Their frame of reference is video games. Money takes equal footing with what happens on the pitch.

What's weirder is that many will care deeply about transfer related finances, but not about sponsorships or gate receipts. It all comes into the same pot.

I prefer to think about the football rather than the accountancy. You'd might as well support Coca-Cola or McDonald's if that's your schtick.
Spot on.

Truly baffling why people care about prices when its not there own money.

Because fans know how football works and know there's only a limited amount of money their team is going to spend. Thus is the club vastly overpays for a player, and it leaves less money as a result to improve the team, they have to watch their side be a bit shitter than they otherwise could be.

This is why fans care about money, because it directly impacts the quality of the team, not because they care about the books.

Not a difficult concept to grasp, to be honest.

As a fellow American who has followed Pulisic closely I agree that he's pretty overrated. He's a nice, solid player but the way so many fans of PL clubs are desperate to sign him is way over the top. He's not near top class yet and certainly not a £70m player (in terms of ability, marketing maybe so).

VVD is world class, Allisson is world class, Keita is world class, Mane, Firmino and Salah are world class, Klopp is world class. But don't you dare criticize Liverpool for not winning anything. Such is the life of a liverpool fan.
Half of those players haven't even played a season for us yet. Bit harsh to expect them to have won something for us already.

Out of interest, how many more seasons of attractive football and big spending would you tolerate of Klopp without winning anything?

Spoke to some of my colleagues who are Liverpool fans and they were hopeful for the new season but said they would probably want a new manager if it was another trophyless year.

Depends how close we get and what the alternatives are.

LVG signing mate. Also involved loaning Nani to Sporting for a season while paying most of his wages too if I recall correctly.

Yeah dude thanks I know he is a LVG signing but was not aware he was on 160k (if true).

Funding Pulisic with Willian/Michy departures make it more appealing :D

You dont have any idea what the club can and cant do though. So whats the point in worrying.

Imo the real pressure for Klopp only gonna come with us winning the league otherwise I can’t see your fans making too much of the fuss if you’re playing well and ranging from 2-4th place while we’re struggling.

Fans are driven by emotions and seeing us lift the trophy again would make their patience much thinner.

Fans have no idea how much money is there to be spent, which is a rather large hole in your theory.

This, if we paid 200m for Harry Kane of course that means other areas in need of improvement would be overlooked.

Getting Zlatan in meant we could get PP.

Shocked that some of you don't understand something so simple

It's a very difficult concept, honestly, to grasp unless these individuals:
1. Understand all the financial aspects of the club and therefore have any idea whatsoever regarding expenditure capability
2. Have some objective empirical measure of a players value
3. Have any business, football or financial expertise
4. Did not see actual football as Fifa or Champ Manager
5. Didn't think that displaying horror/hilarity at prices paid for players, or made up by some twitter imbecile, counts as discussion on a football forum

Or how the deals are structured.

If the club is about to 'do a Leeds', then fair enough, start worrying. Otherwise, the only relevant thing for us is whether or not the player is good enough. If yes, great, get him in. If not, steer clear, regardless of how "cheap" he supposedly is.

Do you apply the same logic to sales, so if someone offers £1m for Darmian and Rojo we should just let them go?

Well "we", as fans, aren't going to be doing anything. If the club thinks the best deal they can get for Darmian is £1m, and that's the only way to get him out the door, then I don't see why we fans should have any problem with it, given that the player isn't near good enough or worth keeping around.

As it happens, I imagine he'll go for about fifteen times that amount.

Which is fine, but then when the board say there's no money for the next 'must have' signing in January (for example) because we didn't get what we wanted on sales (or overpaid on purchases) the fans would have to accept it.

Good lad. I was expecting him to do that, seen as the other BVB stars are never allowed to leave unless either teams pay close to world record fees for them (Demeble) or they run their contract down (literally everyone in the last 10 years).

We should go in for him next year, he should be available under 50m and as others have said he’s a United fan and an American, which is huge commercially

Can't really imagine the club actually saying that!

Very true.

I couldn't care less what the club does, they are far more knowledgeable and qualified to look after there finances than I am.

if that means getting rid of their wages why not? we could end up getting more for them but with a deal that we pat their current wages till the end of their contract with us. which could be worse financially

They were told to feck off, so they’re now running the story that we didn’t want him anyways.

Terrible, as Isco is not on the same planet as Hazard

Suspect they baulked at the fee Chelsea wanted which is fair enough. The day and age of Madrid getting exactly what they want is gone.
