Roma will sign Bailey and sell him for triple the price in a year or two. So predictable. Those are the kind of transfers we’re really missing out on and why a DoF would help us a great deal.

Tbh I don't mind buying players a bit more mature at 24-25, rather than as young as 20, even if it requires paying way more. The risk of them not developing as expected is rather high and the pressure heaped on their shoulders to deliver in the EPL and CL is huge. Especially under our current manager who is quite uncompromising in the sense that he requires a lot of maturity, dedication and patience from the young players while not being very protective and encouraging of them. So I think us skipping someone like Bailey would be good for both sides.

That said I don't like us signing too many 30yo players. It smacks a bit of short-termism and even though we've been starved of success recently and that has changed some opinions, I liked that under Fergie we always built with an eye for the future. We might have poached the occasional 29-30yo from our rivals (RVP springs to mind) but it was a rather rare thing. We've been trying to buy Willian and Alderweireld this window to add to the Matic-Sanchez purchases while Young and Valencia are still starters. That'd be quite an old core which might deliver the success we all crave but will certainly require surgery in ~3 years time at huge costs.

Knows the league, knows the club. Why not? How does he compres to Willian?
I agree. I think we should be looking at him rather than a 29 year old Willian. He was Sir Alex last ever signing as United boss. Sir Alex could pick em and I think we should bring him back.

United aren't looking for players who will use United as a stepping stone AND become a sell on player. Roma can afford to give Bailey more playing time in a comfortable situation where Roma in Serie A. It's so cut throat in the Premier League that paying these huge amounts for young players who are not mentally proven to handle the pressure is a massive gamble. If United were more established with quality players around a player like Bailey, then it would be worth considering.

The standards of defending have definitely declined if VvD is considered world class.

VVD is world class, Allisson is world class, Keita is world class, Mane, Firmino and Salah are world class, Klopp is world class. But don't you dare criticize Liverpool for not winning anything. Such is the life of a liverpool fan.

So far today I've read that both Ashley Young and Van Dijk are world class. That term really has become so ridiculously overused

More like being misused.

Overused IMO is like unjust praise on meh performance of world class player, as world class.

I think lots of people are just idiots. World Class is a rather self explanatory term. Someone that is in the same class as the world's best.

Anyone that thinks VVD is among the world's best in his position is smoking some hardcore drugs.

From what I'm reading in Madrids press (AS & Marca), between the lines ofc, it's not even clear if they feel the need to sign a galactico. There is a coherent case to support the narrative that they changed transfer strategy over the years, too.

Van dijk is world class

In no world or galaxy is he world-class, where the hell is this coming from all of a sudden!? He is way to complacent to be regarded in the same class as the great ones. Too busy waiving his arms and pointing fingers at others, he is a good header and a decent passer - average at everyting else. Too late into challenges, going for balls that are not his to go after and too arrogant for sure, just look at City’s goal in the CL when he refs the game himself. On top of that, he looks like a drug dealer.

Ducking hate transfer windows

Should be a limit on squad size

The whole thing is rediculous

I would take William her but 75m seriously?

And maguire is no better than our current crop IMO I would take him for 12m last season. We are so broken in our transfer dealings

In my opinion we’re buying players that don’t improve our first eleven. Spending £150m on Willian and Maguire is ridiculous. Willian is Lingard and Mata’s level. Maguire is Smalling’s level.

Bad business. Better off buying Ronaldo rather than these two.

The Willian transfer fee keeps on going up. Tomorrow it'll be 80m and we'll eventually have to get a small loan to fund the transfer.

VVD is a good defender, very good even but world class? He's nowhere near that level nor is that his ceiling. Same with Maguire. Alderweireld is a lot better than both and IMO is just below the truly world class level.

El Tiempo and El espectador, our two biggest newspapers. But I take everything from the media with a pint of salt. Colombian media is not pretty reliable.

Maguire is a better passer, Mina is stronger and has more goals in him. I prefer Alderweilder over both of them (actually, I prefer him over both of them at the same time).

I have seen him while he was playing at Brazil. Solid defender, good long passes, not so good near passes. Strong, with a knack for goals, but not the best ball playing defender. I prefer him over Maguire, specially considering he is worth half the money, but my ideal CB is Toby.

Seeing how good Sanchez turned to be for Spurs, and how defenders get better with Mou, I’m hopeful if we sign Mina.

Dream CB summer strategy: Sell Jones, Smalling and Rojo. Buy Toby, Mina and Maguire... Never going to happen though.

I feel similar to you 3 of 4 cb should be moved out and two in, that would be ideal....and liek you say....wont happen

I would actually go for Zaha. I think he has matured now (in footballing terms).

What really annoys me is that he was a Manchester United player now being expected to leave for a huge amount of money. They want 70m for him and he could of been playing on he right wing for us. He should of been given a chance to develop with us. I’d take him right now.

It's doubtful that Zaha would want to return to United: once bitten, twice shy.

I think Spurs are interested, but whether it amounts to anything we shall see.
