Crazy amount to pay for a hitherto unknown keeper. On the plus side it pushes De Gea to a minimum 150.

Actually it completely and permanently brings to an end all De Gea speculation. With Courtois moving to Madrid, it's now all but certain that De Gea will never play for Real in his career.

Totally agree! Still baffled that we have not signed a LB.

He did say Young will play 50 games next season, and that he will not be signing another player in attack. It seems he just sees CB as a priority, and feels happy with his FBs and attack. He said we will not be signing too many players, and 3 players was the target if Fellaini stayed. We have got 2, if we get another that will be all the signings he wanted, at least according to his own comments last season.

"It is a familiar tactic with Europe's elite: If you have a luxury to flog, United are the suckers to target."

Most of that article is complete gash, but the above quote is 100% true. Sadly.

Oh yeah? Like who? Schweinsteiger was bad, but it’s not like one player paints a picture and it goes for all clubs.

Tell me about it. The Gaffer always knew what he wanted and would make life hell for the Kenyons and Gills of the world if plans didn't materialize.

Many fans seem to have forgotten this part of Sir Alex. Jose moans a bit in his own miserable way to get Woodie moving and some fans turn on him.

Well Young aint good enough. He cant defend really well and he aint left footed so he cannot cross direct into the box so he has to stop THEN cross with his right foot but then the runs into the box has already stopped.

His age also is a concern, how can we be sure he is up for 50 matches.

Thankfully it’s my birthday today so I won’t manage to check the Cafe much because the next day and a half is gonna be hellish, every muppet for himself. Just hope we get Toby over the line with one more. Unrealistic, but it is my birthday so I can wish

Happy birthday mate. I wish you a splendid day and many happy years ahead.

A warning though. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT, move near the caf today otherwise, this birthday might become the most miserable you have ever had! The state of this place in the next 24 hours? I don't even want to imagine it. Take a break, enjoy your day and come back on Friday morning.

Would it be fair to say that Woodward hasn't really fecked up a window since his first one when we got Fellaini? I mean last Summer wasn't entirely ideal but it was alright.

I mean when you think of it that way, you gotta think he has something up his sleeve, but it's just so late in the day.

Because he couldn't defend? He was slower than an oil tanker and weak as piss.
Really not true. I never actually saw him get bullied even against Lukaku.

His lack of height was what Jose didn't like.

I agree, just pointing out that our manager does not. Everyone is baffled why we did not sign two FBs to replace our current ones, but Jose just does not see it as a priority. He is satisfied with the ones he has.

Did he even feck that one up, or was it Moyes acting the dithering cnut?

Or he has a budget and has to adhere to it.

I think you're right. Didn't we, allegedly I suppose, have some deals lined up that he pulled the plug on? I'm sure Kroos has been mentioned but I don't know if it's true.

When the summer was just starting and rumors were yet to really develop, were you guys thinking that you'd be after CB's as your main targets? Was it an area that you were all really clamouring for? If I recall correctly United conceded by far the fewest goals out of the top 6 and were very solid defensively.

You guys being hell bent on splashing huge money on a new CB feels to me like when City or Liverpool go after yet another attacking midfielder when they're already perfectly set in those areas.

Well Dalot looks promising tho so hoping he makes the RB his own but still leaves us one short!

Compare our fulllbacks Young/Valencia with City for example Walker/Mendy i feel the difference is HUGE and when you see us playing so narrow last year the need for class fullbacks is so OBVIOUS mate!

We do need a consistent CB pairing to be honest. It's one area of our spine that is lacking. Bailly hasn't stayed fit and Lindelof still not settled so someone who can be a mainstay and play the ball out is pretty important for me.

Obviously other areas to improve but still a key part of the puzzle

Our current lot are far away from rendering us perfectly set and there is indeed a lot of room for improvement but I didn’t think it was a priority.

I’d say we need a right winger more than anything, after that a left back, then probably a backup striker before we even contemplated a centre back.

I’d still happily take an upgrade on any position though as is logical, I think Alderweireld and Maguire are both better than what we have currently but I’d have much preferred us to prioritise the right wing.

I would have assumed we would sign a centre back, but not like this, and certainly not the #1 target for much of the window.

Or he is happy with what he has, as he himself has stated. No way will he stay quiet if he wanted FBs as desperately as many people here want.

Guy can’t win either way guess you won’t find out till he does a book later in his career.

Again, I agree but Jose does not. Our FBs seem to do what he asks them to do well enough that he does not see them as too much of a problem. I don't think I have ever heard him criticize them in his time here.

Well, if he was not happy he should not have made those comments. I don't care what he says about in his book afterwards, everything currently indicates that he is happy with his FBs. After all, if he does fail, he certainly won't blame himself. When has he ever ??
