He actually said :

"We were going to then bring in Rickie Lambert alongside him, but it ended up that we didnt get Sanchez, we just got Rickie.
"All of a sudden our only striker is Rickie Lambert. At 32 years of age going into the Champions League season that wasn't ideal."

Note the alongside him.

So Balotelli doesn't count

£8M? Tight feckers, I'm sure Soton paid £12M for him and they shouldn't sell for less.

They're after Long? Lolzers, desperate times for them. Are they planning on playing him at CB?

I can't believe we are getting this much for Naismith.

This poster will be devastated by this news and quietly baboon-baffled, absolutely astonished even, that an Everton supporter thinks he isn't worth 8 million.

Would be quietly happy with Naismith as a forward option (dunno if he'd come as he wants to leave Everton due to lack of starts) for the Solskjaer/Chicarito off the bench role. He is quite handy/committed.

Do you have enough depth to sell him?

Aye we should be alright. I imagine that we will make a couple more signings anyway. Byram being one and then another attacking player.

That's a good price for him but I'm surprised you're selling him, he always looks decent for you. Well, when I see him, maybe he isn't actually 'always' decent!

Bit of a shit move for him though, Norwich, eurgh.

He's done well for you though, hasn't he?

Don't get me wrong, i really like him as a bloke and as a player he plays miles ahead of his ability at times but apart from the Chelsea game this season he's not performed well in the games he's came on or started (albeit limited). At 29 though this kind of fee is a no brainer as we won't get anymore for him at this stage of his career. Got him on a free too from Rangers so getting maximum profit.

To put things in perspective, we sold Nani, van Persie, Rafael and Chicharito all for lesser amounts.
We have almost always sold players for peanuts. Other teams manage to sell players they dont want at very high prices.

Indeed, sounds like a no brainer for you guys you're right.

Genuinely forgot over the past week that there was a transfer window open. Heading towards being the boring January window ever at this rate

Imo he is a decent defender but nowhere close to what they need

Sounds like Gary Cahill all over again, a mediocre defender plucked, for some reason, from a mid table club for buttons suddenly finds himself playing for England because his defensive partner happens to be rather good (Terry) and makes him look good, but ultimately gets found out as the mid-table defender that he always was.

Except that Dan's defensive partner is unlikely to be good enough to make him look good.
