenez, at least some Wolves fan on caf said how good he is even though he doesn't score goals. I think it's a good decision. He is settled at Villa and having good season, better to end the season with lots of goals rather than warming bench at Wolves.

What Prem experience did the likes of Stam, Carvalho, Gallas and Vidic have before coming to England and becoming world class?

No need to be jealous of Chelsea folks, looks like they could lose their most talented kid to Bayern and Hazard to Madrid in the summer. Who cares about a £50m midfielder who could turn out just like Fred? We’re better than them anyway, this will be shown in the 2nd half of the season.
You've played a bunch of relegation candidates and suddenly you're better than Chelsea. At least wait and see if you beat Spurs before becoming irrational.

Anyway, I think CHO will move back to the PL within 3 years for mega-money. He's that talented. Will be a real gut punch to see him go. Especially since Willian has been awful this season and he should really be starting in his place.

Your Liverpool friend is deluded

Chelsea are really going for it aren't they? They've already got Kante and Jorginho. Add these two and that's a great midfield right there. And then there's loads of squad players there like Drinkwater, Barkley, Kovacic, Loftus-Cheek (injured) and Van Ginkel (injured). Bit jealous really. We could do with some depth in midfield. McT isn't good enough and Pereira and Fred need to step up. When one of Pogba/Matic/Herrera is injured we've got a problem.
Yeah they have a great midfield indeed. Two DMs with bench players like Drinkwater, Barkley, Van Ginkel (?). Loftus Cheek has shown some promise but is not consistent enough atm, don't how Kovacic is doing but since he's on the bench moat of the time, I'm guessing not great. How does adding another DM in Parades(who is very similar to Jorginho) and an unproven B2B who is a bit more attacking version of Kante going to make their midfield great ?
There's zero creativity up front and no goal threat.

We need maybe one CM to support Matic / eventually replace him and we have a very good midfield provided Fred steps up. If not we might need a Herrera backup / replacement

Your Liverpool colleague is full of crap.

We’ll soon see. We have a better team than you when we are actually allowed to play football, nice draw against Southampton.

You haven't been watching us at all, have you?

I don't see France Football as a reliable source when it comes to transfers. It's a good paper with good long articles and interviews but they are not really the breaking news type of paper.

If he was our youth talent, he would be starting games regularly and thus wouldn't even think of leaving.

Imagine us selling Rashford 2 years ago. That's basically what Chelsea are doing. I would much rather not have the money.

Chelsea need attacking players, so if all they are going to do is sell Hudson-Odoi and bring in a couple new midfielders to replace Fabregas I'm fine with that.

If he goes to Bayern he won’t be back anytime soon. They don’t sell and will give him a 5 year contract.

Every transfer window people say this but forget so many transfers they fail to complete or complete on deadline day. It's just that we read every transfer rumor related to ManUtd.

Exactly what I wanted to post.

We need to get our house in order before a scattergun approach of signing random players. There is no promise that Paredes or whoever will be a hit here anyway.

This isn't Football Manager. We need a structure, a plan of action and players that will fit into the new DoF's/new manager's style of play.

If for example we were to get Pochettino, he might not want Paredes. Yet we'll get people in here throwing hissyfits because we haven't got a shiny new toy to play with.

We signed Di Maria, Sanchez, Mata, Falcao and none of them have delivered. It's time to change strategy.

You haven't been watching us at all, have you?
Oh I haven't watched you guys play for a single second but despite being utter shite for most of the season, we are just 6 points behind you after beating 'a bunch of relegation candidates'. That kind of paints a picture for me.
And BTW, Southampton are 18th, so I guess beating relegation candidates is not as easy as it sounds.

For that money he would be better than lingard surely is he?

Desperate we are. It's an interesting transfer and still far from the last piece of the puzzle. I'd say it's actually the first piece of the defensive puzzle we need to put together.

They're still awaiting a decision from FIFA regarding his appearances for Chelsea in the Community Shield and Chelsea U23's, if FIFA rule that they count as official matches he wouldn't be able to play for Wolves until next season. If they don't I wouldn't be surprised to see Wolves come back in for him.

True, we keep being told our players are on too much wages to shift them out the door yet the likes of Liverpool can get £19m for a striker who cant score and his salary demands when leaving Chelsea were over £50k a week. I think we are just poor at negotiating.

That's not really his point is it? Vidic for example had a torrid start to English football, he wasn't an instant hit. We kind of do need an instant hit, we're a mess back there.

Why would he go to Liverpool and why would we let them outbid us. Behave.
