There is always that little crumble that gets to transform into a caf 'major issue'. Letting Mane go to the rival, not signing a PL proven winger, not having enough hair on the chest, not wearing the right boots. Calm down, Mane is not going anywhere in januari and the squad needs an addition of pace up front, so a young potential 22 year old playing in the Serie A is under the radar. Let those who scout do their work and we as fans can logically and reasonably judge those who play on the Old Trafford pitch. Let us not cross wires here and think we are suddenly all scouts because of some FM experience. Let the events develop organically.

If Sane goes anywhere it'll be Bayern anyway, that's where the usually end up.

He's playing in the Bundesliga not Italy.

Scattergun policy. The only ones we have done any kind of scouting is Shaw and Herrera. The others are either ones LVG has worked with or if enough papers mention them we will sign them.

martial and to an extent darmian too.

Does there exist a transfer tweets thread specifically for United?

I'm one of those fans who doesn't really care what the other teams are doing

Why would he know about a John Stones transfer? Being French one would assume he had the links to Martial, but a Premier League [English] player?

It seems to me like the media are hyping up loads of interest to lump it all on Van Gaal when we don't sign anyone, even though we probably don't want to sign anyone anyway.

Is there a special school that you have to attend to know talent?

You don't think we want to sign players in january? I'm certain we would love to but it's usually a difficult window.

Spotting talent is more than just seeing a young 19 year old with bundles of energy rip unknowing defenders apart. Eventually that youthful energy runs out and needs to be replaced by consistent end product and maturity. A lot of players between 18 and 22 look exceptional but when their bodies further develop, they pick up injuries, they go off the boil. This is why I'm not such a big fan of paying stupid amounts of money for unestablished players. Even martial is a huge gamble because they can quickly go from being the next Neymar style young player to Anderson and Pato. This is where talent scouting goes beyond performances on the pitch which is why Fergie was so adamant about the whole player aspect.

You're right in some ways. Young talent will always be a gamble, no matter who scouts them, scouts or fans. Obviously a club is not going to sign a player on the say of fans, but fans can spot a talent when they see it. What scouts have access to do is check the back ground of the player and see how they other aspects of their lives which fans don't have access to.

I'm not sure a new striker, on its own, is the answer. Are Rooney / Martial really so much worse than Vardy as the numbers suggest? Would Vardy score anywhere near as many in our current set up? I think not.
