If bringing Perisic and Maguire meant transitioning to 3 at the back full time then yuck. I can’t stand it, an utterly useless way to line up against the large majority of teams. They can keep it in the turtle slow Serie A league and international tournaments.

I do agree in principle, as I hate 3 at the back.
It does take away the problem of no wide forwards though, with Sanchez preferring a central role.

@Tom Van Persie that article was posted last night. As for him not returning, if he did at most he'd be able to play in the one game against Real so he'll likely be training at Carrington with Lindelof and they'll play against Bayern. Mourinho said Martial told him he'd be going to Paris a few days ago.

When ours is as low as it is, it means FSG should be loosening the purse strings more than they are. We are spending quite less than "within our means".
Actually you’re spending a lot, it’s just that you’re good at getting high prices on your elite players. IF you hadn’t received a shit load of cash for Coutinho it would have been interesting to see what FSG would do

Agreed. We've no need for another below average defender that is terrified of the ball at his feet. He's exactly what United don't need.

Maguire is actually good with the ball at his feet. What I like most about him is not just his hard tackling but the fact that he is a sort of utility defender who has a tendency to drive forward with the ball and pick a decent pass. He chipped in impressive assists last season.

Straight swap for martial

A player turning 30 half way through next season whose game is based entirely on high energy, stamina and speed. He has maybe 3 years left in him.

Martial is 23 just before this.

Yes maybe some premium for Perisics current ability, versus Martials potential. But for me that 7 year age gap needs a sizeable additional premium. Perisic should be maybe £60m at the max and even that seems outrageous for someone with no resale value. That's £20m a season.

I'd want £40m cash plus Martial to make the deal a reasonable one. Either that or a straight swap, but with a reasonable buy back and 50% sell on clause.

Have you ever seen him play? You have no clue what you are saying!

I'm talking about Yerry Mina

Why are we not in for Pulisic? The kid is american, and would be very marketable over there. Not to mention he can play all over that midfield.

The Maguire signing suggests we will play 352 against top 6 and in the Champions League, there is no way at Old Trafford we will play that formation. It seems Jose will abandon the 4231 formation at home and play 4-1-2-3. The obvious scenario from our poor window so far is that Jose thinks he lost too many points to bottom half teams and will try and dominate the midfield by strangerling the opposition into submission with the emphasis on conceeding even less goals in the PL. Be prepared for a lot of 1-0 and 2-0 boring wins!

This may explain his obsession with 6 or 7 midfield players!

Home Team Formation;
D De Gea
A Valencia/D Dalot E Baily H Maguire A Young
N Matic/A Pereira
FRED P Pogba
J Lingard/M Rashford R Lukaku A Sanchez

CL/Top 6 Formation;
D De Gea

V Linderlof/E Bailly C Smalling/P Jones H Maguire

A Young/ J Lingard N Matic/A Herrera L Shaw

Fred/J Mata Pogba/ Feillani

Lukaku Sanchez/ M Rashford

Both those teams need more stardust so a Top 3 Finish and a Cup is probably what Jose is hoping for!

With the WC not long finished, I wonder if the PL clubs are regretting changing the transfer window close date this year. Would've made a lot more sense to do it next year with no tournament. Can see plenty of panic buys in next few weeks

Clueless.

Hoping you've messed that up. Paying £40M plus Martial for Perisic would be ludicrous. £40M plus Perisic wouldn't happen either.

Jesus he's far far away from the finished product. Granted he looked good on the ball for England at the WC but look at the opposition bar Croatia. If he wasn't English half the fans on here singing his praises would be non existent.

He is barely even an improvement on what we have and is not a better CB than Bailey. Give Phil Jones a chance to cut out the sloppiness from his play and he'll be a fine defender to sit in next to Bailey.

£60m odd for him is laughable. People moan about the standard of players we have, signing the likes of Mcguire is exactly why. Compare him to the likes of Ferdinand/Vidic.

Show some ambition we're supposed to be the biggest club in the world. Mcguire is a middle of the table team player.

