The market was already inflated before we signed Van Dijk. Guardiola paid 50 million for Stones which bumped CB fees up, and that Neymar deal blew everything up.

I think Maguire is a decent CB but I didn’t think CB was an area United needed to spend at least 65 million on going into the window. Genuinely thought you’d end up signing Bale.

£50m was a bump up yes, £75m was an entirely different leap though.

60m willian or 40m Perisic. Unless there is a neither option, Perisic would be my choice

Moan moan fecking moan.

It's doing my head in. I hope we make no further signings just to give some of you something to actually moan about. feck me

Was picked in the world cup team of the tournament. Shut down a shit hot Salah.....i'd say that's world class. Just face it he's doing the business and playing well.
He wasn't, he was in a fake team of the year that someone created.

So then it’s United’s fault that we had to pay what we did for Keita, because you paid 89 million for Pogba?

It's important to understand the context.

1) Central midfielders of his mould are a rare commodity

2) He is world class

3) He was 23.

Liverpool bought an average 27 year old VVD for £75m.

That kind of deal inflates the market.

Please don’t tell me you think that Van Dijk is average but Maguire is an excellent CB? The stats show that Van Dijk’s arrival has improved our defence dramatically, so he’s definitely not average.

Liverpool's transfers were massively influenced by PSG buying Neymar and Barcelona using that money to buy Coutinho. They would have spent considerably less had Coutinho not been sold for a massively inflated fee.

You can blame PSG for the current state of transfers. The money injected into the game by them ended up in Southampton and RB Liepzig's pockets.

I think it’s hypocritical blaming any club for inflating the market when we hold the record transfer in the Premier League.

He's not world class. Surely you see the difference?

Big money has always been spent on the biggest prospects and talents. VVD is neither and you spent a world record fee for a defender on him.. £75m.

Now the market in that area is inflated. That's how it works.

He can do better than Wolves surely. In the Premier League alone Arsenal or Everton should be all over him, and he'd do well at somewhere like Roma.

Wolves are not that far from Everton. And I'm pretty sure he's not good enough for where Arsenal aspire to be (top 4).

English clubs pay better than foreign clubs in terms of salaries, with 10 or so exceptions that wouldn't touch Rojo with a barge pole. So Wolves is about right for me.

Fred, Dalot, Willian, Maguire + Sandro would be a perfect window.

If we get a reinvigorated Shaw instead of Sandro, all the better.

Yeah mate if Shaw regains his form, then props to Mourinho for not buying Sandro.
As for RB position Dalot/Valencia seems good enough. And also with Willain coming in we wont be relying solely on Valencia to put in crosses. Pretty good window if we can buy Willian and Maguire

Right but he’s not average. You know there’s a few grades in between the two right? He’s come in and immediately improved an area that we’ve struggled with for years. I’d argue that puts him in the very good bracket at least. He’s definitely one of the better CB’s in the league at the moment.

You just called him average which is wrong, but then you also said Pickford was better than Alisson so...

There is the fact we aren't a selling club like Liverpool (See Mash, Alonso, Suarez, Coutinho etc). But there is also the fact that we pay our squad players a ridiculous wage, which no other teams are willing to pay when we decide to get rid. This means we have to accept a much lower transfer fee to get them off the books or subsidise their wage, sometimes both.

Exactly. Please post this at the top of any thread about United selling players.

That wild speculation we all knew was BS was the most entertaining hour of the window so far.

So you tell me exactly how much money we have?
I've obviously no idea but if I had to guess, around the same as last year given that our recent profit forecast was lower than 16/17.
Certainly not enough to not worry about overpaying by £20m+ for players.

He's not world class or a young prospect. You overpaid massively and have inflated the market. Agreed?

I agree with this, also CIty paid big money for cb overseas as well the last few years which have inflated premiership prices for such signing from abroad. Just look at the fees for Otamendi, Mangala and Laporte compared to other prices paid for top cb in Europe not by premiership clubs.

The fee for Dyke was a result of both that and the fact SOuthampton were going to rinse them after all the tapping up. No wonder the Khoubillay fee was rejected (eve though think is was bs) as he is worth twice the price of Maguire or Dyke. Saying that, fees are irrelevant, signing Dyke was a great signing for Liverpool as it plugged there leaky defence, they would never have got to the cl final with the defence before they signed him, jsut like £65m is a crazy fee for Alisson who is a very good keeper but not in the top 5 or possibly 10 in the world for me.....but think how much of an imoprovement he makes over Mignolet and Karius, probably 10-15 point in itself over the season they have been so poor

I would be really happy with Willian and actually don't care about the pricetag. He is a superb player, who would fix our problems on the right wing straight away. His output isn't something that concerns me at all, as goals and assists don't paint the whole picture. All of us have seen him play countless times and I remember him bossing the game in the first half last season against us at Old Trafford, cutting through our midfield with ease. Some people claiming we could get player x for the same amount are wildely guessing and basing their information on some dubious newspaper headlines.

If we are really interested, I could see him making a similiar impact as Matic did. Most of the users on the Caf didn't want him as well and we know how that turned out. Give the managers the players he wants, everything else doesn't make any sense.

Completely agree. Everyone knows that we need a RW, badly, and while I usually really struggle to care in any way whatsoever what the club decides to pay for a player, I find myself caring even less right now. Just sign the man asap.

"I want to play more regularly. Last season, I didn't play much -- that's my objective and my ambition. That's why I spoke with the manager and also with the club about my future. I want to leave but we will see what happens because we don't know."

Not surprising that he wants to leave still even though he might get to play 2 games before sitting on the bench for the next 36.

Thank Christ. Get fecked.
