I agree they aren't selling four of their best player's; however it isn't about Dortmund wanting to sell, it's about the player's agitating for a move. Usually this would be because their agents are in their ear saying they've been approached about clubs who would be willing to quadruple their salary and give them a 7 figure sign on fee.

Whether they agitate enough to force the club into selling is a totally different question. I wouldn't be surprised to see Gundogan and Hummels leave in July and then if towards the end of the window a bidding war going on for either Reus or Aubameyang and their heads being turned.
He'd have to do a lot more than just agitate for a move, he'd probably need to kick up an almighty fuss, complete with refusing to train and play. Dortmund hold all the cards here.

In any case, wasting the transfer window waiting/hoping for him to force a move from a club that has no incentive to sell would be terrible. We're probably looking at starting the season with a new manager and 4-5 new players. Best get them in as early as possible, especially a key signing like a new #9 would be.

Agreed. However a signing like this would be one where we'd already done the majority of our business (or were in the processential of doing so) and we were going for it as the cherry on top.

Apart from Dortmund's decision to sell or keep him: Auba just repeated his dream to play for Real Madrid. Weirder things have happened, I know, but a move to United after repeating on a monthly basis his dream club is RM would be ... unexpected.

Don't worry he isn't coming here. Would you sell him for £70m. That's about €90m?

I think the decision whether or not to sell him depends as much on the potential replacement as it does on the fee.
Aubemeyang is good, but not that special. I'd value him at around €40-50m, but what good does a significantly higher fee get you if you end up with an overpriced replacement that's not even as good as him.

Pretty sure Reus signed a new contract recently, or is due to sign one. He's not going anywhere either.

It's really difficult to tell. I assume it depends on many factors and is not limited to who could be brought in to replace him.

I'd much rather sign Kane for that sum. 70m pounds! That'll make him I think the 3rd most expensive player-highest for striker! Definitely not worth it. Kane- better finishing, younger+ knows the league so less chances of being a flop

Good to see that at least some users know their stuff. :) Reus' contract - without an exit clause - is until July 2019.

Dortmund are my second favourite team, so i'm not keen on United or anyone stealing all their best players.
Although if they did want to leave, i'd prefer them to go to United.

I believe he signed a 4 year deal last Summer. However stranger things have happened than a footballer at 27 years old thinking this is the perfect time to sign a huge 5 year deal worth £10m+ per year at one of the 7 or 8 clubs who can afford it.

:D Too bad then that Woodward didn't want to pay the requested €20m last summer for Ilkay.

Reus is the least likely player to move, and financially, we're as healthy as we've never been before, no need to sell him (or Auba). Even English media finally understood that, based on the very low number of rumors on Reus.

I could be wrong but I believe the whole purpose of him signing a new contract was him committing his future to the club because there was lots of speculation about him leaving last summer, and he signed a new contract even though he still had years left on his previous deal.

Don't think Dortmund would sell Aubameyang given the expected departures of Hummels and Gundogan.

He got a wage hike and Dortmund got rid of his €25m release clause.

I think they would for £70M. Doubtful any club would even go close to offering that amount though.

They'd sell for that amount as it'd help them strengthen the whole team, but it'd be beyond moronic to pay it. He isn't even the best striker in Germany.

So yeah, I agree that no one would come close to paying this much for him.

As do.ob says it was mutually beneficial; the player got a pay rise and the club will get 2-3x the transfer fee if he leaves. It's like De Gea signing a new 5 year deal last Summer, United are better off because we can demand a greater fee if he does decide to leave in the future and De Gea is better off because he's on a much higher wage.

It doesn't mean that either player is guaranteed to be at their current club next year.

Hopefully he joins Real Madrid and the De Gea speculation ends once and for all.

I was about to say that I can't see anyone paying 50 million for Courtois, but then I remembered PSG paying the same amoung for David Luiz.

2 window transfer ban, means Real aren't buying anyone!

Good Point! One of the most insane transfers ever. I still remember the day when some of Uniteds scout were told to look for a defender - and were given a video of David Luiz as exactly the kind of player they did NOT want. A few months later, Chelsea had signed him. Can't remember who told that story...possibly Bojan Djordjic

I thought they appealed and thus can now register players until the appeal is over?
Any idea how long the appeal lasts? Cause I thought that FIFA announced the ban earlier this year in good time so that any appeal was resolved before the summer meaning the they can't trick the system like Barca did.

I'm not sure tbh?

Dont mind madrid getting him for 50 million as long as degea stays here. Hope chelsea replace him with a shit keeper.

Their appeal will be heard prior to July 1st. I expect the ban to be upheld. They won't find many players who 'like sign for them & sit around for a year before being able to play.
