If true then it sounds like Liverpool have spent most the Coutinho money already as expected.

After Coutinho's sale, Liverpool have the lowest net spend in the Premier League over the last 2 years,at -£34 million

The next lowest is Swansea with -£19 million, while the two highest are Man City with £292million & Man Utd with £257million.

Just seen this. And this is on top of the fact we had 150mill plus to spend last summer pre Coutinho saga. We really haven't spent anything over the last few years and we can afford to splurge and have a one off spending spree.
We aren't going to have City/Utd money every summer but the money is there.
I do remain sceptical as to weather they will spend it. They're the masters of PR bluster.
No fan wants to win the net spend trophy.

Asked what Tottenham need to do to keep him, Kane replied: I’ve always said: keep progressing, keep getting better, we want to start winning trophies. That’s the aim, as long as the club keep doing that then, yeah I’m happy here.”
“And if you poor sods really do well, I might well pull my ass back inside the team bus and quietly pull the window shut.”

Small clubs need to sell their best players. It helps the economics though ;)

:(
fecking depressing, the prospect of moving forward as a club from this last horrid decade in particular is tantalizingly close, yet slipping backwards seems to loom over us constantly. I can easily see it happening.

Only reason I see City spunking the money for Sanchez now is to have a real push for the Champions league. Adding Sanchez probably makes them the favourites for that. But it's a little crazy to see how they keep adding attacking talent. Even in the summer, people thought someone like Bernardo Silva was overkill. And they add Sanchez to that. A lot of catching up to do for the rest of the league to keep up with how stacked their attack will be.

To be fair on you mate, some players you just cant hold on to. Ronaldo was the same for us, we had to sell him in the end. The big question is how you replace the player.

Think you are overreacting. You should come out of this netspend logic as long as team's requirements are met. You are improving significantly which is something you haven't seen for years.

As a Real Madrid fan, do Dembélé, Coutinho and possibly Griezmann concern you? What changes do Real need to make to compete with them? It seems like your squad is ageing and needs big investment.

Quite the turn around given how the season started, Real off the back of back to back Champions Leagues and a League Title, beating Barca in both legs of their community shield, Barca having just lost Neymar and look at it now, Barca 16 points clear soon to have an almost completely new looking front 6 and Real going nowhere with a seemingly aging Ronaldo, a perma crocked Bale and meh Benzema

Isn't Alexis cup tied?

Pretty much. They wanted him last summer too, for the CL. The league is more or less decided. The only way why they overspend like crazy is to get the CL, at all costs.

I don't think so, Barca and PSG are both better sides, how much better is a different story though.

I know but I'm just wary they're content with top 4 finish and postive net spend every summer. Klopp is tailor made for that particular approach and we have improved immensely we just haven't done enough. The next few years will provide a clearer picture.

Agree
I think Liverpool fans are really unhappy not winning trophies but afraid to speak up about it and criticize Klopp tbh
Another year or so of the same and there will be serious pressure

As fantastic a coach Pep is, it would be refreshing to see him do well without the benefits of the best players of this generation or the generous financial backing.

Of course, but thought it still matters because he featured in the Europa League.

Unless that was never a thing(or it was and UEFA changed it).

City are allowed to register up to three new players for their Champions League squad after the January window shuts. A maximum of one of those three can have played in the Europa League group stage earlier in the season. I would assume Sanchez will be that player.

Deulofeu has decided to leave this winter. There are contacts with Milan and Inter. Barça want to sell, he wants to go on loan

Benzema just renewed, but I have the feeling that it is a renewal forced by the time that remained and not a commitment of the club. He should go, I like him, he has scored many goals and has been a fundamental piece for the BBC, but his numbers are too bad. I think Zidane has not done him any favor.
The problem of Cristiano and Bale is that they earn a lot of money and there are not many teams willing to match it, especially if they come from such a bad season

Benzema is definitely in decline, quite steeply in truth, but I could see him being happy enough to sit on the bench as the back up striker for another couple of seasons to allow the club to focus on the much harder task of moving Ronaldo and Bale on, as I agree they are going to be difficult deals to do as I can really only think of 2 destinations for Ronaldo and maybe 4 for Bale.

All well and good, but the best coaches will typically be coveted, and work for, the teams who have the best players of their generation and/or the most money.

It's apparently been "beginning" every year for the last 2 or 3.

The dire predictions on here have more false starts than a doped-up Russian athlete twitching away on the running blocks.

Is this the first time Kane has made any hint that playing elsewhere is even feasible

This is their litmus test. Assuming your numbers are correct, they should be able to spend about 200m pounds between this Jan and summer. Should be more than enough to get a Lemar/ a proper DM and a GK in addition to Keita and VVD which would be completely making over the spine of the team. Theoretically should be able to.

Problem is will FSG spend and other teams know you have the money now.

Did Coutinho pay part of the fee himself then or was that rumour bullshit?

This guy is a joke. He got sold but wanted that buy back clause to get back to his beloved club. Now only wants to go on loan to get game time so he may be able to come back again.

He has put a big huge sign up and said... That feckin Kyle Walker, good enough for him its good enough for me too.

And any spurs fan in denial that this season is not concerning the players. Is, I think, in for a big shock this summer. Unless a trophy is won and top 4 is secured.

Swap deals happen very rarely but I would offer Spurs £100m-£120m plus Lukaku for Kane. Replacing a goal scoring striker is one of the hardest things for a mid-tier club. Lukaku despite his deficiencies is an excellent goal scorer. A £180m pound from Real would be no good for Spurs if they cannot find a top goal-scorer. And let's be honest there aren't many going around. Think this can be a win-win situation for both club, i.e. of course if it is agreeable to Lukaku.

Since August 2008, when Sheikh Mansour bought Manchester City and started on that crazy spending binge, here's the total amount spent on player purchases by each of the big 6 premiership clubs to date:

Arsenal: ......................£444,515,000
Chelsea: ......................£924,559,000
Liverpool: ....................£657,450,000
Man City: ..................£1,261,300,000
Man United:................. £811,650,000
Tottenham: ..................£548,650,000

While Liverpool has not spent anywhere near the astronomical sums City has spent so far just on buying players, Liverpool supporters can hardly claim that their club hasn't really spent anything over the last few years ... they have certainly significantly outspent Arsenal and Tottenham (and the above figure does not include the £75,000,000 spent on VVD this window)!
!

Wait.. What did I just read? 100m plus Lukaku for Kane? :wenger:
