"The former England and Manchester United captain has already agreed terms on a two-year deal worth around £12.5million.
Everton have waived a fee for the remaining 12 months of his £150,000-a-week deal to get him off their wage bill"

this is undoubtedly the most unsurprising news this summer

how Everton were mugged off into taking Rooney off our hands I'll never know......

Think we can safely say that's bull. It was all believable right up until they said Martial would be willing to run his contract down, by which time he'll be 25 and missed out on crucial development time in his career. That isn't going to happen, and even if it was true, why would he be willing to do it if Jose has given his blessing to the transfer?

The decline and lack of empathy toward Rooney have been startling in fairness. Clearly, there has been a huge lack of respect for the man from all in our country, not just United fans.

I've never known such a talisman footballers career come to such a lacklustre end. No one cares what happens to him anymore and I doubt anyone will care when he's gone.

Thank god we fooled them into taking him, they’ve realised far quicker than we did though :lol:

Anyone heard of this Dutch kid named Xavi Simons in Barça's academy? Can't we throw Blind and Darmian their way and we'll take him for free? XD
He’s a very young boy and he looks very small. To replace to international players with this Xavi Simmons is a terrible idea and one probably not even thought of lol

he's not very good.

Disagree, his touch, technique and vision are all superb, should be one of the best in the world. Wonder why he has never really made it, good to see him at the world cup though

If there is any truth in this at all It would be very strange thatvsuch a low level deal is being quibbled on for so long. There must be more complicated things both sides are asking for or negotiating. Perhaps there is truth in the Sandro links or perhaps another player.
Millions are still millions and for every business it's worth haggling for a few weeks to save a few, even more so as there's no sporting hurry.

I can only imagine this is taking so long because there are players coming the other way.

Dybala + cash for darmian?

Yeah i wonder if martial and sandro have been talked about a lot, with darmians agent just sat in the corner, being told to shut up every so often.

Empathy? He failed to look after his fitness sufficiently and has been stealing a living at exorbitant wages the last few years, and is now about to sign another lucrative contact to go and play in America. He's doing just fine.

20 years from now there’s going to be a statue of outside OT as the clubs record scorer. Then fans will look back and reflect on how good he was for about 12 years.

He played the contract game as well as anybody. Announcing he was leaving back in 2010 only to go on and sign a massive contract. I don't blame him for doing it (you have a limited career as a footballer which can be ended abruptly by injury) but I also don't have an issue with fans who were turned off by his antics either. I am sure each and every player uses tactics to get better deals but very few would do media statements like that, especially a player of his stature and a guaranteed starter at the club (as opposed to say Martial who isn't getting any game time)

Yep from an accounting perspective he’s correct. The value of his transfer is amortized over the duration of his contract. So at 14m we bought him at, that’s 2.8m a year. Meaning his on book value right now is 5.6m. The rest has been depreciated.

Strictly speaking it is correct from an accounting point of view, but if it isn't a depreciating asset, then it doesn't mean you'd be happy to sell at that price point.

If I buy a house with the intention of selling in 10 years, I could depreciate the value over that period. But I'm not going to give the house away for free, I expect to sell the house for the appropriate value.

It's exactly why contract renewals exist, to maintain the players value

Reminds me of that wc 2014 ad where his role was a washed up has been.

Lads this isn’t ‘Accountancy Manager 2018’
A player is worth whatever the market will offer + whatever the selling club decide they need on top to go towards a replacement + any bonuses the selling club may incur - anything the club lets the player off with if they’ve been a loyal player over a long period

See how simple it is? NOT

The bottom line is the club have a valuation in mind which hasn’t been met. Just because fans don’t rate a player it doesn’t mean the club should accept getting ripped off to get rid of said player. Sometimes you just need to play hardball

This. Pretty much what I was trying to say, the accountancy stuff is correct technically, but isn't how the player is valued.

A lot of stuff comes into play on both sides which means the selling club, and even various buying clubs can all value the same player very differently.