Sorry, crossed wires. I mean he is pretty much the finished product in terms of his development as a player, not as in the complete player. Wouldnt be sad or excited if we signed him tbh. Saying that he would be a better signing than the majority we have made in that position the last few years, he is better than Lindelof, he is better than Rojo, he is better than Blind, he is better than Smalling. As for JOnes, give him a chance???? He is three years away from a testemonial!

You know a bid for koubilay was already rejected at €89m?

Yes accordign to the press, as £65m was supposedly rejected for MacGuire. I would rather spend £110m for example on Khoubillay than £80m on MacGuire, of probably £70m on Toby of Spurs. All the fees are way too high but apart from premiership experience and nationality Khoubillay is the best deal for me out of those three in terms of age and ability, the other options which could be cheaper are Bonucci short term or gambling on Upemecano. There are other defenders like Unai Nunez or Romagnoli, but I think we need someone of the quality and experience to come straight in, in that sense I guess MacGuire makes sense, he is a good premiership defender, better than what we have who shouldnt take long to settle....but I think we need a world class centre back, which I dont think he is like most of the other names

If we sign both Perisic and Maguire, and Sanchez steps up while Pereira gets game time, I'd be reasonably happy and a bit more optimistic about the season despite not signing a LB or a true RW.

Which better players available at CB who are
- at good age
- helps in home grown quota
- who are already suited to the league

CBs peak at around 28-29. He is 25. He isn't a finished product.

Well yes, they are all good reasons to sign him of course. No he hasnt peaked in terms of experience but I dont think he will get better ability wise. Obviously home grown quota there arent any others as Uk centre backs that are not teenagers are really pretty poor at this moment.

I think we need a world class centre back though which I dont think he is or will be. I wouldnt be sad if we sign him, be better than most we have made the last few seasons. I would personally be happy to sign him, partly for the reasons you state to replace us getting rid of Jones and Smalling as well as Rojo which should pretty much pay for him AND sign a second centre back. If as sadly expected we keep JOnes and Smalling though I would hope we sign a world class one instead

Transfer related news. I can't believe Liverpool have now outspent us. Crazy! So much for not buying one's way to success.

Hate the outspent argument, look at the net spend, still way different. In my opinion we have been pretty poor numbers wise for pretty much the whole decade in terms of number of players moved on and the transfer fees we sell for

Should we be after him for 70+ million euros? He's talented and obviously has great marketing potential but is he that good?

Well Dembele after an injury season moving from Dortmund is apparently over rated and not done anything of note, even though he was twice the player Pulisic is while there. But yes everybody will tell you he is amazing.
I think he is good but not that good personally, really dont see him playing for one of the elite clubs

That is why i believe it won't happen.
This summer has been a big fiasco as I'm 100% sure Maguire wasn't on our list before the WC.

Maybe liek most of us, the club thought England would be awful so the price wouldnt be so crazy....that worked well

No where near as good as Maguire in my opinion. I think Maguire will do well here if we get him.

Has anybody seen him bar the world cup? I know he was highly rated before going to Barcelona but never ever seen him til the world cup where it is hard to judge. I thought he was decent in the world cup myself, but liek I said Sanchez was very very good and though I rate him very highly he is still way from the finished article as he showed at time with Spurs last year.

Not sure how we could be happy ending the summer with two big gaping holes still present in the team. It's not good enough really

Can't believe what I am reading he got Lindelöf and Bailly and now he wants to splash crazy ammounts on yet another CB. I mean Maguire is decent but if he wants him so much why not just offer Leicster some cash and send Jones the other way. Who the feck is going to be our RW we desperately need creativity in that position, this window has imo been a complete joke. Another season of two 33 year old wingers as full backs I guess, unless Dalot surprises us hopefully.

Personal opinion, because Lindelof is shite and we bought badly last year in a position we desperately need an increase of quality in and a decrease in numbers.

Funny last year nobody wanted him here, yet this year after a good world cup everybody wants him? We later signed Sanchez who is a much better LEFT winger. Unless we are totally changing from 4-3-3 this wouldnt make any sense at all, and £50 again for someone touching 30 that has ALWAYS been good at the Euros or World CUps for Croatia and generally just good for his club, still doesnt make sense
