We better be selling a defender or two if we have Maguire cookin in, wage bill must be getting mental now.

Definitely agree. At least we’ve got rid of Blind, Carrick, Micky and Zlatan in last 6 months though. Surely at least Darmian plus one or two more to add (hopefully)

Most probably Darmian and Rojo will leave, I think our wages structure is fine, Sanchez wages are covered by Ibra's, Dalot wont be on huge wages so thats covered by Blinds and Carrick will be surely on less and that covers Part of Freds

Cant link the post in due to being a newby and all..

But we are still in talks with spurs over Toby A..If you search twitter for skysportspaulg you'll see his tweet 5 minutes ago.

Wonder if all this Maguire talk is a smoke screen for him?

"Marina Granovskaia, the Chelsea director, is understood to have done the deal directly with Green’s agent..."

On a serious note, are there people in the UK paying sites like the times to read their articles?
On the other hand when I think about it, if I knew nothing but english and there are media sites like express, I might pay as well.

If we're willing to spend 65 mill on Maguire then why wouldn't we be willing to spend 50+ on Alderweireld?

It isn't just the transfer fee. Toby would want wages of £150k plus over 5 years. Leicester want to resign Maguire on £75k a week so his wages will be considerably lower over 5 years. Toby is 30 and coming back from a serious injury so giving him big money on a long contract is much more of a gamble.

Maguire is 5 years younger and can play for us 10 years. Toby can maybe play for 5 years.

English quota too. I know many don't agree but I think he would be an improvement over Smalling/Rojo/Jones to partner Baily. But I don't think it's worth 65mil improvement. I think I'd rather an elite defender for that cash, Maguire might be that in future but still a maybe. Toby would be a big upgrade as I think he's arguably one of the top 2 or 3 best CBs in the league. I'd take Toby at 50mil even at his age over a 65mil + Maguire.

Yeah okay that makes sense.

Not to mention his 25 million clause which kicks in next summer. I hope we ship out Rojo and Jones and replace them with Toby and Maguire.
Toby, Maguire, Bailly, Smalling and Lindelof with the youngsters.

Not to mention, getting Maguire would at least mean not giving Levy any money!

I'm guessing all Mourinho is concerned with is the next 2-3 seasons.

Who's going to be the better player for us in that timeframe?
Mourinho may only care about the next couple years, but it's the responsibility of the board to care about the long term future of our club.

Transfer related news. I can't believe Liverpool have now outspent us. Crazy! So much for not buying one's way to success.

just shows how shit we are at selling players. But it's not always easy to get rid of some dross... if we can sell Darmian for anything will be a huge turning point for us!

There is the fact we aren't a selling club like Liverpool (See Mash, Alonso, Suarez, Coutinho etc). But there is also the fact that we pay our squad players a ridiculous wage, which no other teams are willing to pay when we decide to get rid. This means we have to accept a much lower transfer fee to get them off the books or subsidise their wage, sometimes both.

Whatever people think about Willian or Perisic or fu**ing whoever, we need a winger, we probably even need two based on last seasons performances against top teams, so lets just get some signed and then try and be world beaters the season after.

Agreed. For what it’s worth, I think Willian is fantastic. Ok, the price is a bit silly, but I couldn’t really care less about that. We are DESPERATE for a proper winger on that right hand side.

Signing players for the sake of it is the reason we have so much sub par players in the team. Then someone else becomes available and we’re stuck with yet another player we’d probably struggle to shift in their place.

Exactly, who gives a sht about money. It’s not like other teams will wait until we find the best value for money. We need a winger NOW.

I don't really care about if we're paying over the odds for him. He's a top class player and good for the next 2-3 seasons and addresses the glaring lack of balance in our team. Hope it's true.
