I agree with you the Perisic moment has gone but from Mourinho's comments he said he saw Perisic as a wingback and Martial/Rashford would have partnered Lukaku.
Yeah, I imagine we'd have seen more of the system we saw vs Arsenal with Perisic instead of Young as LWB and Martial and Rashford competing for the SS spot while Mkhi/Mata/Lingard compete for the role in behind them.

This is another reason why a lot of players will be reluctant to move mid season.

The chances of getting Mahrez would be pretty good compared to all other talk. He would come in a heart beat.
He has been available and willing to go for the past two summers. It will be strange if we go for him now. It would indicate a very poor transfer strategy.
