So judging by that, would you think the chelsea link is real, and he could well end up there?
It's really difficult to tell. I wouldn't rule out Chelsea with a manager he's really convinced of and some quality signings. My perception is of course subjective, although based on many interviews with him ever since he has joined Dortmund. Notably some of his opions have changed (slightly or more pronounced), others remained:
  • Hummels will never decide for the most financially lucrative deal. Money is important but doesn't make up for when he's not convinced about the rest of the package. He's also a great admirer of Gerrard because of his loyalty to Liverpool.
  • He demands to play an important role on and off the pitch. Not necessarily as captain, but he will speak up and challenge team mates, coach/manager, tactics, transfers when he's not convinced. If a club or a coach/manager can't handle that, chances he'll decide to join them are lower. (Therefore I was sure he wouldn't join United under LvG.)
  • He's eager to play with top quality players. Note that I purposefully avoid labels like world-class.
  • He's not immune to the appeal of clubs with history but I'm under the impression it's gotten less important for him.
  • He considers just a few number of clubs in Europe as an upgrade to Dortmund.
The only club I'm positive he would join in an instant is Barcelona. And I would rule out he moves to Liverpool (because of Klopp), Juventus and PSG (don't think he's interested in Serie A or Ligue 1) and Bayern (out of loyalty to his father). Real Madrid, United, Arsenal, City - similar situation to Chelsea.

I wouldn't rule out that if he's not convinced by any offer, he either sees out his contract or does a Gündogan and waits for summer 2017.

Him and klopp not get on then?

Him and klopp not get on then?
They did get along but Hummels openly expressed his dissatisfaction about Klopp's (limited) tactics and transfers while Klopp was still at the helm and Dortmund had regained form. Therefore I don't think he'll join a team led by Klopp in the near future.

hummels enjoys our new team so much, my feelings are he isnt going to leave.
also where he would go?
you can rule out chelsea and shit like this, cause they wont play cl.

if he leaves, he will only go to barca or something like this.

Seems like someone at United might finally have pulled their head from their arse.

I don't doubt Arsenal's interest but it's hard to take somebody's article serious though who describes Mkhitaryan as 'clinical'. He's IMHO our best player this season and scored reasonably but not at all 'clinically' and never has before.

For those who believe di Marzio:

Paying 45m for another #10 makes zero sense but that's what we come to expect of our club now so that wouldn't even surprise me.

One of your #10s may leave.

Replacing Mata for Barkley would give us much needed energy in the team. But £45m really (English tax and hype) Id rather go the extra £20m and try and get Pogba or Verati or even try temp Spurs into parting with Kane or Alli or try and get Lukaku rather than Barkley. But if we ended up with Barkley I don't think most would moan and he'd turn out to be a good signing.

Sign Berabatov - don't know how to use him so it ends up being money wasted.
Sign Kagawa - don't know how to use him so it ends up being money wasted.
Sign Mata - don't know how to use him so it ends up being money wasted.
Sign Barkley....

Yes, but Barkley simply isn't good enough.
Possibly. The point I was trying to make was more that as much as scepticism towards Woodward/LvG is justified, they might not bring in another #10 but replace one for another.

Signing a lower profile striker like that (no idea about this particular player, just mean a striker of that profile) and focusing more of our resources on other attacking positions, chiefly RW but also CAM/#10/SS, would be much preferable to blowing our load on Lukaku imo. Would give us depth and options while still allowing Martial, and to a lesser extent, Rashford, to stake their claim as our future #9. Would prefer Zlatan on a "free" for 1-2 seasons even more though.

- Barkley is just 22. He gets better every season. People doubting his quality and potential need to have a word with themselves.

- Barkley is English. People under estimate the value of having a British core.

- We don't have a decent no.10 in the squad. Rooney is shot. Mata is shit. Januzaj has a bad attitude. Pereira is unproven. Hererra doesn't have enough weapons to be a 10.

Rather give him a shot than spunk 45m on Barkely. At least go and spend that 45m on a better no10 than Barkley. Only English players I would take right now are Ali and Kane and possibly (Butland/Forster) if we need to replace De Gea.

- 45m for Barkley is a fair price for his age and talent.
- He's much better than Mata.
- He's a completely different player to Pogba or Veratti. Neither of whom would be available for just 20m extra.
- Pogba is the most overrated player in the universe, and hopefully will never come back here for a big fee. Should stay as the big fish in the small pond that is Serie A.
- Kane is nothing like Barkley, so why constrast signings?
- Alli is currently unattainable.
- Plenty of people would moan about this signing. It's the Caf.
- Agree he would be a good buy.

Don't forget Di Maria in that

I thought Barkley was quite poor yesterday against us, although he was playing a deeper role than usual. Alli seems to have gone ahead of him this season though in terms of English "no.10's"
