Is anyone worried that we are halfway past the transfer window and we have done nothing.
Van Gaal said we probably won't sign anyone in January, stating that he rarely does and didn't last season (forgetting about Valdes). That probably means that we won't sign anyone this window.

It's actually very sensible to not sign anybody if your targets are unavailable and the attainable alternatives are not good enough. However, given the amount of games and no winter break, it's questionable why LvG went into the season with this squad.

Spot on I think he's been caught out big time with this.

We shouldn't really be looking to sign anyone as it stinks of a crisis or bad planning.
There's 17 games left in the league...16 after today so who can we get to turn the world around in that amount of games?

Summer is the time to sign and the early summer. We should be offering now for early summer deals.

Targets not being available is always one of those get out excuses though, they could be genuinely unavailable or the club could just be ineffective in identifying and acquiring targets.

As for it being sensible, I'd argue it's only sensible if the need and risk is low. As it is if any signing will reduce the risk of us missing out on the top 4 then it has to be taken even at a premium.

It can be taken as an excuse, not denying that, but it's a very possibility that a player turns a club's offer down, or the player would accept but the club doesn't. Or both parties say no, of course.

I'm also not denying that it would be of advantage to have a few fall-back options, preferably attainable ones. But if all targets, not matter where they range on the list, are not available, I don't find it sensible to sign players which wouldn't add anything to the club than just another pay cheque.

This is Manchester United and Ed Woodward. The press have come up with some sensible options at reasonable prices. Knowing Ed he has been trying to batter Real's and Bayern's door down. Not entirely sure Ed does sensible anymore.

:D I hear you and understand the scepticism regarding Ed. However, I strongly doubt that the press has any clue who's actually available this January. The overwhelming majority of their posts appears to be invented or regurgitated stuff from previous windows. Indykaila can hardly do worse.

Apart from the fact that there are 2 weeks of the transfer window left, if I was a United fan, I wouldn't criticize LvG or Ed for this window but for last summer. It's sheer madness to go into such a demanding season with such a squad.

Slimani sounds like a pair of knock off Armani jeans you might find for sale in a back alley along with some pirated DVDs like Finding Neno, Terminator 8 and Carribean Pirates.

We could do with even a half decent striker/winger though. On a lot of occasions we've been caught out with no one to bring on up front for Martial/Rooney.
