Buy Maguire now, get Aderweireld next season, get rid of Jones and Rojo and one of either Smalling, Lindelof or Baily.

I'm coming around on the idea of signing MacGyver but would still prefer Alderweireld. Hope that story is true.

I would be actually OK with us selling Jones and Rojo for 50-60 million combines and buying Maguire now and Toby in the Winter window for a combined fee of say 100 mill. Big upgrade on the defense by spending a net of 40 million

If we had any sense we'd be all over this and send Martial the other way.

Ideally we'd buy him irrespective of Martial, but unfortunately that isn't going to happen under this manager.

Where Pep is overloading his attacking options, Jose seems to want the opposite by having more defenders than he needs.

Ok I just get the impression he isn't someone who comes out with factual transfer reports.
He is/was one of the journos that gets briefed by the club, but that doesn't mean the news he gets is reliable. He also puts his opinions out a lot on twitter that many other "reliable" journos wouldn't do, so he gets a fair bit of stick for it.

If it was for me I would take Maguire. He is younger, he had a very good premier league season and a superb world cup, and above all that he is a monster in set pieces, he will be a tremendous threat in set pieces.

I for one seriously cannot wait for more overly defensive football next season :nervous:

Are we definitely not pursuing a RW now then? Its all being dominated by Mcguire and Toby...

Imo the real pressure for Klopp only gonna come with us winning the league otherwise I can’t see your fans making too much of the fuss if you’re playing well and ranging from 2-4th place while we’re struggling.

Fans are driven by emotions and seeing us lift the trophy again would make their patience much thinner.

Probably true. I reckon as long as we are competitive at the top end and mount something that looks like a challenge for the league and/or CL, the season will be passed.

No idea on the latter mate, my gut feeling is that we are getting Willian and Chelsea are getting Pulisic in to replace him, which would be thoroughly depressing.

Why not spend the Maguire money on this guy?

Our problem is not the centre backs.

He's not ready yet, he's still a teenager who's just had a patchy season. It'd be like Rashford going to R.Mardid to slot into the starting XI and replace Ronaldo. Slightly exaggerated, but you get the point. The level of expectation, especially after such costly move would be huge.

Next summer, depending on how his season goes, he might be an interesting one to examine.

Would represent very good business

Yeah for sure. I just prefer those 70M going to fix more serious issues, like left back, right back or right winger.

Well sounds like we're trying to get Willian so the RW situation is irrespective of the CB. As to why we're not buying a LB but a CB instead, that's down to Mourinho.

What goods that when most 95% of our set pieces fail to beat the first man or wall?
