Ah, glad to see that the season of 'pluck a number out of our ass and then pick random players' has started early.

Looks like both Manchester teams have been busy briefing.

Ridiculous if true.
It's A Bola, so probably a 1% likelihood of being true, if even that. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if City were interested in Ederson, but that price is obviously want Benfica want, rather than what City are prepared to pay.

I doubt Neighmar could move to another clubs as the price would simply be too high for anyone to consider. We're obviously not going to buy him and the only other clubs capable are Chelsea, City, PSG, or Madrid and I doubt they would spend upwards of 100m for a player who has average 25 goals a year in La Liga.
Stop horsing around

Neymar - 150
Griezmann - 80
Fabinho - 40
Silva - 40
Left Back - 30
Centre Back - 30
Keeper - 30

Total - 400

Easy.

We're not going to sign seven players.

Ed Woodward: “Are we happy with the roster at this point? Yes, I think there’s a happiness from the manager at this point, as you can tell in all his recent interviews in terms of where we are as a squad.

“I think there’s always going to be continual improvement. I think even if you win everything you still want to improve the squad – that’s the nature of the dynamic industry that we’re in. But I think we aren’t necessarily in a position where we have to churn a large number of players.

“I think I’ve guided before that we want to get to a more steady state and be buying and potentially selling a lower number of players each year. I think we’re in that kind of environment now compared to where we were two, three years ago, when perhaps there was a little more churn required.

“And in terms of guidance around that, obviously we don’t guide around player spend. It’s a number you can track almost on a deal-by-deal basis because things are very widely published when they happen, but it is not something we will guide on.”

Jose Mourinho: “We prefer to bring two three or four players who feel an idea, a football we try to play, and that can improve our squad. We are not interested in signing six or seven or selling six or seven. We are not going to play this game.”

Even so, seven is excessive. Like sheldon says I think it'll be four outfield players in - five total accounting for a replacement for De Gea.

I think it'll depend mainly on how many players we ship out. I believe we'll get a striker, Griezmann, a CM, a CB and another attacking player. Hopefully we can hold onto De Gea.

We may have space in our squad to sign 5+ players whilst still keeping people from the youth squad in the picture.

Depay/Schweinsteiger opened two spots. Zlatan and Rooney two more. I know there are rumors of Mata, Young, Darmian and either Jones/Smalling leaving. Shaw (looks less and less likely as time goes on) and Carrick (if he retires) can still leave as well. I don't think we'll spend near that amount (400M) but I can see us spending about 200 on 4 or so players.

Varane is an immense defender but getting rid of a crock in Jones and replacing him with another crock sounds pointless to me. Marquinhos would be a great buy though.

There's been stories that both Barca and Real really want Varane* too - in which case I can't see us getting him.

But agree re: Marquinhos, would love to see him partnered with Bailly, and Rojo+1 in reserve

EDIT: *For some reason I was thinking of Laporte, not Varane...

Yeah, that'll teach me not to try and multi-task - I was thinking of Laporte, who Real and Barca both want.

That said, and now thinking about Varane (and not Laporte) - I've been impressed when I've seen Varane, but would agree with the concerns over his injuries. Our central defenders have had an awful injury record for several years, and I would just love to see two players who could both play 40+ games a season

Doesn't the Marquinhos to us rumour start up every year around this time, only for him to sign a short term extension?

Pretty much. They have no reason to sell either - Silva is getting older and I believe their only other CB is Kimpembe.

When we signed Bailly last summer, we never saw it coming, because we weren't even linked with him. Maybe this summer will see us do something similar.
