Well 80 million isn't that far off the supposed 65 million offer. I think van Dijk has set the benchmark. If we can sell Darmian, Blind and one of our CB's, we may just end up paying 60-80 million for him.
Wonder if we'd consider paying a price like that for a defender, works out to about £70m.

Difference is Van Dijk was/is probably the best CB in the PL. He was as close to a sure thing as you can get. Taking a guy from the Italian league is a lot bigger risk, you shouldn't pay as much for that.
Even 45M is more than anyone except Liverpool and Man City have ever paid for a defender. Ferdinand and Thuram were more in constant dollars of course, but they were also clearly among the best in the world.
The most expensive ever from Italy are Bonucci, Thiago Silva and Thuram.

All he did was play for Southampton and Celtic though. Skriniar is younger and helped his team get back into the CL. We’re going to have to pay top dollar for the top talents, which is what Skriniar is.

Well they sold Nainggolan so I guess that pays for Pastore.
Nainggolan is sold, Alisson soon, maybe Manolas and they have a fair bit of CL money to spend.
