So that makes it since Fergie, only 2 attacking signings have been successful and that's Lukaku and Zlatan. Maybe 3 with Mata, but I think most agree he isn't at the level that had him down as one of the best attacking players in the league.

Almost as if something is fundamentally wrong with this football club right now.

It's quite sad. After witnessing that goal against Liverpool at the beginning we were absolutely certain he'd go on to become top class. Even now, his natural ability is beyond other squad members, yet, he's so frustratingly ineffective. It's possible he'll become that player elsewhere, but not under Jose at this time.
 
I’ll be sad to see him leave. He should have had more opportunities and he should have taken his chances when given.

80m and outside the league.

Jose won't keep unhappy players. That alone is the criteria to let him go.

Is he good enough ? He was signed by LvG as a long term project so it's probably not that much about quality, imo.
 
Tony Martial wants to leave, sad times. Could have been a real star but hey ho if he doesn’t want to pull up his socks and fight for a place on the first team.

Really not arsed if he wants to go. He's had plenty of chances and failed to take them.

Clearly talented, but honestly not bothered.
 
He can feck off. By going public about it, he also lowers the price significantly.

Could have just worked on a transfer with Woodward out of the public eye.

If Martial wants to go, let him. Clearly extremely talented, but I think he lacks the mentality to make it at the highest level as a lot of players before him have. Sell him for a decent price and get a talented winger.

Exactly. It confirms what I have always thought about him. He really can't be arsed. With clubs knowing he wants out, that should scrap a few millions off his value. As soon as Jose said he should listen more to him than to his agent, I knew he was a goner.
 
Bye Tony! The only player in our squad who makes it seem like hell has frozen over whenever he doesn’t get minutes. The constant agent quotes, the sulking...left Martial out of the team? How dare you!

Compare that to what you would expect from someone like Lukaku and his attitude.

We don’t need that drama here. Supreme footballing talent but seriously lacking in application and attitude. Was nice knowing you.
 
I have some sympathy. I mean he was really excellent by most standards for the first half of the season, still wasn't totally sure of his place in the team and I think should have been. Then came Sanchez and he was dropped like a stone. Ok, he could fight for his place but Sanchez played quite badly and still got picked ahead of him... and our form was no better either. In the end he lost a world cup place that he surely would have had. I don't like the way Mourinho slams his young players in public but says nothing when a more senior player struggles for form.

However, maybe best for all if he does move on. Whoever buys him gets a huge talent though and I think there will be big clubs queueing up. We should still get a decent fee.

Or we could sack our manager.
 
To be honest I'm a bit tired of these "Mr. Almost" players. Martial is a huge talent, and could still be a very great player, but never was consistent.

I just want world class players who constantly makes an impact. It's been quite a while since we've had these players you could rely on in every game. Pogba's up and down, our young players this season has also been on and off, and it's just annoying coming from reliable world class players like Scholes, Giggs, Rooney, Ronaldo, Vidic, Ferdinand, etc who you could always count on, or at least 80-90% of the time they were on the field.

We won't be lucky enough twice. At least with Pogba he came up from the academy and had a connection with United. Martial isn't the same so we would probably be the last club to try and buy him again.
 
He can feck right off, how can he talk about that in public, he's just putting us in a bad situation when selling, if he cared, if would have talked about that in private. and people here siding with him for months now, rendering the cafe toxic as hell.
 
I understand Tony. I think it's quite clear he's not the first choice and maybe not even second. He needs to play and it's better to even take step back than sit on bench.
