The quotes from Wenger actually say:

'I don’t give much away (about transfers) because I don’t know,' Wenger said.

'I want to talk about them and hopefully we are capable of doing something in the next 10 days. It’s more about quality than quantity because our players will not stay out injured forever.

'Francis Coquelin is starting to run, Santi Cazorla will be back in mid-February, and Mikel Arteta is back now so, hopefully, if we can add one and, if needed, two maximum.'

44 mln pound sounds like bullshit, Schalke and Sane himself will probably want to wait untill EC anyway so nothing will happen in winter.

That's ridiculous. As long as they keep that up and ignore where they actually do need to strengthen they will never be a dominating force IMO
Go out and offer ridiculous sums for Varane, Carvajal and Busquets then the fear on this forum would be justified

Not that it matters to City, but where does he even fit in? They've just dropped £50 on Sterling, £55m on De Bruyne, and still have David Silva.

Overpaying is meaningless to them. Their owner is trying to make them the best team in the world and has money to burn.

But wait a minute.... Doesn't Woodward say the same thing?
The only difference is his follow through rate is poor.

I guess they even can get him without thinking about a song...

- starts at about 1:57 until 2:15

...he came from Mainz - and Schalke then (Bayern loaned him out to Schalke in between) cause he is big and blond - a picture of a man - whom do the women prefer to watch... oh, girls just want to have Jaaaaan, ...

While United try to overpay and still dont get their man.

Its because our targets are not gettable... Bale, neymar, Mueller etc.

They target sterling, kdb, Otamendi and do overpay but get their man. They have a great team now with possibly the most potent attack in the epl.

Apparently our board thought Silva was too slow.... We didn't bid on isco for the same reason. What the feck goes on in that board is beyond me.

I think Fergie said he didn't go for Silva because the scouting reports didn't show any evidence of defensive contribution. Part of me thinks he just didn't know how to fit in a #10 into his ideas.

So we went for Mata instead.

Are City really a great team though. When Kompany is missing most teams in PL look like they can beat City. Certainly City cant keep a clean sheet without him. And that's with them overpaying for both Otamendi and Mangala.

Mangala was a mistake, Otamendi was not... With kompany out they do look fragile in the back but their offence is potent. With their ambition and money they will get it right soon enough. I wish I had that same faith in our board but sadly I don't.

That was a desperation move by moyes and Woodward to give the club a lift in a rough time. I genuinely think that we will repeat this cycle until we get a DOF. Woodward is not good enough at the football is working things and he needs help.

Otamendi is 27 and had only one good season in his career. Paying what they did was a risk and so far it seems it backfired. £74M on those two players and thats still the area they need most investment in

I think Otamendi will come good eventually. I watched him at Valencia last year and the copa and he was rock solid and rarely lost out in a tackle. I sincerely think we should have bought him to pair with smalling instead of helping Ramos get a new contact this summer.

Bloody city. Building a cracking attack/team. No idea why we don't try to match them with these targets. It's not as if we don't need sane, de Bruyne, Otamendi etc ourselves.

That's my biggest gripe. Under the current regime we seem to be going after the established superstars whereas City are happily going for the class below and making them superstars. They are a better team and can afford to go for these yes, but it's not like we've been able to get the Mullers and Neymars. The two superstar signings have been flops anyway (not counting BFS).

I mean Martial was good - but we went for Neymar etc and Ramos and ended up with no-one.

Well City can get fecked. They are building a real high potential team there. I hope we don't sit on our arses or keep running after some unrealistic targets.

Or pay almost as much for a mediocre Brazilian sitting on the bench. I wouldnt mind paying a lot for Sane like we did for Martial

this is exactly what people said when we bought martial. that we are buying a striker who hasnt scored much. Yet it seemed like our scouts knew what they were doing

I think that Felipe Anderson is not a great player. On the other hand, Sane is fantastic and one of the biggest talents. So why pay so much for Anderson (who sits on the bench at Lazio) and not go for Sane?

You are missing the point, how many games have you seen of both and how do you know about them?

I hadn't heard of Martial at the time too. Not many had. Even the ones who had seen him like the French guys here seemed to think that he wasnt good enough to warrant such a big fee. Lot thought Benteke was a better bet but not many would prefer benteke over mrtial today.

Anderson I saw last season a couple of times. Sane I have not seen too many times but read a lot in the German magazines etc. As I said, I wouldnt buy Anderson

Good honest answer, you have seen !more of both than me, but point is, still know far less than our scouting squad, if they value Anderson, he must be worth it...
