Van dijk is world class

He made loads of mistakes when he joined Liverpool. Your defending will still be a joke next season and you’ll have to hope Allison settles in straight away or nothing will change.
Goalies tend to need a season or two before they fully settle.

"I want to play more regularly. Last season, I didn't play much -- that's my objective and my ambition. That's why I spoke with the manager and also with the club about my future. I want to leave but we will see what happens because we don't know."

I find this very reassuring .

We were also rans in a poor scramble of sides playing for the top 4 spots all the while playing the dullest, most soul destroying football of any team in the league, I don't call that progress personally, but each to their own.

Indeed, each to their own.

Do we not have a buy-back clause for Zaha? Could do worse.

(Then again I think Martial is far superior to Zaha)

Think they are both massively talented, something seems to be missing with both though. I wonder what happened with Zaha with us, looked excellent in preseason, I wonder what happened off the pitch or on the training ground though as didnt he literally play two or three times.....admittedly everytime he was utterly awful but he really never got the chance to develop here at all

Yeah, if Palace get an offer we can have him back by matching that price.

That only applies if Zaha is willing to come back, but why would he be when he can stay in London and avoid Mourinho?

To be fair, although I think they massively overpaid for both players fee wise, they kind of are getting value for money. Liverpool defensively were atrocious until they signed him. I don tthink he is world class, but he is a very good defender and the difference defensively was evident, they went from atrocious to decent and that helped them reach the CL final and do well in the premiership the second half of the season
Now they have signed a keeper who is I think isnt far off world class but probably outside the best 10 keepers in the world......but massively improves there weakest area on the pitch in Karius/Mignolet. Allison, Arnold, Gomez, Dyke, Robertson is certainly a million miles better than they were 18 months ago even though it may lack consitency with the youngsters.

Was he also impressed with your training facilities like Martial ?

Who knows. What we do know is that he wasn't very impressed with MUFC …. and probably even less so now that he sees Martial's downward spiral.

Not at that price. Ridiculous. I hope we don’t
Lots of people said the same about VVDs fee and now werewhappy to
In no world or galaxy is he world-class, where the hell is this coming from all of a sudden!? He is way to complacent to be regarded in the same class as the great ones. Too busy waiving his arms and pointing fingers at others, he is a good header and a decent passer - average at everyting else. Too late into challenges, going for balls that are not his to go after and too arrogant for sure, just look at City’s goal in the CL when he refs the game himself. On top of that, he looks like a drug dealer.
He's one of the best in the world today.

He's not worth nearly that much.
Of course he is. One of the world's 5 best players, in his prime, 2 years left on his contract, and only 2 weeks left in the window. They want him then we should surely demand Neymar money.

2 weeks till English transfer window close, not Spanish. Chelsea may play hard ball, but Madrid can influence Hazard which can be costly for Chelsea season. Hazard showed that it's not above him to go through motion a whole season. Is Chelsea strong enough to gamble in this situation or compromise for decent fee and find reinvest?

150 would be the outer limits of what they offer imo. He's not going to provide anything they don't already have there.

"Although Rojo only signed a new three-and-a-half-year deal in March, worth £160,000-a-week, that was done chiefly to protect his market value, with United wanting up to £30m for him."

Im quite sure we are getting William for half of that. Papers are always doubling up Manchester United fees.

Usually I would agree, but you are talking about buying from a relatively rich competing club. They aren't over stocked on the right so would need a replacement and same predicament as us in that there are not a lot of options.

The only question is do Chelsea strategize on a longer term plan, I.e. cycle out old talent on big money and bring in fresh talent for longer term stability.

A path which arguably we should consider too. Older players who are supposed to be proven haven't exactly fared any better.

Di Maria pretty poor, Falcao irrelevant, Mhki supposed to be at peak and yet was pretty average. Schweni was well past it.

Whoever you sign is a gamble, but for me better a gamble with value upside than guaranteed downside.

Ok there is the flip of upside winning trophies, but Willian and Alderweireld are unlikely to be the difference between winning the Premiership or not and certainly not the CL.

We have a reasonable core of young talent with a fair few older experienced heads. I think quality in the 20-26 zone is ideally what we want. I only count Maguire in that if it's a fair exchange, I.e. we get say £30m for Rojo and then Maguire at £60m might not seem such an unreasonable jump. Or say Jones at £40m.

Similarly if we cut out Martial, we really want someone else with potential, but maybe a better/ fresher attitude and better balance, I.e. RW. And for that swap it needs to be balanced. Martial has actually got a decent record of goals and assists in the Prem and has plenty of potential to reach the top so that can't go cheaply.
