The other understated appeal of Spurs of course, is the lack of pressure versus the other big clubs. You can be in and around it at the top of the league, but no one expects them to win anything. Therefore, it's the ultimate no lose scenario. Good set of lads, good money, nice football - not the magnifying lens pressure of a United.

Great point

Oh no. The most appeal aspect is the new stadium...

I'd take 200m. If he's not motivated to be here then that's a good price.
I'm sure you jest, but off the back of his World Cup, decent contract length, our lack of quality in MF and the state of the transfer market... I don't think it will be a million miles off that.

No actually I think that's the price we should be quoting them. And nothing less. Perfect age. Superstar profile. Already proven at Juve. And they first took him from us for free and then pocketed 90m. 200m sounds about right.

If there was any truth to it then Di Marzio would be all over it like a hot flannel. The mirror is clickbait trash

So even if your players are average (not saying Liverpool's are), but if you're fit and can ultra-press you'll give anyone a game? It's good to watch, the hunting in packs.

They can want away. There’s zero chance we’re selling him.

Tbf the Mail broke the Lukaku news last summer.
But the Mirror is worse. Its like a discount Sun.
I can't think of one story they've ever broken. At least The Sun get some scoops in between the nonsense. The Mirror are just there

Not only that I believe he's absolutely tremendous amongst ball playing defenders today. Even though he's being valued at 60m one need only to take a look at his last season for Leicester and just compare it to some of the best ball playing Central Defenders to realize there's perhaps great value even at that price.

Just to be clear because we'll compare his last to only their statistically best season. So there won't be any excuse for injuries or advancing age. And all the stats are per 90 minutes.

Harry Maguire - EPL - 2017-18 Leicester City
38 games - 3227 minutes

Total Forward Passes - 36.20
Key passes - 0.36
Chances created - 0.47
Dribbles completed - 1.31
Tackles won - 1.23
Aerial Duels won - 3.21
Interceptions - 1.31
Blocks - 0.73
Clearances - 4.7
Defensive errors - 0.03

Just to put into context how brilliant some of his on the ball stats are, especially chance creation and key passes even out of a comparatively lesser average forward passes per game, his remarkable Dribbles per game at 1.31 which absolutely destroys other ball playing centre backs.
Not only that his defensive and Aerial abilities more than match up and even surpass most elite players of his type.

Leonardo Bonucci - ISA - 2014-15 Juventus
34 games - 3015 minutes

Total Forward Passes - 47.43
Key passes - 0.30
Chances created - 0.30
Dribbles per game - 0.30
Tackes won - 0.90
Aerial Duels won - 1.25
Interceptions - 1.94
Blocks - 0.87
Clearances - 5.16
Defensive errors - 0.09

Leonardo Bonucci is rightly considered one of the best Ball playing centre backs around, but across a full season widely considered his best, his chance creation, key passes all fall short of Maguire's. In fact out of the remaining comparisons he's the only one who comes close. His dribbling and Aerial ability had no match for Maguire's. He also made less Tackles showing Maguire's superiority in covering wider areas and going to the ground. Where Maguire does fall short is Interceptions and blocks. But not by a lot and it certainly bears in mind who he is being compared to.

Mats Hummels - Bundesliga - 2017-18 Bayern Munich
23 games - 1942 minutes

Total Forward Passes - 66.83
Key passes - 0.19
Chances created - 0.23
Dribbles per game - 0.51
Tackes won - 1.76
Aerial Duels won - 2.92
Interceptions - 2.36
Blocks - 0.46
Clearances - 2.46
Defensive errors - 0.05

Another elite ball playing centre back, one in his prime, Hummels attempted a ridiculous 66.83 forward passes but his key passes, chances created and dribbled completed stats pale in front of Maguire's.
While impressive in the air he also falls short of his Aerial Duels per game tally. Keeping in mind he has played almost half the minutes Maguire has and these numbers tend to go down as you approach the 3000 minutes mark, it must be said he has significantly better Tackles, Blocks, Interceptions. He does again have lesser Clearances probably more importantly showcasing the gulf in the teams Maguire and Hummels play for than anything.

Sergio Ramos - La Liga - 2016-17 Real Madrid
28 games - 2487 minutes

Total Forward Passes - 51.39
Key passes - 0.22
Chances created - 0.22
Dribbles per game - 0.22
Tackes won - 1.16
Aerial Duels won - 2.50
Interceptions - 2.17
Blocks - 0.58
Clearances - 3.55
Defensive errors - 0.11

The season before last was one of the few recent seasons that Real Madrid have won the La Liga in. Ramos had comfortably his best season at Cb in 16-17. Yet his stats in every single aspect fall short of Maguire's. All except Interceptions.

Vincent Kompany - Pl - 2013-14 Manchester City
28 games - 2362 minutes

Total Forward Passes - 36.24
Key passes - 0.15
Chances created - 0.19
Dribbles per game - 0.65
Tackes won - 1.75
Aerial Duels won - 1.22
Interceptions - 2.13
Blocks - 0.53
Clearances - 5.56
Defensive errors - 0.11

One thing clear from these comparisons is that Maguire even with the most minutes and games on the clock, still averaged vastly better chance creation, key passes, Dribbles completed. His forward passes can easily be explained by just pointing towards the quality of players in LCFC's midfield and defense (not to mention tactical approach) compared to all the elite players that the other defenders play with.

His defensive side while better than Bonucci and Ramos, does fall short compared to Kompany and Hummels. What is top of the class is his heading ability. With only Hummels coming close.
He also made the least Defensive errors compared to the rest.
:) great post thank you

Pogba wanting to go back to Juventus Just feels like bullshit to me. To play with Ronaldo? Why didn’t he insist on a Madrid move two years ago in that case?

You don't get the 200m and I doubt it'd be made available as transfer funds. More likely to be Glazer money

Best to keep Pogba, eh?

Which is it, the not getting the money or not having it to spend? If we sold for that price we'd either reinvest and carry on like an ambitious club or Mourinho would have a fit, get sacked and we'd hire a yes-man. I think the former is a lot more likely.

I mean you personally won't get the 200m, so as a fan it's really not worth worrying how much we pay or receive.

I think the much more likely option is that it wouldn't get invested, Mourinho would make a lot of cryptic comments without ever actually outright saying what's on his mind and we'll have lost a brilliant player for no reason.

Right, a club that managed to buy Neymar and Mbappe thinks a deal for Martial is too complicated. Are we asking them to sit a fecking exam?
Difference being they actually wanted Neymar and Mbappe. Why would they pay 80m for a player they don't really need when they already have FFP issues?

Nah Luckhurst and Castles were first to say that Jose wanted Lukaku.
Were they? Fairly sure Matt Lawton of the Mail broke the news when we agreed a deal with Everton. I also remember Jackson of the Guardian saying in a podcast a month before the signing that the player Mourinho really wanted was Lukaku, even though every other journo was saying that we were close to getting Morata at the time.
But the Mirror is worse. Its like a discount Sun.

Well, I'd say it's also about the journo rather than just the paper. There are definitely some at the Mirror who get briefed things (McDonnell for instance).
