Well they will have to wait to 2 years. It’s a 1+1 deal. I think most seem to think it’s only 1 year.
Does that work in our favour or his? I'm not sure how these work. Habit our option to renew or down to both parties?

I’d say its quite a but tougher to defend in Serie A, where you have to be very strong at everything, not just jumping and running fast.

Skriniar is very close to VVD as it is and will surpass him massively in the next few seasons.

Can't agree on where it's tougher. The better attackers are in the PL, the better depth of talent in the mid and lower table teams, better aerial play -- probably the biggest thing that keeps CBs out of the PL or sees them fail in it is not being good enough in the air.

As far as quality of the player, when he's better than Van Dijk, then it would make sense to pay more than Van Dijk went for. Not before and then hope he gets better.

Doesn't seem like this is going to happen as negotiations stand. Only just got to Milan, contract for 4 more years, and probably could stand to get better before he moves to a big club anyway.

I’d take Son in a heart beat. I’d give them money plus Martial.

West Ham looking to restart negotiations for Felipe Anderson. Lazio considering Gelson Martins as a potential replacement.

Too wasteful. I've watched a few games, where he chooses to go by himself, rather than combining with a teammate in a better position.

He's a winger. You take on defenders and get through 30% of the time. When he does he has loads of end product. Dont know if youve watched a fair amount of games then - combines too. Better than a safe-player who you cant blame for not trying (zero end product). He's a great player in the William mould but more explosive and is more direct. Just what we need - I doubt it will materialise though

Would be an awful deal given Son has to go on national service for two years imminently.

He has been given the choice to defer it. He’s come out and said he won’t IIRC but I suspect that is a coordinated response because saying “Great! I’ll take you up on that offer” carries connotations that national service is a chore that is best avoided if possible.

He’s representing his country and bringing great pride to them, they will encourage him to continue to do so. He’ll just be another pair of hands in the forces.

West Ham seem to be going after a lot of big names this year

Situation might have changed recently but there's been high profile cases of celebs ruining their careers by attempting to get out of it and even delays wouldn't be well received from my understanding (obviously my understanding isn't that well informed, but that's the impression I've gotten).

I really don't think there's any realistic chance he won't do it unless he gets a proper exemption by winning an international tournament (Asia Cup 2018 in August being the last chance I think), and that's a hell of a gamble which would involve having a player unavailable for a month anyway.

Which all makes it a bit hypothetical for me. Either they win the Asia cup and Spurs would want a ridiculous deal, or they don't and the situation gets too sticky to be worth bothering with.

I read an article on the situation earlier, its pretty much as you've said - theres bad feeling in Korea regarding exemptions, the Korean guy who played for Arsenal suffered badly with this apparently. He has 2 more chances, Asian games in August (its not the official FIFA tournament, so Spurs can decline his call up) and then theirs the official Asian cup which is in Feb. - both give him a chance to win and get a pass from military duty. So its down to spurs how they manage it.

I think he's a very good player, but theres too much uncertainty.

Surely not? We've bought a midfielder, have Pereira coming back and McTominay is there as a sub. If the rumors about Kovacic is true, it makes little sense for Fellaini to be getting a new and better contract. He wants more time on the pitch, doesn't he?

He's been a useful player under Mourinho and has a strong mentality which we're sorely lacking in our squad. I'm happy to have him as a different option from the bench when we're chasing a game late on.

A little fox in the box striker might have been nice as a different option. It is just sheer laziness from United. We have wasted time on him that could be spent elsewhere.

It's just business, we spent 27M on him, we don't want to lose him for free. if he signs, he'll stay here for a year or two, and be sold to recoup some of what we spent on him.
He provides a good option from the bench, we can't deny that. Moreover, he is happy to do so even with all the slack (underserved in my eyes) he gets from our fans, no problem from him at all due to that and he is ready to help the team whenever he is called.

I'm not bothered by that at all. if he signs, fine, if he doesn't, fine as well, as we'll get a replacement.

Would a little striker suit our style though especially late on when we need a goal and the game plan goes out the window. In those situations I'd rather have someone tall and good in the air who can cause some chaos in the opposition's box.

Spot on. Not sure why people are that bothered about the fact we've kept a squad player. Since signing Fred he's even less likely to start. The only sad thing for me is we didn't have another young player that we could have promoted as I saw Scott for Fellaini and was hoping Gomes would come in.
