Why did clubs vote to close our window early ffs we all knew someone would end up with their player being tapped up after the window for signing a replacement has closed, looks like it will be us with Pogba

Why did the clubs vote for transfer window to be shortened in the WC year is the real question .

Is the life ambition of every Journalist in England to bash united at every possible opportunity? !!
Hope we win the fecking league this year with Pogba at the heart of everything.

fecking hell, Luckhurst isn't even trying anymore.

"United ended their search for a midfield signing this summer following Marouane Fellaini's contract extension, having already deemed Lazio's Sergej Milinkovic-Savic as too expensive."

No mention of Fred at all, or the impressive preseason Pereira had.

I think it is. If we were in a race with Everton and we really wanted Mina, Everton wouldn’t have a chance. We’d just match their offer.

United is rich, it doesn’t mean it’s senseless. I’m pretty sure there are instances in which we show interest in a player to reinforce the squad, and their demands are not aligned with what we consider them to be worth, and that maybe other clubs are/would be willing to pay them. In fact, that’s likely to be a more regular scenario than Woodward/United pressing a “match their offer” button in his office every time some decent player comes to the negotiation table saying abc clubs are willing to pay them xyz.

"Leicester expect United to make a late bid for Maguire and they value the England defender at £65 million. They have prepared for the possibility of his departure by agreeing deals to sign Caglar Soyuncu, from Freiburg, and Filip Benkovic, of Dynamo Zagreb, for a combined £33.5 million but Claude Puel will still bring in both players even if Maguire remains at the club."

Sounds promising.

Sign both him and Toby. That makes an average summer look decent.

Spending near enough 100m on CB's with the state of the rest of our squad wouldn't sit well with me at all.
Same. In an ideal world we would get one of them and a right winger at this point. But that's not going to happen.

I'd assume Leicester would allow this to happen on deadline day to ensure Maguire doesn't play against them.

If that is true, it looks like a deal for Maguire might be agreed. I'd be pleased, but can he play RW?

That would be ideal if Jose is moving to a back 3, although we would have to ship out 2 centre backs at the club for that to happen.

Don’t think we have enough time!

Ridiculous state of affairs.

Utd's problems are not with their defending, arguably it's down to the coach's emphasis on defending. I doubt many fans feel another central defensive signing is going to improve Utd and if Woodward does sign is deadline day targets the net spend will exceed Guardiola's (£90m shortfall at present, www.transfermkt.co.uk) and to what end?

The problem's Utd have are not with their defending and yet if the coach does not get the players he wants he becomes a dead-man walking and a crisis develops.

The only feasible target seems to be Alderweireld but this is a player who is 29 and coming off a serious injury. This is not a player who you could rush through a medical. I think if a deal is not in place by midday then that's it. A deal for Maguire could be done tomorrow as he has no injury concern I am aware of although I'd be shocked if Leicester sell him.

It's looking like a CB or bust for us. I'd take either of Alderweireld of Maguire. Would constitute an average window all told.

Thankfully it’s my birthday today so I won’t manage to check the Cafe much because the next day and a half is gonna be hellish, every muppet for himself. Just hope we get Toby over the line with one more. Unrealistic, but it is my birthday so I can wish

Neither signing addresses the issues with the team but it would stave off an immediate managerial crisis.

Utd board dithered and are now paying the price. They either waste tens of millions on yet another defender which is not needed or they effectively call time on the manager leaving him exposed as a manager without the confidence of his board.

I hope it is a CB and an RW. Gave up on a new LB this window a long time ago. A CB and a surprise RW would save the transfer window

I'm confused now, I get Toby, Bonucci and even Boateng signing because I reckon Mourinho wants some more experience in the back line, but how does McGregor fit in there?

Jose seems to want a ball playing defender, which they all are.

Twatter diarrhoea. Shite enough crap out and he may get one of them right sometime.

It is about time we banned shite like this. "Sources" should prove themselves before they are allowed on and relegated if they keep BSting. "Oh he's legit, he got x,y,z right" which when you actually look back they were not the first to break out or even among the first. People getting credit for no reason at all.
