his performances in preseason have convinced the club the time to sell is now.

if the club decides to sell i hope its not based on preseason form. i feel like that's something redcafe users would do. fans generally put more weight into preseason form than it seems to merit from managers and whatnot as more often than not i hear them say its more about getting players back to competitive fitness, match rhythm, etc

That seems to be what the journalists are saying who in the past few days have gone on a 180 from saying the club aren't going to sell to saying they're going to sell because Martial isn't committed and not playing well. With the number of stories coming out it seems to be a briefing too - like with the Maguire stuff.

Maguire is seriously, seriously fecking shit. Gets destroyed against any decent footballing side as he’s so uncoordinated.

His sides have conceded 80 and 60 goals in the last two PL seasons. 20th and 16th in the league. He just an awful player by any top clubs standards. It would be a disastrous piece of business. Jones and Smalling are legitimately better defenders.

Erm what? :wenger:

So much wrong with this post. Firstly he has become everything we hoped Jones would be when we first signed him, and secondly you are judging him when he was in one of the worst sides the premier league has ever seen. He would be an incredible signing for us in my opinion. Would happily give them Jones or Smalling plus cash to get him in. Rojo in a deal instead would be better though.

Post is a car crash but I do agree with the bold.

Problem is, Jones & Smalling fluctuate between 4 out of 10 and 9 out of 10 on a whim. Sometimes either side of the half time whistle. They're both talented, especially Jones.

But Maguire is a solid, reliable, sturdy 7+ out of 10 every single game.

Bailly and Lindelof seem incapable of playing well without a steady hand alongside them. Maguire is that. If all he does is enable Bailly to recover from his atrocuious run of form, he'll be a successful signing.

Don't worry, you'll be singing a very different tune when he joins.

Felicevich is also Alexis' agent. Can't really see Vidal happening as midfield isn't exactly a problem position for us.

Doubt. Barcelona offer was quite high yet got declined. Don't see anyone can offer more.

Barca fan/journalist said they didn't make a single bid for Willian. Looks like a game by Chelsea.

Every one uses Man utd's name for negotiations all the time.

Chelsea clearly want a Martial-Willian swap deal. 98% sure it will happen before end of window. Whether any money is added to either side I don't know. Fully expecting this to be Jose's final season

Where does Martial fit in at Chelsea? They'd have to play a 4231 with Hazard through the middle to fit everyone in.

I can't believe we rejected Barcelona for Willian. I am very angry like 99% of Chelsea fans. Two months ago I would offer him to all other Top6 PL teams for 35m.
About swap i don't think it's a good deal. Where we gonna use Martial? LW Hazard and CHO. RW new players (Willian replacement) and Pedro.

Was listening to Tim Vickery on Talksport earlier, he is their South American football expert, he said he couldn't understand why Barca were going for Willian but could understand them going for Malcolm. Also that their signing of Arthur was really good business.

Supposedly they are trusting Vinicus Junior to step up. Hence the BBV tweets the other day.
Neymar was already a star/ world star when he left Santos yet he didn't hit top form in his first season at Barcelona who has Messi and other veteran carrying the team. Ronaldo left and the team has to compensate for that loss. Vinicius Jr as highly rated as he is, it's very tall order. Hell, even Hazard would be under severe pressure to adapt and perform if he moves there let alone a kid in his first season in Europe .

Chelsea are pricing Hazard out of the move though. Hazard is ultimately a replacement and a third choice at best. We're not gonna spend Neymar/Mbappé money on him

Martial and Willian swap was one of the last transfers I wanted to see happen at the start of the summer, and now I’m starting to get nervous.

Hope we just sell the misery aboard somewhere, anywhere.

Really cannot see this being true re United's interest.

As for the rest of our business- i am resigned to not signing anyone else, and that scares me, a lot. Non of the youngsters are ready yet who are on tour , although only way they will gain experience is by playing- for the life of me i just cannot see why we are penny pinching at left back- Shaw is horrendously bad. We will struggle to make top 4- and my only optimism comes from hoping that Pogba, Lukaku and Lindelof carry their WC form into the league and that if we have unearthed a gem in Fred- but even if all those stars align we are still way off.

Of course he'd cost a fortune but I personally think he'd be worth it.

Coutinho cost Barca close to Mbappe money and Hazard is a better player.

In your Real team Hazard would absolutely tear the majority of La Liga defence's a new one.

Keep seeing Chelsea being linked to Daniele Rugani, we should be all over that at the quoted 45 million, perhaps even some kind of swap deal could be set up, they have a long term interest in Martial and Rugani would certainly help our team over an unhappy attacker who may not actually feature much this season. Such a classy player...

Let’s tell Sir Alex Ferguson who was scouting him in 2013, all the professionals who played with him every week and have voted him player of the year at Sheff U, Hull and Leicester, all those involved with England where he was a mountain at the back in their joint best ever World Cup on foreign soil, that he’s actually just fecking shit.

The Caf has spoken, the rest are irrelevant. Stay away.

Ferguson was scouting him personally was he? Didn't he say Phil Jones would be our greatest ever player?

Mountain at the back vs terrible sides. If anything you're proving the point that this is a ridiculously reactionary signing when he was available for £20m last season. We're buying him off of a fecking World Cup where England played one half decent attacking side.

No he hasn't. Jones was better than him even last season. Hull weren't even close to the worst side the league has seen, they didn't even finish bottom ffs. Pure revisionism.

He's good enough on the ball albeit makes mistakes in dangerous areas. Wont get away with that here. Is a dominant aerial presence which is very useful for smaller sides but very limited in terms of what it will bring here. We actually ripped him to pieces last season twice - Go and watch the games - The Mourinho attack everyone complains about - He stole some headlines with the goal but defensively he's so clumsy it's ridiculous.

I'd be willing to bet he'll be despised on here within months of signing.

Why do they need anther young inexperienced inconsistent winger? Don't they have one already?
I just don't get the new Barca transfer strategy

£100m for Ings, Origi, Mignolet & Karius? What dream world are they living in?

1) Coutinho is considered a player to fulfill Iniesta role, a creative attacking midfielder, not a front 3 role but a Modric one, playing deeper.
2) Dembelé is still a mystery, not a player one can bet to play each single one of the matches in Barça's front 3, they need alternatives.
3) Messi and Suarez are getting older each year. Barça don't want to be in Real Madrid's situation with CR7.

True but strength in depth in any one position would be long overdue in terms of quality. He’s better than At least 2 of our back up options I think?

Probably BS as he’s always linked with us but I want it to happen just for @Pexbo sake
