Solskjaer can only make loan signings in January

Its absurd that anyone would think he'd have any major say in anything anyway. The whole point of the change is to get away from a manager depicting who should be brought in and instead getting in players that fit what we need and getting a coach to coach said players.

Henrik Larsson.

Bit of an ask expecting a 47 year old to play for United!

We need to get rid of players and get in a DoF.

That's the longer term goal. Addressing needs of the team for the remainder of the season is essential. Limiting a manager of a club aspiring to champions league qualification isn't the correct way to do things. Team has needs that should be addressed sooner rather than later. We're not getting a quality option on loan.

Regardless, it's foolish buys players before we've signed a DOF.

We've managed for well over a century without one. We have a great scouting system and it shouldn't be beyond any expectation to sign a player to play a specific role and improve the team. It pretty essential the club plays champions league football next season, otherwise we're going to handicap the new director and manager straight off the bat.

So who decides who we sign?

To be fair it would be irresponsible to give an interim manager a transfer budget.

Until Ole is appointed full time or we make a full time appointment transfers should be off the table.

So who decides who we sign?

Chief scout, Ole, Carrick. Club employs people to make decisions. Or we can carry on and not strengthen key areas as we don't trust those who make the decisions.
No new Director or manager is going to change the entire squad and even I could pick a few players who'd suit the clubs target manager, I'm certain there are better judges within the club already than myself. If we're going back to no value in the market stuff, then good luck to Ole, he'll need it.

No in the summer when they didn't back the then manager, that was irresponsible. If some player becomes available who'd improve the team, then the club should move for them regardless. Plenty of clubs change their managers frequently and don't put transfers on back burner. If a player fits the style of football you're aiming for you go for him. We have enough scouts, who've done many in depth reports of many players. They advise any manager we get. So they also advise the club itself.

We don't need anyone in January, we just the players we have to stay fit and rediscover something approaching their best, if we can tie DDG and Martial down in that time then great.

To see us drop £60 million + on a couple of players in January without a DOF and permanent manger would be the sort of thing we'd be expected to do, becasue we have been stupid, but hopefully we have finally learnt our lesson.

I'm not that bothered about a signing.
Well, we've got a month to look at the squad anyway.

With Ole just being an interim, the only players coming in should be recognised, big budget players.
The only real type of player that will fit everybodies system is a defender really, yet we need to offload a few really.

I'd say give some of the young lads a go, Gomes, Greenwood etc, even if it's 15mins here and there.
Last night would have been perfect with 15mins to go as the game was done.

Lets see what Lindelof, Dalot, Shaw, Fred, Matic, Sanchez, Lukaku and co can do in a more attacking system and then judge from there

We have a bloated squad, so many players that would need more minutes, besides the youngsters

Loan with option to buy. The DoF or full time manager can then decide.

Why would a club give interim manager a transfer budget and potentially have to move them on along with potentially a bunch of other players in 6 months. Good decision.

Is this the same source that ran with the headline that Jose would be sacked at 7 pm after the Newcastle game? The mirror isn't worth wiping dog shit off your shoes

I agree it would be stupid to sign players in january now. What Solskjaer wants and what the new manager wants might be 2 completely differeng things - and besides, history has shown that players signed in january usually don't produce anything good for us until after the summer. I would maybe make an exception if injuries forced us to do it, but out injury situation is really good with no long-term injuries.

Of course we have a bloated squad.
But if we're 3-0 up or whatever with 15mins to go, I'd rather see Angel Gomes come on than Fellaini.
We know what one can do, the other, he may take his opportunity like Sancho.

I'm not saying every match, but we could give them a few opportunities

Can't see us making any signings tbh as I think the club would like to see how the players play under this regime before making any assessment. I'm sure the club still plans for a new manager to come in, and use the money to sign his own players. Also since Jose has gone, I'm sure some might not be as eager to go....

It would be ridiculous for Ole to sign anyone other than loan signings.

We have a huge squad and unless the signings are a 'Woodward signing' then we won't bring anyone in, simple as that.

Ole has said everyone's slate is clean and they'll all get chances, this will give us plenty of time to fully assess the squad and see who's not needed going forward into the 19/20 season.

We don't have any pressure on us as we're 8 points off top 4 and everyone has written off any chance of us finishing there. The board now have a great opportunity to sort out the structure and put a plan in place for the next 5 years to get us back to the top.

He also said the club have been looking at targets.

I'd be surprised if we end up signing anyone in January. The loan policy could be a sensible one to adopt if we do go into the market but I kind of doubt the credibility of those reports.

The nature of the Solskjaer appointment means the pressure is essentially off for the second half of the season. It's difficult to see us sanctioning a deal for anyone unless a bizarre set of circumstances come about, and like Ole said, there's still a lot of quality in this squad.

Just keep the powder dry and lets see what can be gotten out of this squad that I think has only been allowed to operate at 60-70% or so of it's potential right now. The only buy that would make sense is a top CB and that would be hard to do in January while the player wouldn't even know who his manager is going to be next season.

Like clockwork!

If Juve are willing to stump up £60M I'd take it and get Jovic in on that cheap buyout.

okies. I'm a full on transfer Muppet, but I could never quite work myself up into a tizzy for an above average Premier League striker.

Lets give them Lukaku, Darmian and a trillion quid for Dybala - now that would unite Kermit enthusiasts all across the globe

Seeking Lukaku for only a £20m loss would be a dream. Do it Woody.

They'll offer something like £60m. I think Lukaku will improve a lot now that Mourinho is gone. However, I'd say a straight swap for Dybala would be good business.
I'd definitely be interested if Dybala was part of the deal, but otherwise I really hate us losing money on big - even failed - purchases. Lukaku isn't yet a failure though I don't think - hopefully you're right that he will improve now Jose is gone.
